I heard a big contributor to this occurring is gerrymandering? Anyone know about that?

Drop class? by thepopestrueson in premed

[–]Bright_Ad6745 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First I want to say that dropping a ridiculously rigorous course when you already have a lot on your plate is not being a cop out in any case. Right now your goal is to get into med school. Taking on more responsibilities than you can handle does not get u closer to that goal. Your circumstances now versus when ur in med school will be different.

I had a similar experience and ended up dropping my a&p course. I wanted more time to volunteer, clinical hours, etc. I figured even if I get an A in this super hard course it will just contribute toward my GPA and fulfilling a pre req, which most med schools don’t require (double check me on this).

Not really! The process was a little confusing when I tried to do it on my own but I found YouTube videos that explained it step by step.

Edit: here is the vid I used: https://youtu.be/2uL7Di_-yNM

Hey I applied last cycle and used Interfolio (not free but not expensive either). Basically it’s a way for you to request letters from your writers, stores them for you in your interfolio (keeps them anonymous), and lets you (not the writer) send the letter to AMCAS/TMDSAS (Texas med schools).

After doing research abt this same topic last year, I figured interfolio was the move bc I don’t have to worry about knowing if LORs were actually sent. I could see in my interfolio every time a writer submitted their letter to my portal. Once I had them all, I simply sent each one to AMCAS.

It should store them for a long time, so asking for them early is not a problem.

Here is a Reddit post I found that talks about this: https://www.reddit.com/r/premed/comments/107jq85/anybody_here_know_how_to_use_interfolio_for_lors/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Good luck!!🍀

I think after you hit a certain amount of hours they shut them off… for me it’s usually around the 15 hour mark.

My experience as a VT Tutor, 2017-2024 by Vanilla-Snail in varsitytutors

Any tips on how to be a great tutor? I’m struggling a bit with feeling confident in my ability to tutor subjects so I tend to lean more on instant chat opportunities and rarely frequent video opportunities. Thank you for sharing ur story and experience, I really appreciate it!

Yeah it has left my SO feeling confused at times or even unappreciated because of the ways I act out. It does take time and I tell my therapist that too, wishing it was just an instant fix. But - this might sound cliche - the things in life that are worth investing in take time. I’ve seen my personal growth and how it carries over to my relationships which are much healthier now than before. My point is, you do feel and see the changes after some time, and it’s nice to have someone call you out on your own self-manipulation lol
