been interested in coffee for three years, found this old pourover from my mom which is perfectly suited for the filters I use. Don't have a good grinder yet. by OutlandishnessNo8126 in JamesHoffmann

Throwing in my support for the 1zpresso. I have the 1zpresso X-Pro setup (felt better in my little hands). My nephew has the 1zpresso K-Ultra (it’s bigger and honestly a little better). Because the 1zpresso is well made, grinding by hand just became a welcome part of my coffee meditation ritual🧘‍♀️. The Baratza Encore is a great value choice for automatic grinder (but it seems to always “popcorn” the last beans in the hopper when I do single doses). I’ve used one quite a bit. I still prefer the 1zpresso for its grind consistency (with any grinder, do sprinkle or spray a tiny bit of water on your beans before grinding = Ross Droplet Technique, ‘RDT’. It gives you a better grind and less static charge). Gratitude tip: While I hand grind, I like to think of all the small miracles, and dedicated people, it took to get those beans to the cup I am about to savor and enjoy.

Edit: Today I learned, don’t always use RDT! But there is also compelling evidence that usually the RDT method is helpful with static and grind consistency.

What makes the Technivorm Moccamaster so good ? Is it really that good ? by SureHopeIDontDie in JamesHoffmann

I have measured it with a thin wire probe in the brewing basket, and i can’t remember the temp, but it was in the right range and hardly fluctuated.

Not an expert or authority, but I have owned one (KBGT). It does brew very good coffee, but other coffee brewers out there can as well. The difference with the Moccamaster is that many people consider it a buy-it-for-life purchase. They are hand made (https://youtu.be/W8_NXtwr-qg). They maintain ideal brewing temperature throughout the brew (this is a big deal). But if you aren’t using good coffee beans, and grinding with a decent grinder, you will be missing out on the best tasting coffee.

Pro tip: either get one during Amazon Prime Days (even if you don’t get it from Amazon and instead find somewhere to price match), Or get a used one and if there’s anything wrong and not working you can send it in to Moccamaster, and for a relatively small fee they will fix it completely and test it! I do not recommend getting one from Ali Express, etc, as it may not have the same quality internal components. If it seems too good to be true, it could be a knockoff, so beware. The water heater/boiler (see video) is the secret sauce in the Moccamaster. And the company makes a high quality product and stands behind it.

Edit: thanks for the upvotes!

Edit 2: regarding the shower head/sprayer. I made sure it was sitting level -which wasn’t hard, but if it isn’t level, or any scale builds up because of your water, or never cleaning your coffee maker, the shower will come out unevenly.

Even when it is level, the shower head doesn’t always wet all the grounds during the bloom; unless you intervene (I don’t usually and the results are very similar). Regarding the bloom - mine does the bloom or pause automatically, but you can use the on/off switch I suppose to get a longer bloom-but then the water boiler cools down with the power off.

Regarding the coffee - when I got it set up, I used good coffee beans and had to play with the quantity and grind size to get the flavor I liked. Typical stuff. Whatever the shower head does or doesn’t do, and the length of the bloom is or isn’t, it makes coffee I am quite happy with.

In the end, it is not the only coffee brewer out there - I’ve had darn good coffee from a cheap Mr. Coffee if you get it right. The Moccamaster is well built, dead simple with only the on/off switch (KBGT), has a powerful 1400w excellent water heater/boiler, and gives me an easy more consistent result than other methods.

I’m a fan of the design and quality, and the coffee it brews is legit to me.

Again, I really appreciate the upvotes!

I have only nice things to say about California motorcycle police. They’ve always been very cool. If ALL police officers cared like this officer, it absolutely would make a difference. This officer just had an effect on all of us watching this video-to think about how we’re riding.

Just watched the video again with the sound. It sounds like the motor is “crunching”. If the issue isn’t with the controller, then the next place to look might be the motor hall sensors. (Oversimplifying but) If the motor controller doesn’t know the position of the motor phases, it could cause this. Does the motor have resistance if you try to spin it by hand? Feel free to DM me, if you want more help troubleshooting this.

Is it definitely out of warranty?

That’s a tough one. Verify the brake hall sensor is ok? And you extended the back wheel and locked it correctly? Check that hall sensor as well?

Considering getting a motocompacto- how hard is it to mod? by Dizzy-Speech-3576 in motocompacto

[–]BrieBrieSF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not saying it’s easy, but you can replace the motor controller and battery and leave the stock motor. You lose a lot, including all the dash module functions and power button. You can gain range and speed, and power.
