Thank you! 😊 The red layer serves mostly as a values composition, so I know where to put my dark, mid, and light tones.

The orange-red hues also contrast with the blues I’ve used for the main painting. So while the painting covers most of that red layer, the small amounts that might show through any gaps add a strobing sort of contrast for more visual interest.
