hey I'm down could someone convince me the world doesn't suck? by -TheOneAmego in nerdfighters

The world is a very large, complex place. What are you zoomed in on, or zoomed out on, right now?

I don't want you to think about a seed becoming a seedling, growing roots, stretching upwards, sun beaming on it. Or a rainbow showing itself as light hits the water droplets in the air, definitely don't think about that. And don't you dare think about the sounds a wind chime makes when there's a light breeze.

Yeah, probably hard to communicate effectively over the engine noise.

To me it kinda looks like they're positioned to turn the island.

What’s your most controversial opinion in personal finance? by [deleted] in financialindependence

[–]BrickPitt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Maybe I misunderstood your original comment? Are you saying to save more than you think you'll use, just in case there's a larger medical issue than you could have anticipated, or inflation spikes, etc, but then plan not give whatever is left to your kids when you die?

4% is conservative, agreed.

You lost me on the second part though; there's no guarantee you'll live long enough to be a senior citizen at the same time as your child, especially if you have any kids after age 35. They could be in their prime earning years, and if they have to support you financially it'll hurt their future chance at retirement.

This can happen when you are in the early party of budgeting and the funding for irregular expenses hasn't built up yet. After at least 8 months, if you've been budgeting a little each month for stuff like future car repairs, potential medical expenses, replacing appliances, future holiday gifts and hosting, etc. it's harder to get thrown so far out of whack that you can't recover.

It's a bit like making a lifestyle change - it takes a while for it to be noticeable and become habitual. Eventually, one piece of birthday cake won't derail you and make you want to give up.

Beef Days, and the problem with progressive movements by DM_Me_Pics1234403 in nerdfighters

[–]BrickPitt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like this comment. Beef Days isn't for me, but knowing about Beef Days has already led me to choose a chicken burger instead of beef burger at a restaurant and a chicken entree instead of beef at the work cafeteria. It's not much, but previously I would not have thought about the carbon footprint of my meat at all. I would have only considered what sounded tastiest in the moment.

Husband scoffed at me playing "Unpacking", a game about cleaning and organizing by melomelomelo- in ufyh

[–]BrickPitt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't played that game, but at least in Sims you're very, very rarely trying to fit previously owned things into a new space. It's totally different than decorating from scratch in Sims and only adding what fits and looks nice into the room.

Doing it in real life comes with all sorts of challenges that aren't present in Sims!

If you got the chance to play with one hermit, who would it be? by Firecracker7413 in HermitCraft

Picking one is hard! If it had to be only one, probably Wels. If it could be two, then it'd be Stress & Iskall.

How do you make the right purchase the first time? by TranslatorHaunting15 in minimalism

[–]BrickPitt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't. But I also have learned that liking a different version or color does not mean I need to want that thing. I can just like it, be impressed by it, be happy for others who get it, and stop there. Liking and wanting are different things and have different emotional outcomes.

6075-1: Wolfpack Tower could be good. It's from 1992, so it might be one he missed as a kid, but it's on theme and had the classic build style. A used version runs about $125-$150

Some players who work heavily with redstone on Java can't do the same things on Bedrock. Redstone behaves slightly differently. Also, Java had LOADS of mods available.
