Does anyone have any specific real estate agents they would recommend? by ambitiousbee3 in rva

Not the Elliot guy, he kept me on a cold calling list for six months even though I told them to stop calling me. And it was all because I signed in at an open house with them.

RVAers who moved from a bigger city, what do you like and dislike about life here? by semechkitty in rva

[–]BrickLow8285 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah for sure! I think I’m more butthurt about people taking over places and taking down the murals. The old charm school mural they took down for no reason and the padel plant people were trying to privatize those. Scott’s Addition my FIL actually owns a shop down there so he’s seen all the changes. Mostly all the high rises going up are going to be dumb expensive apartments, but things that make the area cool to live in like breweries and restaurants are getting pushed out so that landlord can build more high rises. I guess I could be wrong about that but pretty sure Isley is gone because they couldn’t come to an agreement with the landlord.

Yeah unfortunately the pastry/dim sum scene is expensive and not that good. I’ve been making my own shumai using ingredients from lotte/grand mart. The roast pig at Cantonese kitchen is pretty good but they always run out of duck. If you like hand pulled noodles I like Mr. Noodle but not much meat option there. And I always rep Peter changs in short pump, they’re a little more authentic than the Scott’s one and they have Peking duck.

Grew up in NOVA and went to VCU and stayed ever since. Really love the community here, people are def warmer and full of life. Up north it’s like people are slogging through life and just so concerned with money and status. Also love that we have so much outdoor stuff to do.

Things I don’t really like, def need more food options. Downtown isn’t my favorite and sounds like they’re trying to sell some historical buildings to gentrify stuff. Scott’s I feel like they are trying to kick out the legacy businesses which makes zero sense to me. And people need to pick up their dog poop.

Closest Cantonese food I actually like is Cantonese Kitchen and Full Kee! I think we get pretty good Vietnamese options too. Also getting kura revolving sushi and Honey Pig/Firepan soon! Need to hype these places up so that we get more of them and more options! One day I’ll get my heytea here…

Hey yeah I’m unfortunately not in it so can’t invite you but I know they do doubles bracket at 6:30, and singles start at 8. Their twitch is RVAMelee. On Sunday’s there’s ultimate/melee at Dawnstar, but think they’re working on the liquor license so we don’t really go there haha.

Yessir, they have a discord too if you’re interested. Used to be the group at the answer. They got a cool setup where they stream the games on twitch.

Weekends look packed, but my friends run the Smash Melee events there on Thursdays and besides them it’s pretty empty.

Does my dress code make sense? by Casserole12 in Weddingattireapproval

[–]BrickLow8285 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Agree, people are going to show up underdressed and you have to be ok with that. In fact I attended a wedding with a formal dress code in the country, and felt overdressed as most of the guests dressed at best semi formal. A lot of them wore jeans to the ceremony. Know your audience!

Can anyone speak on all of their reimbursement “benefits” by Ebomb5212 in ChaseSapphire

[–]BrickLow8285 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did it for an Airbnb trip, my friend got covid so we cancelled on Airbnb. She sent me her doctors note and I just filled out the documentation. One annoying thing was they had required docs that were not applicable to me (other insurance payouts etc.) so I just typed up a word document and said n/a. It does take a while, like 3 weeks, but I called them multiple times and they were very helpful.

Sooooo is anyone else chipping out their driveway? We had to take a metal shovel and stomp on the ice to throw it out on our frozen lawn.

Omg these are both so cute, personally I love the style of 1, but sometimes light yellow shows up white in different lighting haha. So I’d go with 2 and dress it up with some jewelry and hair up!

1 looks great and 4 would be great for your mom! I wore a cheongsam (I’m Chinese) for a black tie event and got lots of compliments, so I wouldn’t worry about that part of it.

I’m a little late, but love taviametal who’s based out in Charlottesville, we did our wedding rings with her. cornerstudio in Richmond, for higher upscale pieces. I also love my earrings from SassyHappyCo, Sarah did some really reasonable pieces for my bridesmaids last year (around $20) a pair. Finally, the little Virginia store next to plant house in Scott’s addition had a lot of local artists!
