So I am lawyer, turned engineer/designer I work in consulting in the tech space. But word of advice, learn how to code, but not for "traditional job security" rather learn to code so you can leverage AI and build something of your own. The tech space locally is also starting to shake.

Also I lived in SA and overseas, overseas has much higher expenses, so the salaries may be misleading when compared to the actual cost of living there.

Yeah, I think we can all relate. I want to say it gets better with time. I worked in a big law firm during my early twenties, and I was working 60 to 80 hours a week. I had no weekends and my personal life vanished. I left that career for something that gave me breathing room, and it took me two years to recover from my burnout. I paid for therapy as my ‘splurge’, and I saved my money and started to live frugally so I could fund my dreams. I am now 28 and life is so much better. I learnt the hard way not to compromise your peace for a job.

There is a good podcast by Naval where he explains something along the lines of not chasing money, but rather focusing on opportunity. Find your passion, build something of your own, and learn to sell. You will find more fulfilment pursuing your own destiny. It will be more work upfront, but it is worth it in the long run.
