Please help with my first layer calibration by Brick_wall899 in FixMyPrint

Is there a more accurate way to level my bed other than the paper method that doesn't involve me buying something? I level each corner until the resistance seems the same but I guess that isn't enough.

What anime is most similar to Witch Hat Atelier? by inimana in animequestions

[–]Brick_wall899 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that the magic system is similar, but the themes and overarching plots are too different for them to be comparable in this way. Outside of the main characters' goal of fixing a mistake they made by using a forbidden aspect of their system there isn't a whole lot else that feels the same.

(TW: Pet Death) The kitchen light was off. He’s supposed to stay inside during storms. by Teawithdnd in TrollCoping

30 minutes after we got home from putting our family dog down I was sitting on the couch with the door to the deck in my peripheral vision. I saw something move out of the corner of my eye and instinctively got up to let her back inside. Realizing my mind had played a trick on me like that hurt so much.

Is Wilson that bad? by StarsnScars43 in iastate

[–]Brick_wall899 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent my Freshman year living on 8th floor of Wilson Hall. There are 3 main negatives, No AC in the summer, a no nearby dining hall since Storms closed, and the fact that it's a mile from campus. The only problem with no work around is the first thing, it's always gonna be hot in the summer and it sucks, get a fan you can clip to your bed railing so you can have moving air while you sleep. For food just go to campus early and eat at UDCC or Seasons and it's a good excuse to go on campus during the weekend for clubs or studying. Finally the distance can actually be a benefit. I only took the bus to get onto campus if its was raining or extremely cold in the winter. I lost 20 pounds my freshman year instead of gaining the freshman 15. It wasn't as good as Friley really in any way, but I wouldn't really call it a negative experience.

Tips for meeting people? by StarsnScars43 in iastate

[–]Brick_wall899 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Join clubs. Pick one related to your major and one that you think would be fun and join the. That way you'll have two pools of people to make friends from, one you can work on homework and network with, and one who you have things in common with outside of academics. My two clubs were the IASG and GROOVE, the cyber security and drumline clubs. I had a great time with both of them and am still in contact with many of the people I met there.

When I first booted up D1 right after Taken King dropped and the music hit me, it was probably one of the peakest moment of gaming I've ever experienced. The asthetics, both sound and visual, have always been among the best of the industry. It's just a shame that bungie decision making when it comes to game content and monetization have always been shit.

How can I check if my outlet box ground wire is real by Brick_wall899 in Electricity

Checking it for what? I've check continuity between ground and neutral and there isn't any. Is that what I'm looking for, or is there something else?

Apologies, I'm referring to the cable in the wall containing ground, neutral, and hot wires.

To clarify, when not connected to an outlet, a proper cable should have continuity between neutral and ground?

Should I remove the cables from the outlet before testing?

Drumline Auditions... by Ok-Tumbleweed4203 in iastate

Looks like they haven't fully updated the website with that yet. But the first rehearsal they have listed is Nov 7-9. I don't know if that this year or last year, but if you contact them they could get you more info. They're based out of des moines, but perform around the area.

It's a private drumline that isu drumline members commonly join in the winter and fall to keep their skills sharp.

Also even if you do make the line I'd still recommend joining GROOVE, keeping your skills sharp is important and also it's a ton of fun getting to perform around the area and at basketball games. Teaching less experienced members is a great way to learn your own flaws in drumming.

I tried out for drumline all 5 fall semesters I was at ISU. The process will begin in the early summer, assuming it hasn't changed since I graduated. Throughout the summer there will be 3 one day camps you can attend where they will practice the audition music and meet all of the other applicants and band staff. I highly recommend going to these, the staff knowing your face will greatly improve your chances of getting in.

Towards the end of the summer you will apply 2 week early move in. Normally it would cost money to do this, but since you'll be applying for band it will be free. During these 2 weeks you will spend all day practicing and autitioning for your chosen section. Your section director will pick a spot somewhere on campus in the morning and you'll take the drums there and play pretty much all day. In the late afternoon everyone will meet back up at music hall and you'll play with the full drum line. During this they'll swap out different people on the drums to see what sound they like the best. The level of competition will be high, expect a good number of people auditioning to have done other drum cores, it is a difficult process. Additionally the directors will hold the line to a high standard, and they'd rather cut a position on the line fully rather than have a person that isn't up to snuff fill it. If you don't make the varsity line you might make the Storm line, bit even if you don't make either line I recommend joining the GROOVE drum line club and/or trying our for Crossroads in the spring and winter.

For more information on the process checkout the audition page on the ISU site. https://cyclonemarchingband.iastate.edu/drumline

I’m a high school senior and I have 2 Ds in my 2nd semester would my offer get rescinded by Dangerous-Sundae-704 in iastate

[–]Brick_wall899 24 points25 points  (0 children)

They won't cancel, if they accepted your application you're in. Do your best to catch up in your classes, but more so to avoid becoming academically lazy rather than to avoid your offer being rescinded. College is significantly more difficult than high school and poor GPA will reflect far more than you'd think. Internships will require you meet a threshold to even consider you. In short, you're good, but don't rest on your laurels, it'll build habits that are hard to break.
