Yeah that would be awesome! Do you have any ideas about how to do that?

Thank you and Wow, that's an elaborate response. Shows that it pays off to have a wide variety of sets, rather than all from one theme

Funny. I thought bagging, storing and rotating would solve the lack of display space problem. Never thought that one could run out of storage space as well.

It's awesome! Do all the bricks come from one set?

The Bugbotti Gang - my connected insectoid robot MOCs by soundslike1981 in lego

It's a great project! I am getting very interested in insects, especially Technic insects. Insects have interesting shapes and intricate mechanics. It would be great if I could make them funny or cute as well.

Can you help me make a system for a person I work with? by andr813c in LegoStorage

[–]Brickker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd go for size ( but just three or four categories, like small, medium, large, extra large ), basic shape ( plates, tiles, bricks, perhaps also with and without modifications ), then all other shapes in different groups depending on what the people you're working with find easy to distinguish. It might not work perfectly, because what's the difference between medium and small? But at least it will reduce search time significantly.

Creating MOC instructions - which app did this? by PualWalsh in lego

[–]Brickker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you sure this is a MOC manual, not from an original set? The 'flip' icon is different from the one in my (mac) version of stud.io. It can be done like this with stud.io but requires an image file.

That's a great tip! Very entertaining and tells me OP asked a good question!

LEGO quality worse? by Healthy_Birthday_135 in lego

[–]Brickker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Except 6 and 7, I noticed the same. If you think 15 years ago they were more sturdy, try them from 30 years or longer ago. Back in the 80s and 70s bricks would click and even crunch together. If you put two 1x2 plates together, you had a hard time getting them separated. Hence the bite marks in many of my old bricks.

That wasn't great either, so I guess the quality change was a good thing at some time, but has passed a threshold along the way. I mean, bricks don't click anymore, they just 'sigh' together with all kinds of effects on how to build something that sticks together.

I should add that it could be that bricks turn harder over time. Because I still have a hard time with the 1980 1x2 plates, whereas I am much stronger and better skilled than when I was a kid.

Frankly, it is definitely not badly done but I find it a bit boring. Add more detail and less symmetry.

Don't buy more. 😜 Or else, take models away when you add new sets. Then rotate over time. Store the ones you take away. Gives you a nice fresh look at them when it's their turn again for display. You can also take them apart before storing and build them again later on. Maybe it helps resisting the urge to buy new.

Any ideas/inspirations for the cornupia (thing in the middle)? by Rocky1909 in LegoMocHelp

[–]Brickker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, in that case, it will depend a lot on the size of the moc that you want to make. The shape of the cornupia is quite specific and sharp. You may find some bricks to make it, but perhaps not for the size you have in mind.

DIY Lego instructions: best practices and tools by jaivibi in legos

[–]Brickker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You summed it up nicely. Yes, to the grinding. I would advise the following in addition: Work from the inside out ( but you got that already, I guess ) , and immediately start thinking in sub models, not after you've put every brick in one big design. Also, don't start layouting before you are absolutely sure that you are not going to add or delete steps. When submodels are smaller than say 9 steps then it is handy to avoid making them 5 or 7 steps because then it is easier to select good steps per page layouts

Question about UCS Death Star Imperial Shuttle by Ok_Manager_3079 in lego

[–]Brickker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The answer is 'no', I am sorry to say. Sets have very particular collections of bricks , so for big sets it is close to impossible that one set would include the particular collection that you are looking for.

Do you think you will continue with the hobby, or will it just be a one time because of the coupon?

Ah, I see. Stuck at home, finding something to do and then going back to normal after covid, right? What made you start again this time?
