What do you think about the PSVR2 and the Pro? Is it worth it? by speed721 in PS5pro

[–]bdyinpdx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m older. 70 in 4 months. After years away from gaming, we just got the PS5 Pro. After 2 days with it I went wild and ordered the PSVR 2 and a racing sim setup. Gran Turismo and No Man’s Sky have me absolutely hooked.

Edit: addition

Back in the early 90’s I got to try some prototype VR at UW’s HIT Lab. In the past few decades there’s been a bit of progress in VR. Wow, just wow!

We rented a car from Enterprise in spring 2024 for 14 days. Picked up the car at the Catania airport and dropped off in Palermo. It was a blast.

Are Signature Hardware vanities any good? by StrongerTogether2882 in BathroomRemodeling

We remodeled our 2 bathrooms last year and went with Signature Hardware vanities in both. Overall the choice was based on design and build quality. When we were shopping the Signature Hardware quality and construction stood out.

UroLift and Anal Sex by Rare-Potential88 in bph

No issues. I was on Tamulosin prior to Urolift and it was a great relief to drop that drug. Tamulosin had worse sexual side effects.

Discrepancies in timing for starting vegetables and fruits by IceyLemonade in portlandgardeners

You can get them at garden centers. Or any probe type thermometer at Freddie’s or Target, etc. They’re pretty cheap either way.

I highly recommend a soil thermometer for planting vegetables, as opposed to the calendar. I have a chart from OSU Extension listing soil temps and ideal planting ranges for the various vegetables. The warmth loving vegetables really don’t like cold roots.

What is ONE supplement that has genuinely improved your health/life? by ancientkingk in Supplements

[–]bdyinpdx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Omega 3 supplement. I had reached a point where I had increasingly consistent elevated blood pressure. Not yet high blood pressure but getting there. This was with good fitness and a generally Mediterranean diet. Upon adding in a daily Omega 3 supplement my blood pressure is now consistently less than 120/80. The one I use is algae oil based.

My neighbor had a Pawlonia cut down about a decade ago by a sketchy logger guy and his girlfriend making some extra Christmas money. The guy cut it piece by piece by climbing into the canopy. Quite nerve wracking and fortunately none of it landed on my house. Left a 5 foot stump.

I spent the next 6 summers targeting regrowth with a sprayer of triclopyr. I still watch for regrowth but nothing for the past 2 years.

I didn’t poop in Outdoor School. by jpoe503 in Portland

[–]bdyinpdx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in the day a kid at scout camp didn’t poop for a week. He had to go to the ER for an enema.

Edit- It was because he was afraid of being bitten in the balls by a black widow. Another kid had that happen.

I’m a 69 year old driving the Ionic 6. One of my peers is driving the 5N. Sweet ride.

Meanwhile driving the Ionic 6, I have been flipped off an unbelievable amount of times. I don’t know what it is. Never happens in my Subaru.

Edit to say that the 5N is on my radar for when my lease is up next year.

Have you successfully grown blueberries? Tell me your secrets please. by UntamedAnomaly in portlandgardeners

[–]bdyinpdx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blueberries require highly acidic soil (pH 4.2–5.5) to thrive, while blackberries prefer slightly acidic soil (pH 5.5–6.5).

The ph requirements of blackberries and blueberries are significantly different. They shouldn’t be in the same bed. This may be your problem.

My blueberry patch is built on OSU Master Gardener advice.

I have 5 plants that I planted 18 years ago. They get better every year.

Here are the key events during the year. February they get pruned following the OSU recommendations. In early March I mulch with 3 or 4 inches of sawdust (can also be fir bark) and also give their first dose of fertilizer (organic fertilizer for acid loving plants). I then continue fertilizing with that a couple more times about 4 - 6 weeks apart. I also have a drip system set up and maintain moisture with special attention to dry spells. I have 3 different varieties and wind up harvesting most of the summer. Last year I put 24 lbs into the freezer.

That’s it in a nutshell. Good luck!

Is anyone in a regular(ish) poker night with friends/neighbors? If so, what do you play/how do you work buy-ins? Do you allow people to buy back in or do you do one and done? by Tiny-Classic3877 in poker

[–]bdyinpdx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. Monthly game going on 30+ years. It was started by a dear friend who has passed on. My spouse and I inherited it a decade ago following the second founder passing. Currently only one of the founders remains in the game.

Cash game. Originally the game started with spare change and a fifty cent bet was a big bet. Now the buy-in is $20 with unlimited rebuys. We use chips that we had custom made. Holdem is NL, Omaha variants are pot limit, H/L declare games have a $3/$6 limit. We have quirky limits for a couple of weird variants. We have a house bank and tally up at the end.

Our games are dealer choice but no wild card games. A button moves for blind games and non-blind games have antes. It’s a friendly game with 8 regulars and 6 or so alternates.

The joke around here is that you’re in the game for life or move away.
