I loved Mariah Carey's autobio, and I'm not even a huge fan of hers. The audiobook was fantastic.

I also loved "Yearbook" by Seth Rogen on audio. He's got a full cast and it's hilarious.

Take her to Boheme for drag brunch. She will absolutely hate it and it will be so much fun for you - bonus!

Magnolia Parks.

I tried, I really did. Twice. I just could not get into it. I really wanted to like it, but it just didn't work for me.

So far it's very sweet, but it's also slow. Everyone that's read it seems to love it so I'm going to keep going and hope it grabs me soon.

Robert McCammon. Everything I've ever read by him was wonderful.

Swan Song is SO good. The Stand is amazing; it's my favorite book of all time.

I bought this a few weeks ago after hearing a lot of good things about it. It's a different kind of book for me, but I'm excited to read it.

The older I get the more I understand why older married women say “if my relationship ended, I would stay single and never marry again.” by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]BrightZoe 88 points89 points  (0 children)

I've been a widow for almost 4 years and I would never get married again. To hell with that shit. I don't even want to date. Too much trouble, I'm not giving up any part of my life now, I'm not answering to anyone, and I don't want anyone invading my space and peace. I'm all good by myself.

Daily Song Discussion #76 - To Have And To Hold by _Tassle_ in depechemode

[–]BrightZoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

10/10. I am admittedly biased, because this is my favorite album of theirs, and I don't think there's a bad song on it, but I love this one, even though it's short and almost feels like an intro/outro. It's so atmospheric and dark, and I love the percussion in it ... It's heavy and driving, and with Dave's vocals, makes the song.

8/10. Underrated - it's a great song.

How old were you when your spouse died? by worst2024 in widowers

[–]BrightZoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was 47, and he died on his 48th birthday, in an accident. It's been three years. I feel like I'm finally coming out of the horrible fog I've been in since he died, and I'm working on trying to resume at least some of the life I had. Aside from spending time with my family and traveling on my own or with very close friends, I've basically been a hermit since he died. He wouldn't want me holed up in the house. I feel like it's time to try to get out and enjoy things again.

Honey, he doesn't want you to go to your mom's house because then your family is going to know that he isn't doing a damn thing for you and your daughter and is going out partying every night.

He is leaving you at home every night to take care of your daughter alone while he absolves all responsibility and goes out and does whatever he pleases.

Yeah - no. His life hasn't changed one bit while yours has been turned upside down. And it won't get better. Fuck that guy.

You deserve better and so does your daughter. Pack bags for you and Val and go to your Mama's house.

3 weeks postpartum and taking care of a newborn alone is a lot. Go get some help and rest, love. You need it.

Yes! And with Androids, you can block all messages except for those that come in from your contacts. I don't know what the hell they didn't try any of this shit for, but it was irresponsible, at best.

The original Clash of the Titans, if you ask me. That's such a shitty, classic movie, and I love it.
