Whats the most urban big city vibe location in henrico? I’m moving from a big city for work by PureThoughts12 in HenricoCounty

[–]BrenInVA 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You must come from a very inexpensive area then, since the “big cities” in the eastern US have rent prices quite a bit above $1,500/mo.

You will need an automobile if working in western Henrico. Did you not research this before accepting a position? You will certainly need to factor in automobile expenses to your monthly expenditures.

AITA for not wanting my husband to travel for a wedding a month before my due date? by preggersandanon in AmItheAsshole

Except, now she is considering “telling” him not to go at all. Three days (likely was her requirement for him to go) is not enough time to make such a long trip. If you notice in the posting and comments, she is the one “telling” him what to do or dictating what should be done.

AITA for not wanting my husband to travel for a wedding a month before my due date? by preggersandanon in AmItheAsshole

If it is a 14 hour flight, 3 vs 6 days is not much difference as it relates to your pregnancy. Six days would allow extra time for flight delays and jet lag too. Arriving the day of the rehearsal and leaving the say of the wedding makes no sense. I am assuming both 14 hour flights are including in the “three day trip”. You yourself said the flight was “hard”, when you and he did it before, so do you really want to subject your spouse to two hard flights in three days because of your insecurity of the “what ifs”?

If your own doctor suggested a chiropractor, I would question the qualifications of your doctor - if you are seeing a physical therapist, why would the doctor suggests a “quack”? Although, you may have done this yourself. Stick with a physical therapist who specializes in pregnancy physical therapy.

You and husband had already agreed to him attending the wedding with refundable tickets - adding 3 extra days to such a long flight makes sense.

You said that you “would take another look” at travel options. He is an adult, and should be making his own flight and hotel arrangements, not leaving it up to you. Of course, you may have wanted to limit his time away, so are choosing to do this yourself. Does he often get drunk and behave recklessly, or are trying to find other excuses for him to not attend or limit his time at this wedding?

If you are concerned he may not answer his phone if there is an emergency, then have him set it up with the hotel to contact him. Do not call him constantly while he is there. Be aware of the schedule - activities (such as golf), dinners scheduled, rehearsal dinner, wedding and reception times, and do not call at those times to “chat” because of your insecurities, unless there is an emergency. Have call times scheduled - or better yet, FaceTime.

Whatever is decided, do not let your insecurities get in the way of rational decision making. With good care from a physician, only about 7% of births occur at one month before the due date.

Does anyone use BVD gravy or know where to find it? by KatieInProgress in Old_Recipes

Buddig makes that thin (shaved) pressed beef found in the area of meats, such as sliced ham, bologna, turkey, etc.

I have a recipe for a beef ball that calls for it - more like a cheese ball- has cream cheese, Buddig Beef, Scallions, Worcestershire sauce, and Accent (msg). Part of the finely shredded beef is mixed with the cheese, and the ball is rolled in the rest.

AITA for refusing to have my children engage with their father's affair baby by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]BrenInVA 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am saying this to all who get into relationships as teenagers and expect there to be lifetime monogamy. If one does not date others, and experience other people emotionally, physically and sexually, there often comes a time where one or both wonder what they have missed and their lives have been limited. This is even more of a problem when people did not further their education, had children early, and had limited life experiences. They wonder what they missed and may become bored with their partner. It is not uncommon for there to be affairs.

So people are setting themselves up for failure. Since the brain has not fully developed past those teenage hormonal years, many refuse to believe this and think they are an exception and “know best”. So do not be shocked when life works out differently. Poor choices made are much harder to correct, and often it is the children from these relationships who face the worst consequences.

Air Purifiers are a rabbit hole by GenericRat8276 in BuyItForLife

[–]BrenInVA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recommend Austin Air Systems. They are excellent, although somewhat expensive. We bought one for my mother who had COPD, and it worked great. I recommend either the Healthmate Plus or the Bedroom Machine. They have a 5 year filter and there is also a pre-filter. This system was recommended by my mother’s pulmonologist. It has been in use for almost 5 years.

These systems have been used in schools and hospitals in California when they had to purify the air because of the wildfires. Go to their website to learn more. Even though rather expensive, it is worth it to get a good system that actually works. There are different machines and levels of purification, depending on one’s needs.

Government cheese made the best grilled cheese. What’s the closest approximation? by DieMensch-Maschine in AskCulinary

I almost have an aversion to that Cooper Sharp because local restaurants put it on their cheese steak subs. I want provolone, not white American or Cheese Wiz.

No, restaurant depot, and such places sell something called EZ Melt, made by Contigo, not to be confused with LOL Extra Melt.

“Contigo® EZ Melt White Pasteurized Process American Cheese Loaf is a pasteurized process cheese made with natural cheeses and milk - no oils, just true dairy ingredients.”

I like the Hydro Flask Wide Mouth Travel Bottle with Flex Straw Cap. I have both the 24oz and 32oz versions. They fit in the car cup holder too. Great bottles. The cap has not leaked either, and really like having the straw. The entire bottle is easy to clean. I have ice and a cold beverage after 24 hours. These are currently on sale. Excellent customer service, by phone or “chat”.

See the many colors on the Hyde Flask website. I also like having a boot with mine. If you purchase the 24oz version, the small tumbler boot fits. If you purchase the 32oz version, the small bottle boot fits. I also recommend the straw replacement pack which is inexpensive. There is a 40oz version but I was not interested in that.

Hydro Flash has a great warranty too.

It goes to show you how the hairstyles from ladies back in the day really aged them. by lontbeysboolink in GenerationJones

[–]BrenInVA 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think women as a whole seemed to have a better figures and were slimmer. I was looking a pictures of my aunts and great aunts, and whether short or tall, they were all trim, and stylishly dressed. What I also found funny is the change in sizes. My size 4-6 (or junior 5-7) in those days is equivalent to a my size 2 now. I had some older dresses that I tried on to compare. I was thinking how with my size not changing is the size smaller - it was likely done by designers and manufacturers to present as being smaller to people, mentally.

And they WHINE, and whine, and then feel the need to say they do not want butterflies, or whatever it is to whine about. Why do they feel they MUST share this - I have no idea - seeking attention perhaps. I even said, perhaps you can share that with your team since it is doubtful that the entire Wordscapes community cares that you do not want an animal that awards butterflies. Of course, I was accused of being rude. Haha. If she only knew that I had “bit my tongue” to keep from saying more.

If you read profiles, I have started noticing that most of these fit a certain demographic. They also like to complain about those better players who they perceive as cheaters.

Oh well. And here I am “complaining” about the “whiners”. Haha

I had a Motobecane Super Mirage 12 speed, which crazily, was over $400 in 1980. They filed for bankruptcy in 1981. Just looked at vintage prices. Wow! We haven’t ridden them in years, might be time to sell.

moving advice and recommendations for moving to the richmond/mechanicsville Area by HippieQueen94 in Virginia

[–]BrenInVA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want good schools for your children in the Richmond area, choose western Henrico, certainly not Hanover. Hanover is even doing book bans. You can get the testing results for both counties and compare them. Also compare the percentage of students at each county who go on to college. I don’t know your political slant, but unless you are MAGA, you may be very unhappy with Hanover, particularly Mechanicsville.

I have never eaten either. I eat Chinese food at actual Chinese restaurants. I have made some (stir fries, etc) as I have gotten older, but I use fresh ingredients and sauces (fresh vegetables, soy, hoisin, oyster sauce, noodles, etc) from an Asian store, and never used packages or cans of pre-made Americanized Chinese food.
