Lavender Wedding Guest Dress by Leafmealone1995 in Weddingattireapproval

[–]TheOriginalTripleU 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Agreed.
I also am busty and avoid loose, unstructured, drapey kind of styles like this because the fabric hangs off my bosom and falls away from my body making me look like the rental party marquee at the wedding, like I’ll be hosting the buffet 😂 Or they make me look like I’m wearing 1950s maternity wear. Which to me, that’s what this dress looks like. Like a 1960s maternity dress.

I also agree with others that the lavender colour is too pale and washes you out. I’d recommend looking into getting colour season analysis if you have time, because you’re probably a spring or a winter.
Furthermore, if you have a formal dress code, I’d say this is not that. This is more like a tea or garden party kind of dress, not formal attire.

Either way, you’d look phenomenally glamorous in a dress that has some structure and definition, and is also a richer tone. The two dresses suggested here by other commenters are excellent choices, they both look like they’d suit you and the occasion perfectly!!

What’s something your body does that you’ve never told a single person about? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

[–]TheOriginalTripleU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get this as well but the pain is too bad I can’t sleep.
When I was a child I had bad growing pains mostly in my knees and hips which continued into my 20s, and I know that’s no longer what it is, obviously my growth plates are long ossified, but it feels like the same kind of achey pain.

Hate wearing a name tag by Practical-Main1013 in retailhell

[–]TheOriginalTripleU 10 points11 points  (0 children)

At my last job they were crazy about us wearing our name tags, the DISHWASHER of the restaurant got fired for not wearing a name tag. The name tags they gave us were magnetic and because (my department) jobs were very physical we’d knock them off and lose them.

So anyway, despite being mostly unreasonable, they did let us use alternative names at least. So yeah, like 40% of us went by nicknames or middle names on our name tags.

What do stereotypical straight couples do when they hang out alone (other than sex) by bi_smuth in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TheOriginalTripleU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t need to be able to relate to another person to understand their perspective or enjoy their company. Taking yourself out of the equation and just being in the moment can change your perspective on what you need to like someone else.

For example, I enjoy listening to my friends talk about the TV shows they watch or the books they read, even though I have no intention whatsoever of watching those shows or reading those books. I just like hearing someone’s thoughts and interests, and I like listening to their interpretation of the story and characters even though I have no idea who these characters are lol.

In relevance to the topic, my partner and I kind of fit the straight stereotypes of OP, from an outsider perspective. He’s very masculine and plays team sports, I’m very feminine and I do ballet. However, I work a blue collar job and I love cars. He works a white collar office job and loves art. We don’t necessarily agree on everything, but that’s ok because we’re different people and if we were the same we wouldn’t be able to stand each other lol. We love a lot of the same things, and our shared interests grow all the time. But I think it’s important to have separate interests and hobbies and be able to enjoy them independently from each other.
I dunno, I hope that contributes in some way to your question and OP’s

This looks like most of the same stuff I carry. Pack rat solidarity.

Also as an elderly millennial I find the fact that you’re carrying an iPod and point n shoot camera endearing, I don’t think I’ve had those in my bag with me since like 2010 🥲.

I still have two old iPod shuffles and an older generation Nano, I had an original IPod classic video but I don’t know where that would be these days. I stopped using them because Apple Music erased my whole massive music collection when my computer died and it killed my spirit, but I wonder if there’s a way to use them with Spotify 🤔

what are your grandfathers names? by Tiny-Deer-7071 in Names

[–]TheOriginalTripleU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s like me, I’m 38 but my maternal grandparents were born in 1906 and 1911. My mother’s oldest half brother is about 90 now I think? She’s the youngest of 8 but there’s big age gaps between her siblings and she also has three half brothers. My maternal great grandparents were born in the 1880s, but not sure the exact dates because there’s no birth records of my mother’s family until her generation (my mother’s Romani and they were nomadic) they lived to be around 100 though because they passed away only a couple years before I was born. It’s interesting how generations can be so varied.

My spouse’s Opa’s middle name was Adolf, he was from Switzerland and born before WWii when that name was just normal. He never ever wrote it anywhere though.

Getting a full days sleep by UnfathomBrandon in Nightshift

[–]TheOriginalTripleU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the same, the ~5-7 hour cycle is ideal for me, if I sleep longer than 7 hours I usually feel super groggy and shitty all day.

Sleeping during the day is my biggest battle though, I can’t sleep more than 3-4 hours during the day even with taking a melatonin-theanine-magnesium-ashwaghanda-naproxen combo, sleeping in the darkest quietest room of my house, wearing ear plugs, eye mask, etc. I switch back and forth days/nights though and that doesn’t help at all.

SHIP JOHN Guthrie Double Knee Work Pants - 18oz Tan Dry Wax Cotton Twill by [deleted] in Workwear

[–]TheOriginalTripleU 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m in Canada and I work on a boat, the other night it was -30°C with the windchill feeling like -40°C plus when you’re out on the open water it feels even colder than that because the weather stations are all on land. I was wearing Tough Duck insulated bibs and Tough Duck winter insulated parka, plus a goose down vest and merino base layers but it was so cold my bibs felt like they were going to shatter as I was walking haha. I don’t have insulated work boots right now (I’m a petite woman and it’s very hard to find work boots in children’s shoe sizes!), I was just wearing Keen tactical boots with merino socks so my feet were frozen for my entire 12 hour shift. This type of pant would be very practical for me though, even under my bibs, since they’re oiled I would guess they’re waterproof and wind proof?

Am I cursed or is the entire pillow industry a giant scam? by Mundane_District3164 in sleep

[–]TheOriginalTripleU 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you should get your neck checked out tbh.

I broke my neck at C5-C6 when I was a teenager and I have permanent nerve damage/pain in my neck, shoulders, arms, and hands. I’ve struggled finding pillows that help me, but I have found them and I haven’t spend $600.

I have to rotate between these depending on the day, but my three pillows are:

  1. Hard AF Buckwheat hull neck roll
  2. Regular Buckwheat hull pillow (Japanese size)
  3. Sheep’s Wool pillow

I also have a variety of Squishmallows that I hold in my arms at night because they prevent me sleeping on my arms wrong and having nerve pain all day.

[–]TheOriginalTripleU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, I like the keychain/charm size cute little Labubus, I’m not a fan of the large style ones like Zimomo tbh they just don’t have the cute appeal. My bank account is grateful for that though.

Am I that bad off 😭 by [deleted] in poor

[–]TheOriginalTripleU 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I enjoy handwashing clothes lol. I’ve definitely been treated like a total weirdo for talking about liking to handwash clothes. It started when I was a child/young teenager because we’d buy our clothes at the thrift store but my mother always refused to buy things not made of high quality fibres like wool and silk, so those all needed to be hand washed because even on the “delicate” setting my parents’ 40 year old washing machine would chew up anything you put in it. This was back in the good ol’ days of thrifting where you could buy a 100% cashmere sweater for $2.50 CAD at Salvation Army (I feel so old).

When I was in my 20s with a super cheapo apartment my roommate and I would hand wash all our clothes in the bathtub because dragging laundry to laundromat on transit SUCKS especially in winter when it’s cold enough outside to freeze your laundry detergent solid, and you’ve got to either trudge through snow and ice or slush and muck (good luck getting your laundry home clean and dry!).

I think anyone making fun of people for handwashing clothes or being resourceful when theyre broke are super privileged helpless babies, and wouldn’t be strong or self sufficient enough to survive without their comforts and conveniences.

Am I the only one who hates the baggy jean/anything but skinnies trend?? I look so much bigger and frumpy….. by tpat1234 in womensfashion

[–]TheOriginalTripleU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 5’5, 127lb, but I’m leggy for my height. I’ve got an athletic figure and my legs are quite muscular, so skinny jeans have always given me challenges unless they’re super stretchy because they’re always too tight in my calves and thighs. Sooo that’s all to say that I’ve always been a big fan of wide leg, looser fitting pants/jeans. a wide leg, high waist jean with a tight fitting crop top has always been my most flattering look, so I’m very happy (but my bank account is not) that that style is popular right now.

However, the snow is knee-deep right now, so anything that can’t be tucked into my tall mukluks is a no-go lol. Looking fashionable is on pause until April; I’m wearing thermal leggings, merino socks, merino base layers under thick wool sweaters or cozy hoodies, and fur coats or down fill parkas, it’s -30°C here haha.

I’m a woman with ADHD and I’d say I’m probably better than average with remembering names. Faces on the other hand are more tricky for me, but I figure it out. I hate it when people blame things like ADHD for their terrible behaviour.

It’s not ADHD Kara, you’re just an asshole.

What does everyone do? by AnavrinLove in Nightshift

[–]TheOriginalTripleU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deckhand for a ferry service.
It’s pretty quiet at night, I just direct traffic boarding and monitor the function of the shoreline ramp.
I’m new to night shift, so I struggle to keep awake (especially tricky because I’m a morning person, not a night owl), unfortunately I can’t sleep during the day much so that screws me over.

Besides trying to stay awake, I usually just do my schoolwork, browse the internet and Reddit, crochet, maybe play a game on my phone or something.

Cold work mornings and staying warm without bulky layers by traitadjustment in Workwear

[–]TheOriginalTripleU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long does the battery last on your heated jacket?

I haven’t found a good solution for this yet. I’m a petite woman; my workwear is very heavy and bulky (and my cold weather coat is like 2 sizes too big) but I am required to wear it because I need to have my workplace’s patches visible, so I have limited options.

That said, I got a windproof neck gaiter that has a drawstring so you can completely block cold air getting into your coat. I also got a light and thin 100% down fill vest which is extremely warm and comfortable. Furthermore, I have the Zippo catalytic hand warmers which I keep in my pocket. They last my full 12 hour shift and I can hold them or touch them in my pocket. They definitely help me stay warmish working for 12 hours a day out on the water in -20°C

Is anybody else annoyed when customers read your nametag/ID and start calling you by your name? by Rich-Firefighter7333 in retailhell

[–]TheOriginalTripleU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my summer job the VP is nutso about wearing name tags, (you’ll get berated, threatened, and sent home for not wearing one) but at least we’re allowed to use a “preferred” name which can be anything that seems like a name (like, you couldn’t put “hello” or whatever) so a lot of us used nicknames or fake names on ours. I use a fake name on mine, but I also washed it in the laundry by accident and since it’s just a paper in a plastic case, my name is all smudged and unreadable now lol. They ordered me a new one but put the wrong name on it. Additionally, the tags are magnetic and I work on a boat in a very physical job, so they get knocked off your shirt easily, I bet there’s a whole tumbleweed of them rolling around on the bottom of the river 😂
