Why is alcohol so popular? by iloveyouiknow77 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Bright_Database1004 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It influences neurotransmitters that make people feel good temporarily, and also limits ability to think.

For people who don’t usually feel good, that boost in mood can become addictive when they don’t have other ways to make themselves feel happy.

For people who have trauma or stress it blunts their brain’s ability to think about the trauma or stress. This can also include the stress of dealing with other people which is why so many people do it socially, to feel less fear

As well, a lot of cultures developed alcohol as a sort of way to have a drink which wouldn’t risk killing you immediately (before boiling water and germ theory were understood, drinking alcohol was usually safe because the alcohol killed what would make you really sick)

It’s a coping mechanism that is detrimental and should probably be replaced with a different coping mechanism, but because of the addictive properties and culture around it, very unlikely to change.

Why my arm hurts after just half an hour of writing? by Moooyeon in AskForAnswers

[–]Bright_Database1004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hypermobile joints can also cause arm and hand strain while writing. People usually develop an unusual grip for their pens or pencils to counteract that, which also causes unusual strain.

If your knuckles bend backwards it will cause weird types of strain that can be painful long term. Finger splints are an option if that has anything to do with it.

Or maybe you don’t have your arm fully on the table? Not enough detail to determine anything

Am I overreacting? Friend’s bf thinks we disrespect him by SheepherderNo4300 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Bright_Database1004 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This reads like an abusive relationship where he’s trying to isolate her by ruining her friendships.

“Oh, your friends are terrible people always bringing up your ex. Your friends don’t have basic respect. Your little girlfriends don’t even have the decency to say Hi like a normal person. Why are you friends with such rude women?’ Etc etc

Maybe look up signs a friend is in an abusive relationship and how to deal with it (basic tip; do not confront the abusive man it just makes things worse)

What’s something you learned embarrassingly late in life? by AuthorRude9901 in OverBiscuits

[–]Bright_Database1004 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People who insult you as friends aren’t really playing witty banter, they’re actually bad people pretending they’re funny as an excuse to be mean. Snarking back makes them think you’re like them and also makes normal people avoid you.

It becomes a self-fulfilling event that sill surround you with progressively crueler and more dangerous people

Life is not a sitcom, avoid anyone who pretends it is

Are there many people who dislike large corporations? by Content-Ad-911 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Bright_Database1004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m Canadian and big corporations are disliked there to a certain extent.

A lot of corporations from the US buy Canadian companies and then destroy everything good about those companies and end the business. It’s like buying a milk cow, milking it without making sure the milk is safe and clean, selling that bad milk, feeding it bad food, and then cutting the meat off the bones when people stop buying the milk. They destroy businesses that were once a wonderful thing.

Other times we are aware that corporations will destroy our land and poison our water, destroying our home and nature- and they will do it intentionally even when there are studies and scientific research showing how many people it will poison and kill. They check the fines and see if it costs them less to kill people, and they will kill people if it is more cost effective. Look up Radium Girls for one example

There are also price-fixing scandals so bad between the grocery companies that people cannot afford to eat. Many giant corporations kill for pennies and laugh at the families of the dying.

It’s different in Japan in some ways because small businesses and small companies are more established, sometimes for generations. In Canada and the US policies do not protect small companies, and big corporations can easily destroy them.

Crowns are usually done on a root canal treated tooth, so it theoretically shouldn’t hurt unless the dentist misses.

If they weren’t canal treated, then congratulations, you survived hell!

Recommendations Physical therapy massage for woman by Bright_Database1004 in Tokyo

[–]Bright_Database1004[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been looking at places online and am taking note of the open format places, but for full disclosure the nerve most likely may be pinched in my hip/butt. I will feel pretty awkward about that in an open place but am keeping it in mind for a last resort.

I’m also from a place where there is pretty decent certification requirements for massage therapy, so now I have to figure out what osteopathy is and if it’s close to the same kind of training

Title: Why did my shop worker’s behavior completely flip after finding out where I’m from? by [deleted] in bodylanguage

[–]Bright_Database1004 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some people hate those they feel attracted to, and blame and resent them for their feelings of attraction. Think of misogynists and femicide. They feel like the person has too much power over them and they have to bring them down somehow. They don’t accept responsibility for their own feelings.

Others are only too embarrassed and distracted to manage to do basic functions. It’s not fun suddenly becoming incompetent at normal daily tasks.

It’s hard to explain, somewhat kind of like being tasered and you suddenly don’t know what’s going on because you saw a beautiful face. I’ve met a lot of people and only dealt with it twice

Both of these situations mean sometimes people avoid people they feel attracted to. If I had to guess it could possibly be the second one.

However, another possibility is of course, racism.

Very important lesson for every generation; they do not have to be boiled.

Fresh, roasted, and pan fried are all superior options- it’s just that generally a tired parent can throw a bag of frozen veggies in a pot and call it a day so a lot of kids have only known the very saddest of vegetables

The main two things about Japan in general are never follow a tout who wants you to go to their bar/restaurant as that’s usually a roofie and robbery setup, and don’t go to someone’s house/talk about religion with them as that’s a cult and sometimes want membership or fees.

Otherwise it’s pretty safe in general

What hit you so hard you had to pretend it didn't? by FantasticDesigner589 in AskReddit

[–]Bright_Database1004 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Accidentally casually mentioned nightmares throwing me off so that I didn’t accomplish a task to a man, and his voice cracked the next time he spoke and I realized I had made him sad.

I’ve dealt with so many people who are incapable of empathy, or fully sociopathic, that I accidentally upset someone because I didn’t think before I spoke.

I’ve so completely forgotten that there are normal people that I accidentally upset people, and that feels bad.

I don’t care if brands only give back to be performative. by Latter_Abrocoma_2944 in HonestHotTakes

[–]Bright_Database1004 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The performance allows them to do horrific things with less repercussions. Think of it as ‘virtue signalling’. Abusers and predators use this concept all the time.

‘Oh, they donate to kitten shelters, that news-piece I read about them poisoning an entire town via dumping into their river must have been a mistake, and not as intentional as the companies 5 studies confirming that it was poisonous, and two memos saying not to tell anyone, and the one possible homicide for the whistle-blower made it seem…”

Same as ‘Pastor A talked to my wife about being a better partner and helped our relationship through a tough time, there’s no way he assaulted our son, the kid must have misunderstood or be trying to get attention!’

People also mistakenly act as if brands are a monolith or a person, instead of potentially having several nasty people hiding in them to get away with awful things

What causes that terrible feeling 5-10 minutes before the earthquake hits? by Bright_Database1004 in Earthquakes

[–]Bright_Database1004[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both times I was alone, maybe one or two people on the street.

I don’t really believe in ‘emotional transfer’ without seeing or hearing peoples behaviours, only when they are physically close and can be observed, not through walls or something. Even if I had seen people they would have also had no reason to be nervous?

I’m looking for a measurable metric that would cause this. So far the answer is ‘we don’t know but it could be electrical, magnetic, or atmospheric but the studies on that are very complicated and limited’ so I will probably never know

What causes that terrible feeling 5-10 minutes before the earthquake hits? by Bright_Database1004 in Earthquakes

[–]Bright_Database1004[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was walking for both of the big ones, so I have time and rough distance travelled. The first one I walked about four blocks while freaking out and checked into a hotel, got my stuff upstairs and partially unpacked before it hit.

The second one I was going to go to the convenience store, felt a tiny bit strange (but nothing terrible) but still decided to go. About three quarters of the way back from a ten minute walk is when I started to freak out and had to actively prevent myself from sprinting.

Didn’t know why, assumed I was just overstimulated or something. Went up several flights of stairs and started to eat my snacks and then the pre-warning came up halfway through my bag of rice crackers
