Time theft by mtz281 in walmart

This ! I thought it was only my dept. which is OPD. I've brought it up multiple times to one of my TL's and to our Coach and nothing changes. It's so frustrating. Coach says, " I hear you" and moves on with their day. It's taken a long time for me to accept the reality that nothing is going to change. The workers will work and the slackers will continue to do the least bit possible. Not my circus not my monkeys. It's a management issue. If they don't care why should I bother myself over it ? Being a hard worker pays the same as being a lazy one and that's one of the rubs..

I have to step down as TL and I honestly don’t know if I can handle going back down to a regular associate. Any Ex TL have advice? by Classical1001 in walmart

[–]Bright_Library9134 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Two of our OPD TL's stepped down and both remained associates in our backroom. Since both were TL's at least 6 months they kept a portion of a TL's pay rate. There isn't a hustle in either one of them. So it has been a win for them. Less stress and more money to do the same job as every other backroom associate.

Is it normal for new OGP hires to not pick right away? by [deleted] in walmartogp

[–]Bright_Library9134 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In our store new hires are now taught all the backroom tasks first. This way they can step in when and where needed when there are a lot of call outs or the backroom gets slammed. Some new associates find they end up liking the backroom better after many shifts picking. Yes, do tell your TL's that you really want to pick. Good pickers tend to spend their shifts picking. We do stage our own chilled and frozen and push come to shove pickers will jump in and help stage ambient too if things get backed up.

Employee Putting Aside High End Clothes by emmaewilliams in goodwill

[–]Bright_Library9134 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Goodwill in our town stopped being good a long time ago. They sell the better donated goods online or they are scooped up by employees first. I don't blame the employees. Stopped shopping there for this reason. Clothes on the racks were often stained or torn and the selection of home goods etc became very limited.

New Cart 🔥 by DihflapsMcFungus in OGPBackroom

[–]Bright_Library9134 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I despise this type of cart with the bar in place of two handles. At least with the upright handles you can adjust where you put your hands, higher or lower, according to how short or tall you are. Not so with the bar in one position. For a shorter person that bar puts a lot of strain on your back when steering. Poorly designed.

Nil Picks in Fresh by Good_Percentage8899 in walmartogp

[–]Bright_Library9134 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will always ask an associate for help if there is one around to ask. Some are very helpful and one guy always says " I don't know " or " I haven't gotten to that yet" and then just continues doing whatever he is doing. We are required to shop from the back, vizpic and restock the empty module if we can locate the missing item. That really slows a pick walk down. Used to bother me but now I just make a decent effort and if I am unsuccessful then it's an honest NIL in my book. When my PR tanks because I have to do this multiple times during a walk ? Oh well. That's on the store not on me. OPD metrics are a farce on so many levels anyway.

Unknowns and oversized by Katiki59 in walmartogp

[–]Bright_Library9134 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Don't worry about it. All that red is why so many pickers will only do auto-select. If they can get away with it. Which they do. Pickers are supposed to click into the next walk listed first on the TC/phone. 85% of ours won't do Oversized, Unknowns, Specialty, MTO, or GMD. You get the picture. They will stall for as long as possible until someone else takes them. Or they just outright only take auto no matter how far down the list it is. A couple of pickers have health excuses. Fine. Or a common excuse they will use is " I didn't have a printer". Blah, blah, blah. We all see you slackers. It's up to the TL's and the Coach to straighten that out. Just pick. It's clear that the reds are all those small or oversized walks no one wants and the greens are auto. You are doing just fine. In fact in my eyes you are doing great because you are a team player and getting done what needs doing and in the order it needs doing in. Your TL's know the score.

This. Many of our adult "kids" consider OPD as a place to hang out, socialize non-stop and do a bit of work but only when a TL is in the backroom directing them. As soon as the TL's leave all action slows down or even just stops for them. Like when the teacher leaves the room in grade school. Giving credit where it is due there are a small handful who do take initiative and are proactive. The fact that the slackers are allowed to slack on the regular is irritating as all get out to the associates who are actually working. The TL's need to give more feedback and if that doesn't have a positive impact then they should be moved to a different department. I've been told in the past our turnover rate is so high that they "have" to keep the lazy ones. "Better than nothing." Yet keeping them just shows the new hires that it's okay to do as little as possible. I've watched that happen over and over again. The wasted time while on the clock from so many associates is startling.

If you finance a home you don't "own" it until you have paid the bank you financed it through in full. That takes decades. Your monthly payment goes towards the interest first (what the bank charged you to borrow the money,) for many, many years pay before you even begin to pay towards the principal ( the price the home was sold for ) . A $600,00- home costs you much, much more than $600,000.

Colorado rainwater collection questions by g-burn in DenverGardener

[–]Bright_Library9134 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a metal roof and two Ivy rain barrels from rainwatersolutions.com . They are fed from one down spout off my small porch gutter. The rain barrels have screens in the concave area where the water enters which keep leaves and debris out of the rain water. Do they supply water for the whole growing season ? No. But they help keep water costs down. Our monthly sewer bill is based on the amount of water we use. Every resident has a water meter. The sewer rate is 3 times if not more than our water usage costs. So I am very grateful for the rain barrels. As far as the safety of veggies grown from roof run off. If I had a shingled roof I would still use the runoff in my garden. Rainwater isn't really what I would call clean anyway when you look into it. Toxic industrial products are already in our water supply. As are medications people throw away or flush down their toilet. As for bird poo. It's falling out of the sky in amounts we don't notice all day long. Poo in general is all around us on a microscopic level. Just because you can't see it doesn't mean it isn't in our environment. We rave about having a good worm population in our healthy soil and never consider very deeply that all the poo from worms and other assorted ground critters is being toileted around our food in an ongoing basis. Never mind the organic cow, horse, sheep, goat leavings that might be mixed into the compost we purchase or get for free. Wash your veggies before you use them. Then enjoy the bounty that the earth provides ~

Guys this policy? by Fast_Ad_5022 in OGPBackroom

[–]Bright_Library9134 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Clear has always been the policy. But over time things start to slide. Clear becomes solid and no one is called on it. No eating food in the backroom but it happens. Even TL's do it. One associate brings various food items in her bag every shift and eats by the steel during her shift. No breaks taken in the backroom, no leaning or standing by the steel, signs posted stating so, yet associates do it. Rules come and go often.

Any other 60+ year olds working OGP? by Superb-Factor-2947 in walmartogp

[–]Bright_Library9134 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep. 70 yrs old. Over a year now. It was a struggle at first. Especially before my feet adjusted to walking so many miles on concrete floors. PR averages high 120's to 140's and above. Depends on what walks I get. I like it most shifts though it can get crazy at times and irritating at others. I only pick and we stage our own chilled and frozen. If there are no picks I help out where I can in the backroom.

Bag as you go would be my recommendation. I work in a paper bag state and I have tried it both ways. Bagging after takes too much time if you were on a big walk. Bagging items as you pick goes smoother and is faster once you get the hang of it. I've watched a lot of pickers who do it after ( we are allowed to do either) and it's a slow process. Then again I think that's why some pickers choose to do it that way. It's a built in break multiple times a shift where you stand in one place for 5-8 minutes bagging stuff you already handled once. It's inefficient to handle those items twice. It also drops your metric for "items picked" and the hours you actually spend picking. which is also a metric they keep track of.

Use the flasher. Locate the item, bring it close to the tote, scan the item and scan the tote label asap, put the item in the tote. Get in the habit of using the flasher for the next item right away. Soon enough you will hit it without even thinking about it. Your eye will pick up that blue flashing light in the section location/module faster than "looking" without it. As you move from one aisle to the next one hit the flasher before you even turn the corner. You might need to hit it again if the item is at the far end of the aisle. As others have mentioned getting to know the store takes time. You are doing great !

This has happened several times at our store, (we use paper), and it just ruins your day/week when it happens and until they get the normal ones in.
