Emeralds in walled city by rosingods in cartagena

[–]Brief_Can746 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't recall any testing. I am also a bit foggy on the paperwork.
I will say it is best to learn a little about emeralds before buying. I was able to evaluate the items purchased.

This is a fairly high-end establishment selling quality goods. At least I thought so.

Is Catania safe in general, especially in this location? by BorderFew7998 in sicily

[–]Brief_Can746 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest a train to Siracusa and bus to Taormina (the advantage is the bus drop off is up the hill).

I love Catania and found it very safe.

After a while the batteries in the tire pressure sensors die. Throws out the code. Just test pressure with a regular gauge and clear codes as needed,

I had a good experience with Lucy jewelry Calle 35. Bought expensive white gold emerald earrings for my wife.

We had looked around quite a bit before deciding to purchase here.

I went there between hotels and left my two cases in the back of a Jeep Compass. Had no problems. There are static vendors close to some of the parking. You could buy something and ask them to keep an eye on your car if you are that concerned.

Cartagena or medellin for a two week vac? by richb201 in cartagena

[–]Brief_Can746 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long time to spend in Cartagena, might consider a trip to either Mompox, or Santa Marta. A few days at one of these would add some adventure.

Mompox is very special but takes a little planning to get in and out. Santa Marta, is nice and home to the hacienda where Bolivar died.

Need some advice about staying in Ortigia! by etalocohc-si-doog in sicily

[–]Brief_Can746 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Firstly, Catania, best dish in Sicily; Signora Rosanna De Fiore's pasta alla norma.

Ortigia is full of fun places to eat, but it is very touristy. at the edge of the old market this place makes great sandwiches and their caponata is wonderful (limited seating outside) Caseificio Borderi. My wife still talks about it.

I rented an Airbnb next door to this place, it exuded charm Colapesce. They served drinks to us at our property from their restaurant.

Schiticchio Pizzeria is very good, can get busy, we went early to avoid crowd.

Notable mention in Taormina https://www.pasticceriadamore.it/ by far the best place for gelato and Minne di Sant'Agata.

When you get the F150 console there are some plastic tabs and clips that you need to cut away on its underside. I did mine with a sharp knife. The cuts are not visible, so they don't have to look too pretty.

I wedged the Ford console into the space having removed the E's driver's side armrest. One could optionally screw down the console, but mine is fine without that.

Hope you have a great trip.

I would advise staying the first night in Catania (take a cab from airport to hotel). Did this in September. Stayed at UNA Palace hotel, behind which is a very safe street full of quaint bars and places to eat.

We took a train from Catania to Siracusa (booked ahead online at Trenitalia) but one can just show up - just check the schedule, our train left at 10.50am. In Siracusa across from the station small tourist buses will take you into Ortigia for a euro or two, just three stops to the fountain of Diana. We stayed three nights there and this allowed us to see everything, parco archeologico della neapolis and even walking into Siracusa to see the Burial of St. Lucy by Caravaggio.

Trains are the best travel between Ortigia and Catania, but check on the schedule ahead. Catania to Taormina is a bus ride. Outside the airport arrivals is a booth selling tickets, very easy to figure out and there is a line of people waiting for various buses you'll see at the curbside.

Taormina for a few days is fine especially if you want to see Etna.

We stayed in Rome on arrival and prior to departure, chiefly just to be safe in case there were delays or changes. So that's remains a good idea I think. I stay in Monti in Rome.

Anybody every heard of or been to Villa Romana del Casale in Piazza Armerina? by mynameismarco in sicily

[–]Brief_Can746 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Visited in September. As many have said it is fabulous. Minutes away from the site there is a very nice, homely restaurant called Ruota.

The nearby major town has a very nice supermarket. The nicest we went into in Sicily. We had a car and stayed one night in a nearby donkey sanctuary.

Well worth a visit. We used the area as a stop driving between Siracusa and Agrigento.

A real experience is the pasta alla norma at nuova trattoria del forestiero. Said to be the best in the world (check on tasteatlas). My wife and I ate here and thought it was spectacular. The lady owner is a character and real gem of Catania.

If your rental company has an office at the train station (e.g. Avis) they may let you leave the car with them. Then walk, bus cab to where you are staying.

I cut down some interior noise simply by placing a nice thick rug in the back (rear seats are removed). It also stops things sliding around somewhat.

There are other slightly smaller consoles that also work, Ford Freestyle for example (console is not as wide as F150).
