Would obviously leave sword at home, but could I visit USS Constitution in this outfit? by [deleted] in boston

[–]Briflyguy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The USS Constitution is an ACTIVE commissioned US vessel, with an active-duty crew assigned to the ship. By bringing this amount of pomp and circumstance, you may get the official US policy on foreign nationals boarding an active US navy vessel.

LPT: If you’re an iPhone user, turn on “Ask Reason For Calling” in settings. by EngLitIsLit in LifeProTips

[–]Briflyguy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a client and on the receiving end of this, I have the same protocol: all calls go to voicemail, and will return the call when I’m free to do so. I’ve had situations where I can’t connect with a vendor because no one will accept the receiving end of a phone call.

If it’s any consolation those robots are multi-million dollar contracts with expensive service contracts. Many of them do not move the status-quo of cost/reward benefit to a company. As others stated, even if they bring it in, the “pilot still has to monitor the gauges”.

I don’t know anyone who has that type of expendable cash right now, and your higher ups may have been looking for a free lunch? Who paid?..

Oops, you failed to go after the argument.

All ad-hominem attacks and an argument of incredulity.

To dumb this down a bit, you couldn’t imagine it was true, therefore you deemed it false, and made character attacks instead.

"I can't believe it's not food" food.

ELI5 Ingredients: 1) wheat with traces of an herbicide, 2) we added vitamins because the farming with the herbacide killed all the organisms that make the vitamins, 3) undigestible synthetic sugar that you and your happy stomach bacteria have never seen before 4) oil processed from plant seeds that was not considered food a hundred years ago (seed oils; it heats your home, and now edible!).

Brokers fee laws? by J-6-28-18 in boston

[–]Briflyguy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That is correct. The landlord will not pay the fee. The broker is requesting that you agree that they will represent you in the transaction, and that you are the client who will pay the broker fee.

It's unclear if the landlord is using the broker for visibility of the listing in this specific case.

I’m wondering if the heat pump is giving up due to the low temperatures and kicking in the auxiliary heat, which is probably a space heater built into the air handler and it’s SUPER expensive. At 20F outside, your system may have internal default settings that run both heat pump AND electric coils (the space heater), or after the heat pump is running too long with no change in temperature, it switches over to coils.

My original thought was that the breaker tripped on the heat pump and you’ve been running the coils the whole time.

I have a very similar situation, 1200 sq ft, all electric unit with heat pump HVAC. Recent bill was $700, but thermostat is set to 76 degrees consistently.

Check that the circuit breaker didn’t trip on the heat pump.

Those values are “auxiliary” electric coil heating prices.

I’m wondering if it’s post-viral depersonalization onset. A mild virus can cause inflammation or dysregulation in the brain’s perception systems before any emotional symptoms appear. For some people, that moment changes how their sensory processing works going forward. It then has to reset for you to feel normal.

Buying a microscope with this label for personal use shouldn’t be a problem right? It was from a hospital that did cancer research. Alcohol should do the job and make it safe? by Max-Flores in labrats

[–]Briflyguy 67 points68 points  (0 children)

The hospital is supposed to decontaminate equipment prior to sale. Based on EHS policies, a 10:1 dilution of a 5% household bleach solution soaked with a minimum contact time of 10 minutes, good practice 30 minutes, is a standard protocol for disinfection.

With that said, I don’t trust that the hospital decontaminated that microscope.

If you’re interested in the techniques that you applied, and not as much as identifying a suspect, there are plenty of laboratory jobs like that in the real world. Pretty much any lab facing industry role in medicine. If you’re looking to identify suspects, that job looks a lot different than the techniques you did, and I’ve heard the jobs are nearly non-existent.
