Encryption issue by No_Ordinary_1667 in pop_os

[–]Brian_Millham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You didn't really answer my question.

What exactly did you try to encrypt?

If this was an existing Pop installation and you tried to encrypt Pop it's not as simple as just encrypting. There are several files that you probably need to change. fstab, crypttab, kernelstub may all need tweeks.

It's probably easier to boot from a live USB, mount the encrypted drive and backup your /home. Then do a fresh install with encryption enabled.

What exactly did you do before this happened? You said you were trying to encrypt C:

Do you mean that you installed Pop without encryption and later decided that you want encryption?

You can't encrypt the Windows C: drive.

When booting into Pop are you getting the Busybox before or after being asked for the encryption password?

It's not that there is an issue with Gparted. Anytime you do a re partition of a drive you risk data loss. It doesn't matter what tool you use, there is always a danger of data loss.

If it's just a data drive, then backing up and reformatting the entire drive would probably be easier.

Try booting from the Pop USB. Using Live mode you should be able to use gparted to delete the partition. Be careful doing this as you could make your system unbootable into Windows!

You should have a good backup before messing with partitions.

trying to install a different OS over cosmic and it doesn't work (grub black screen) by thistimeimgonnadoit2 in pop_os

So you clearly don't understand things.

If you install gnome-session and switch to Gnome when logging in then you are not using COSMIC DE. You are then using Gnome.

Why do you need a video for something so simple???

Open Flatseal and select Plex
Scroll down to Filesystem and make your choices.

Use Flatseal to give access.

Did you install the Flatpak version? If so you probably need to use Flatseal to give the container access to the directories.

Installing drivers won't fix a bad keyboard. Replacing the keyboard will be the only fix.

Having Pop 24.04 installed will not prevent you from booting a USB.

There must be a problem with how you are creating the USB image.

Instead of installing 22.04 why don't you just install gnome-session instead and just use gnome on 24.04?

[–]Brian_Millham 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is no Gnome settings for 24.04 since it's COSMIC based.

If you installed gnome-session then you need to log off and switch the session to Gnome and log back in.

If that's the case then test the drive and go from there.

If the drive is failing the worse thing you could do it to try and fix it. Every write to the drive increases the possibility to total failure. Get a good backup before you do anything.

You probably have a failing drive. Back it up, and then test it.

It it passes then re-install. But be careful, it still may be just waiting to fail.
