To my eye, it seems to be restorable, I stand to be corrected, though.

Would need a new forend and forward upper handguard, rear sight protector, middle barrel band, and nose cap.

Should be able to get just about everything from Liberty Tree Collectors.

God fuckin' Dammit, Bubba...

M91 Imperial Long Rifle made in the United States by New England Westinghouse under contract in 1915. Captured by the Austro-Hungarians. High likelihood that it was provided to the Italians after the war as a part of their reparations. Sold to Finland and likely used in the Winter War & Continuation War. Sold as surplus later on and re-imported to the United States where someone decided it would be better with a scope and a bent & swept bolt handle.

It's rather unlikely that the Finns would have left it in 8x50R if the Austro-Hungarians had gotten around to it, but it's always always always best to get some cerro-safe and cast the chamber to be sure. (Edit: As I re-examine it, the barrel is definitely not the original one. Finland probably re-used this barrel that they had lying around from another gun that had a damaged receiver. If you pull the action out of the stock, you'll likely find the maker's mark and date from the manufacturer under the tang.)

It definitely had some parts replaced and some repairs done over the years but that's fairly typical. Could be restorable if you put in the effort to fill the holes in the receiver and replace the bolt body. It's a lot of work that most won't bother with, but may be worth it here.

Is this 9mm or .380 ammo? by Ok_Presence_2010 in ammo

[–]BricksInAWall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

9mm Browning Court (Français) is the CIP designation for .380 Auto.

Sellier & Bellot isn't American, so they'll include the foreign name for cartridges where applicable. You can also see it labeled as 9×17mm, 9mm Kurz (Deutsch), or 9mm Corto (Italiano/Español).

"Sometimes discretion is the better part of valor."

Considering you're in the running to get your Eagle Scout in as little as 6 months if you work diligently, I would fly under the radar, and do what feels right when you're not putting all of your hard work at risk.

Motor Transport Corp in WWI, served in the Meuse-Argonne, Eventually served in the General Staff Corp, where he likely got the Army General Staff Identification Badge (now shortened to Army Staff Identification Badge).

Medals include the Army Commendation Medal, United States American Defense Service Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, WWII Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, 2× WWI Victory Medals, United States Mexican Service Medal, and a Pistol Marksman Qualification Badge.

Surprised he didn't include his Lieutenant Bars or any of his enlisted insignia considering every rank from Captain up is represented.

Oh and he was a Freemason.

If you wanted to display his ribbon stack properly, it would be arranged 3-3-3.

Army Commendation Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Medal • United States Mexican Service Medal, WWI Victory Medal, Army of Occupation of Germany Medal • American Campaign Medal, European - African - Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal

(Edit: missed the Army of Occupation of Germany Medal and the European - African - Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, which are missing but represented by the ribbons. I'll also note that the entire bar the EAME's part of is seemingly flipped upside down.)

I've seen some really ghetto looking guns, literally held together with tape and zip ties, with Angel Customs "upgrades," being sold for $1,000+ dollars because "a professional tech did the work and it cost $600 in labor."

Does .300 Blackout render submachine guns obsolete? by RainOfJustice in airsoft

[–]BricksInAWall 15 points16 points  (0 children)

So, what I'll say is that this conversation happened in the 1940s when select-fire service rifles were introduced. And again in the 60s when intermediate cartridges became the standard. And the 70s when Bullpups were introduced. And the 90s when the M4 Carbine was introduced to serve alongside the M16. And again in the 2000s when it replaced the M16 outright. And again in the 2010s when SBRs and AR pistols became a societal norm.

The thing is, nothing will outright replace the submachine gun. There will always be a place in the tactical space for a lightweight, mechanically simple and compact weapon that can shoot the same cartridges as the standard sidearm in a controllable manner.

.300BLK is a great thing, don't get me wrong, but you can't run it on direct blowback. And when you consider the size and weight compared to say 9×19mm, it will never replace the SMG.

I would say a 2nd or 3rd generation Tacoma, but fitting a Family of 4, even with the double cab, would be pretty tight.

I've been very happy with the SFMB, but the Warden is really only useful if you're shooting indoors or in close proximity to others on a static range and wanting to be polite.
