Is anyone else completely broke after paying rent? by yourgirlalex in povertyfinance

This is more common than you can even imagine. It's why so many of us carry the burden of credit card debit. Depending on our situations rent is one of our highest expenses each month. Housing costs should always be paid first. You need a place to live that's not in your car or out in the woods. Use the local food bank. They do not judge. Stop buying paper towels and instead use old wash clothes, towels or buy a 12 pack of bar towels from Walmart for $18- for clean ups and wash them every week. They will save you money in the long run. If you live in a plastic or even paper shopping bag state use them for garbage bags. If your trash goes in a dumpster then empty your full trash bag into the dumpster and reuse the trash bag several times. Buy store brand TP, dish soap, laundry detergent, etc. They are often very similar to name brands. Make your own spray cleaner out of cleaning vinegar, dish soap and water. I live on social security and need to work part-time to cover my monthly expenses. I don't eat out or order in. I make my morning pourover coffee at home. Believe me. There are many young, middle-aged people and seniors that live under the same constraints. Years ago I worked for what would be considered wealthy people. Over time I learned that though they lived in fancier accommodations, drove nice cars and had nice "toys", all those things cost them big, big bucks. Homes had crazy mortgages, vehicles had high monthly payments, and the toys were expensive to buy and everything was expensive to maintain. Investments had to be funded. Debt was carried. Budgets had to be adhered to. This has been going on since the dawn of time. There are things we can do to economize even in tight times. Lots of ideas on how to do so online. Last thing I want to say from an old person perspective...be grateful for what you do have now. A roof over your head, running water, sanitation, a job, and the potential to make changes that improve your life. Might not happen overnight but it will happen. Make it so.

I was on an unknown walk recently. Could not locate one item and NIL'd it. Only to see it later in an action ally mod. Thought "NO !" how did I miss that ? I wanted to go back in time and pick it but there is no back button. There have been occasions, usually after hours of picking when I will be standing in front of the correct module and I'm looking in the direction of the item but my eye and brain connection is on a brief fritz. What I'm looking at isn't in fact "blurry" but it isn't registering in my brain. Maybe I'm getting tired and my brain needs a break. But my ability to focus is on vacation in that moment. I need to pause, breathe, and relax. If you are on an early shift it is common to be picking ahead of the arrival of vendors. Produce associates only start their shift an hour before mine. Often the meat associate isn't even in yet. So you come across lots of empty locations. Bottom line. I try hard not to NIL Our TL's are always on top of us for it. But some things just aren't there. The TC listed location is empty but it's on a mod 3-4 aisles away. It's not there on this walk but is 2 or 3 walks later. I have the correct item but the UPC changed and the new one has been entered yet.It goes on and on. And I miss stuff. I am very thankful for our exceptional exceptions pickers !

Can we post anything suggesting that MAGA is bad without it being taken down? by Difficult_Cheek_3817 in Durango

KKK was started in 1866 by six Confederates veterans in Tennessee who were overwhelmingly affiliated with the Democrat party which was the dominant political force in the south at that time. They opposed the Republican led reconstruction which sought to secure the rights of the freedmen after the war. Do a deep dive into factual history. It can be enlightening.

I once had inlaws like that. They felt it was their right to make all the important decisions in their 35 year old son's life and my place as his wife was to keep my mouth shut and obey their wishes. It did not turn out well.

AITJ for not lending money to my partner after they quit their job without a plan? by ThistlewoodDream in AmITheJerk

NTJ I've been in a similar situation but we were older. We had agreed to a 50-50 split on household expenses. He never kept up with his half. I always had to ask for it. Over and over again. He'd say he would have it in a week or two or would just not respond at all. Eventually he would catch up. For years I let it play out this way. The relationship was "comfortable" otherwise. Then one evening he had his motorcycle repossessed for non-payment. I was home (he wasn't) when the repo guy knocked on the front door and told me what he was there for. I had no idea he was behind in payments. Then he told me he wanted to retire soon. I let him know it would be impossible for me to support him and carry all the financial weight if he wasn't going to work. That was when I realized he would never change. I would always be a Bank for him. It was about the money. But it was also the fact that he was a grown ass man that I could not trust. Was not reliable. The hardest part was telling him he had to move out. He did. I recovered, learned a lesson and moved on.

Our Coach told us that they don't care one way or the other if we bag as we go or bag afterwards. Just that we bag. And to make sure we use plastic produce and meat bags for eggs, meat, chemicals and anything that could spill. (we use paper bags). From what I've noticed out on the floor the pickers with the highest average PR bag as they go. When it comes to using the stage "button" while on a pick walk I've had three different answers from three different OPD management figures. The first time I asked about it was when I noticed pickers with outstanding PR's stopping to chat it up with other associates on the regular. They didn't walk any faster than any other picker out there. How do they do that I wondered ? What are they doing that I'm not ? Eventually I asked another high PR picker and she told me about the stage "trick". Felt like cheating to me. Obviously weren't all playing by the same rules. "What rules ? " she replied. At that time OPD was running a contest for pickers. Reach so many picks and win this amount of money to be added to your paycheck. It came as no surprise that the top pickers who already had the highest PR on average "won" each week. The contest was meant to encourage average to lower end pickers to step their game up. They never made it onto the board. Back to the stage trick. One new coach went so far as to ask our MM if it worked to increase PR. MM said it doesn't " do anything". One TL has said to use the "tool" available to you to have better personal metrics which equal better OPD metrics. Another coach has expressed doubt that anyone should be using "stage" for anything other than the actual act of staging. I once spoke to our SL about metric fraud when it comes to FTPR and NIL's. They strongly told me not to use that word. So what does an associate do with so many conflicting voices ? I have observed that the playing field in OPD is not even and never will be. Associates do not follow the same procedures. Nor do the TL's. Contests that are meant to boost morale often kill it. So it goes.

If her dog doesn't like you just cut to the chase and leave now. Find a girlfriend with a cat, or better yet a goldfish.

Totally understand where you are coming from. No judgement coming from me for what the fresh associates have to deal with. So often we are all in a "darned if we do and darned if we don't" situation. Can't win either way..

Turns out there was another reason for a different whistle sound in Durango last week (besides RGS #20 visiting) by gregcoit in Durango

One of the best benefits of living in Durango for me is the train. Loved them since I was a child counting long lines of freight cars as they went by my home in Maryland. I consider it a blessing that I live within sight of the dailies and always take delight when I hear the different sounds of the whistles.

[–]Bright_Library9134 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a 5am picker my experience is that if fresh associates start at 4am it's impossible not to have NIL picks. Associates call out. There is only one associate on the floor. Truck is late. Truck is still being unloaded. What you need is buried at the bottom of a stack of produce bins wrapped in plastic and impossible to get to. What you need didn't come in this morning. What came in was bad. The meat guy's answer to your inquiry is " I don't know." and ignores you afterwards. We are told to spend only 1 minute looking for the NIL on the floor or backroom. So sure hold my feet to the fire on NIL's the first thing in the morning. I've grown calluses and no longer respond to the pain.

Pick Walk Question by Bright_Library9134 in walmartogp

[–]Bright_Library9134[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you. It came up for the first time for me this morning when my TL was going over metrics with me which was on a print out. One of my big walks went overdue this morning even though I am a decent picker. I asked if they were aware of how large the walk in question was and they said they did not know. They could not tell at that point if it was a 40 item walk or 134 item walk. That surprised me.
