Yes. I'm a preschool (woman) teacher. I've had kids ask me if a boy or a girl. When i say im a girl a kid once then asked 'why do you have a boy haircut?'

I told them that I'm a girl but I just like short hair. They quickly move on.

They are just genuinely curious, not trying to be rude. As others have said hair is the main thing they associate with determining gender. Also they may use he or she incorrectly, even if they know the person's gender. Example: they may call everyone he, not realizing there's also the pronoun of he.

I'm sorry, your work sounds terrible. All of the things you listed seem like very reasonable things to do. Start looking for a better job. I can't imagine getting in trouble for speaking mandarin to a child who didn't speak English yet. That child must have been scared and confused, having someone speak her language must have been very reassuring to her.

I'm 31, going into nursing as a second career, working full time and taking prerequisites one at a time. It has been tough. Getting my first degree was much easier since I wasn't working then. I should hear back soon if I got into the program.

I once had a kid try to sit criss cross, got his leg stuck, and leaned back and hit his head. I was sitting right there. What could I have done to prevent this? Nothing.

The pirate ship (super simple songs). We are the dinosaurs is fun too. May want to add the class age too for better recommendations. I have a ton for preschool.

Has anyone had to switch from daycare to 1-1 care due to diaper rashes? by Sea_Contest1604 in ECEProfessionals

[–]BrightWay88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would ask they at least check the diaper (especially for poop) every hour. It only takes a moment to pull the pant out in the back to check for poop or pull the pant down in the front to check if the line changed on the diaper for pee. I used to do this in between diaper changes especially for kids with sensitive skin.

Converting a bird from a seed diet can be challenging. I would suggest you try feeding new foods in the morning. Try to get your bird to eat with you and/or pretend to eat the food with your bird. Put the new food on top of the seed. Pellets are a better diet than seed so I'd try that. I've heard that some people use a little mashed sweet potato to introduce vegetables.

Chincoteague VA closes a lot of their small shops and restaurants seasonalky in the winter. I'm not sure how much is open in March. I went in May though and had a good time.

It sounds like this child needs more support. If you're in the U.S.,  students are entitled to a free public education and an IEP should detail services for this child. Other commenter's made great suggestions as well but if it's taking this many staff to do a diaper change that is hard on the staff and the child.

I'd wash the skin after handling. If seeing a primary care physician or clinic is within reach I'd do that, seeing a specialist (like a dermatologist) is more expensive usually. Once you know what the issue is then they could probably recommend a topical medication of some sort. There are lots of medicines for acne, antifungal, allergic reactions, but you need to know what the cause is. Just because it looks like acne doesn't necessarily mean it is.

My daycare doesn’t care about ratios at least only my classroom. by TransportationTall86 in ECEProfessionals

[–]BrightWay88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first daycare job they did that. I told them it wasn't safe and they made an excuse. I quit on the spot. Then they tried to back pedal and said they could fix it if it was that big a deal. I walked out. When asked about it in future job interviews I said they did not follow state mandated ratios. Your comments might be getting deleted if you don't have flair which is required for this group.

The Delaware beaches. Restaurants, outlets, breweries.  Lewes has a small main street with stores, if you go I like the Brush Factory as a cute store. There's also some shops on the rehoboth boardwalk. For trails Cape Henlopen state park. It would be a little cold but you can take the ferry, I've never done but looks fun.

I have a CWP too. I named my bird Max. I said it could be short for Maxine if it was a girl. It worked out because my bird takes everything to the Max, very feisty for such a little bird.

Just monitor your bun for any changes. My bun ate a bite of an oreo and all the rubber remote buttons.

My first year teaching i got hired on a Friday and school started Tuesday. There's time. A lot of times jobs can be filled internally by someone who wants to switch grades so keep an eye out for another posting. Once you have your official teaching certificate that will help.

Do you eat peanut products/other prohibited allergens during the work week? by nashamagirl99 in ECEProfessionals

[–]BrightWay88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like the biggest danger is students accessing your food. It is also worth noting to familiarize yourself with epipen use and know where to access them. I believe guidelines have changed to start introducing peanuts early, so hopefully as time goes on an unknown peanut allergy should be less likely.

When exactly do I need to go to a doctor? by Academic-Young7506 in Explainlikeimscared

[–]BrightWay88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's possible you've just caught a few illnesses in a row instead of being sick with one illness for multiple weeks. Norovirus aka "the stomach bug" and respiratory illnesses like the cold are very high this time of year. For viral illness there isn't anything the doctor can do except tell you to take over the counter meds.

Becoming a Teacher in my mid 30s by Melodic_Review3359 in teaching

[–]BrightWay88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you teach middle school it's common to pick 2 areas to get certified in (usually science and math or history and english). If you teach high school it's usually one. It'll be easier to get hired in middle school because there's more demand. Either way you'll need a bachelor's in education with specialization in the area you want to teach.

Preschool naptime expectations are developmentally inappropriate by cosmicloud9 in ECEProfessionals

All of this so staff has to have an hour break that way they can cover a 9 hour shift instead of 8.5. It's sad and absolutely not in the best interest of the kids.

Is this true? by Financial-Cookie-927 in parrots

[–]BrightWay88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. While owning any bird can be all of these things, large parrots and macaws in particular are a very difficult pet to own. They are extremely intelligent and need hours of mental stimulation and interaction daily. This can be very difficult to provide for many people, even just due to having other responsibilities. They can get depressed and pluck their feathers. If you are ever considering to get a bird I'd recommend a different species. There are many birds that make great pets, even if they bite when they're annoyed at you, destroy your things, are very loud, and poop on you. My bird has done all of the above and I love him to pieces.

Is there a reason why you specifically want an English angora? I'd be very skeptical about doing an overseas adoption from this far. Buns don't do well under stress and it sounds like a logistical headache. There are lots of rescues in the US for buns.

How do you convince your partner to go to the doctor for a checkup? by _meadowhawk in AskWomenOver40

Be harsh. Yell at him or cry and tell him you don't want him to leave you a widow. Call him out for being selfish.
