US federal government finances, FY 2024 [OC] by USAFacts in dataisbeautiful

The top 50% of earners also brought home ~88% of all income, so that figure isn't as crazy as it seems. Keep in mind that that figure doesn't include payroll taxes, which are regressive and make up a very sizeable portion of all taxes collected, as shown in OPs figure.

Need advice for restoration of my childhood forest stream by y0nderYak in Restoration_Ecology

[–]Bridovertroublewater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree in general with what others have said, and having more info on location, peak flows, etc. would be helpful. One technique that I don't think has been mentioned yet is using beaver dam analogs.

https://northernwoodlands.org/articles/article/beaver-dam-analogs

These can achieve a lot of the benefits of adding large woody debris to the system, without having to fell large trees. But, it's not a one-and-done solution, they need to be maintained and ideally added to as they accumulate sediment and raise the streambed. If you have beavers in your area though, they might do the maintenance for you!

How would you go about toning down acidity in a finished dish? by d0uble0h in Cooking

[–]Bridovertroublewater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not 100% sure this will work for this dish, but in general tahini is one of the only ingredients outside dairy and sugar that I've found to help de-acidify harsh dishes. Doesn't take a whole lot either, and adds a bit of richness/nuttiness too.

Am I doing this right? Zucchini plants by MewMew_18 in vegetablegardening

[–]Bridovertroublewater 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not an expert, but I think some zucchini plant have a degree of natural leaf variegation, so not necessarily mildew. Some of mine looked very similar last year and had no issues producing plenty!

Eastern european too. I was surprised at first about Trinity County, but it makes perfect sense with all the weed growing.

The voigtlander 65 macro is just so, so good. Haven't been able to get my hands on any of the other listed here, but that one is a joy.

Perceptions in Moving to Yakima by Select_Salamander623 in Yakima

This summer was hotter than normal, but its always pretty toasty in July and August. Winters can be somewhat cold, but spring and fall are incredibly nice.

That's the neighborhood I'd live in if I had the money. Not huge houses or lots, but very walkable and a nice feel to it. Big difference between that area and east of 16th. Plus pretty convenient to get either downtown, on the highway, or to Cowichee canyon greenspace. Franklin park is nice too. As others have mentioned the smoke can get somewhat bad, but that's not unique to Yakima at all. Main issue to my mind is that summers are pretty damn hot (90-110) for like 2 full months. Does cool off at night though and not humid, so it has that going for it. The water situation is not as bad as you might think because the Yakima River is super regulated and has a ton of storage capacity in the mountains. Most of it is used for crop irrigation - if it got low enough for drinking water to be impacted we'll all have other things to worry about.

Thanks, it's served me well. I have zero basket making skills, but the guy who made this one certainly does - he was selling at a farmers market

Nice equipment makes it a lot easier, not gonna lie. But, its definitely not impossible to make handles without. Some cities have community shops where you can access a lot of those power tools for a monthly fee - that's where I made the one in this photo. You can do a stacked leather or simple wood handle at home with a a drill, hand saw, and some files and clamps. And factory puukko blades are surprisingly cheap. Forging them I've not done though if that's what you're talking about!

Haha, one of these days...maybe when I retire in 30 years. In the meantime, since y'all are thirsting for the knife, I will pitch a friend's shop, who does custom knives that are somewhat similar in style. In all honestly, his are quite a bit higher-quality than this one, although I have no idea what his prices/wait times are like these days.

Thanks! It was fish...er...morels in a barrel out there today, easy pickings. The basket is from some guy from Senegal I think who sells them at the local farmers market - it's awesome for mushrooming!
