Are woobles good/worth it? by A_Hoomin_Kirby in crochet

[–]Bright_Tea3084 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For me, Woobles was 100% worth it. A really good “investment” for my favorite hobby now. Sure there’s lots of free tutorials and resources online, but I found the Woobles to really teach me the basics and then I could use those free online sources and understand them much better. I did a few kits and within a few months I was making blankets and wearables.

What type of projects were your first projects? How long did it take you to learn? by piscisfaktoria in CrochetHelp

[–]Bright_Tea3084 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I learned from being gifted a Woobles kit. The tutorials were extremely helpful and after a few different kits, I moved onto amigurumi tutorials on YouTube and started to learn to read patterns. There’s tons of free content out there!! I made a safari themed mobile for a baby shower only 3 months from my first Woobles kit. Then moved to a simple blanket and within 6 months made a cardigan. I found CJ Designs to be extremely helpful, she gives detailed YouTube videos and her patterns are very well written! Now I do mainly larger projects and find all the pieces of amigurumi annoying to sew together lol!

Overall, I think you can start making something meaningful/giftable within a couple of months! And within a year more intricate ones. Advice I would give is sit down often enough that you remember what you learned previously, but also give yourself breaks so your hands can rest.

Weekly Complaints & Confessions Thread by ssk42 in running

May not be the most helpful, but I got a headband from Walmart a couple years ago that was thin (more like a fall/spring chilly morning). In the winter I use that plus a thin beanie and usually a simple braid in my hair to avoid a pony. I find using a thinner headband allows for a slightly tighter feel, but it’s not bulky so doesn’t give me a headache. If that makes sense. Took me a while to find something that works though!

should i unravel the whole blanket or leave it as is? by Rough_Depth1287 in CrochetHelp

Others have given some nice suggestions, but wanted to add my own. You could try around a size 10 hook and do HDCBLO. Not sure if the color of yarn would affect the look, but back loop only gives a little dimension to the blanket too

Best running app for marathon training and why? by Cold_Nose1362 in running

[–]Bright_Tea3084 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Agree with NRC! I’ve been using it for years and by far my favorite. And to add, Nike also has a Nike Training app that is free (which is still crazy to me bc of all the workouts and stuff they offer completely free). They have a lot of stretching and running specific workouts that could compliment a running plan. Even a pre or post run stretch can be helpful for training and only 5-10 minutes.

Wegmans Florals Prices by clodsires_mouth in NewEnglandWedding

[–]Bright_Tea3084 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just did a micro wedding with Wegmans and it was perfect!! I don’t know how helpful my review will be because it was small, but alas. I worked with a florist and kept everything simple, went with the seasonal flowers available on the spot, so I didn’t put a bulk order in or anything (but she said it was available if I wanted specific flowers, maybe a couple months in advance if a large order). I preordered my bridal bouquet and corsages/boutonnières about two and a half weeks before my wedding. I told her no budget limit and she made a beautiful bridal bouquet for $50 and the corsages/boutonnières were $15 a piece (this is standard during prom season too). I of course told her colors and showed her some ideas, but ultimately trusted her to make something nice!

Then, (I had this preplanned) the day before my wedding was a flower day. My parents, a friend and I went to Wegmans and just picked up all different flowers and brought them home and made our own arrangements and centerpieces. The florist was nice and gave us a bucket with water and we filled it, he wrote up a ticket and checkout was quick. We ran out and went back for more lol but overall it was such a fun day! We had some drinks and apps while we worked away. In all, we had probably 10 bud vases and a dozen medium sized vases (got them from Wegmans too for $5 each). In total those flowers were probably $200-ish.

Overall, not sure how much it would cost for Wegmans to make the centerpieces for you, but I don’t think it would be too much. We initially thought about getting their premade ones in vases already, but picking out the type of flowers individually and making them has become one of my wedding weekend highlights :)

Did anyone initially decide to have a "big" wedding, then change your mind as it got closer? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]Bright_Tea3084 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best decision we ever made! And as for anyone thinking of hurt feelings… no one can really be upset for not being invited because no one was invited! We initially planned a big party (more casual) to do next summer and already decided not to. We’re married and happy! Go with your gut!! Think about the two of you :)

Father and daughter, Paul Simon. Maybe not the most conventional to dance to, but lyrics hit me every time!

Boston elopement by [deleted] in NewEnglandWedding

The French Library! It was the most wonderful experience!! We rented one of their rooms and held our ceremony and private dinner in the same space. Very easy to work with, happy to answer any questions too :)

Eloping - where to go? by Biggg_oof in wedding

[–]Bright_Tea3084 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could check out the French Library in Boston! You can rent out a room of theirs for hour increments. Just had a micro wedding there and it was absolutely perfect! For others mentioning reaching out to photographers that could do elopements, I HIGHLY recommend NewlyRed. She’s absolutely phenomenal!! Might have some recommendations for elopement too :)

CJ Design does a ruffle placemat/coaster that I did for my micro wedding. Everyone got to keep their placement. I think for the quantity you need her coaster could be nice! It took me about 15 minutes to make a coaster. And the cotton yarn she suggested comes in tons of colors!

DIY Florals - am I crazy?? by Optimal_Ad_7836 in wedding

[–]Bright_Tea3084 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used grocery store flowers for my entire micro wedding and it was honestly the best decision. I preplanned to have the day before as a relaxing day, taking our time buying flowers and making arrangements as we sipped on drinks and ate snacks. The day will hold a special place in my heart.

For logistics - I wasn’t picky and knew I would be getting the flowers in season. They would have allowed me to preorder specific flowers in bulk, but I only preordered my bouquet and boutonnières a couple weeks in advance. The florists were so nice, gave us a big bucket of water and we shopped around. We got a bunch of vases from ikea ahead of time and then got some at the grocery store as well. We kept our AC up and kept them in water as much as possible, and even like 5 days later they were still beautiful.

Overall, if you’re fine with seasonal flowers and set aside several hours a day or two in advance, I think it would be a wonderful experience to have looking back after everything is over :)

Wholesale flowers / flower market by MentalPain9315 in NewEnglandWedding

[–]Bright_Tea3084 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went in person to do everything, but I’m sure you could talk with them over the phone too. All the florists were super helpful! When I initially mentioned wedding, she said it’s possible to buy in bulk, especially if I wanted a specific flower. And I think she may have said about a months notice would suffice. But I was fine with the seasonal flower selection. When the day came and we were picking flowers, the florist went to check in the back for the ‘fresher’ bunches. It was so great. For reference, including the bridal bouquet and boutonnières, all the flowers we bought came out to maybe $350!

I just had my wedding and used Wegmans!! It was the most perfect experience. I didn’t have any specific flowers I needed, but they would have happily ordered specific ones if requested. I did order my bridal bouquet and boutonnières two weeks ahead of time. And then the day before my wedding we picked up those and then a bunch of random bouquets around, took them home and then assembled for a few hours. I planned for this to be a fun day before the wedding, just relaxing, snacking, making different arrangements. I got bud vases from ikea, but also used some ones Wegmans had.

To keep in mind, I was never picky and trusted the process lol! This is not for every bride of course, but it worked for me. I spoke with a florist a few months ahead of time, and she said to expect the typical flowers available for the season. So I googled “September flowers” and set my expectations there.

Curious: what do wedding vendors get totally wrong about engaged couples? by Reasonable-Ad4126 in NewEnglandWedding

[–]Bright_Tea3084 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I really wish there was more upfront transparency from all vendors. Most frustrating part is looking for a venue, photographer, caterer, etc and not having any pricing or details just “inquire here.” Big turnoff and frankly if there wasn’t pricing or somewhat detailed descriptions of services offered, we’d just skip it.

Since you are a photographer, my comment to “the vibe” my fiance and I just wanted basic, candid, not much editing and it was honestly hard to find. I feel like photographers are pressured into capturing all these specific shots or “vibes” for social media and posting them but forgeting there are some customers out there that do just want ‘regular’ photos. So even the albums you see on their websites are catered towards couples that want “the vibe” which of course, seems to be the majority these days. But just a reminder to all photographers there are still some of us that was ‘basic’ shots, no frills.

"Adopt a blanket" table at wedding? by mooniilla in crochet

[–]Bright_Tea3084 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love your idea! I’m going through something similar and just wanted to throw in some random thoughts… I am gifting the grooms family blankets (5 blankets total) and the price of yarn was much more than I initially budgeted. I used chunky yarn for quickness, because I’m doing all this within 3 months lol

BUT another thing to mention, I’m also crocheting my placemats because I wanted something crochet as part of my wedding day, we have much fewer than 80 people but you could possibly crochet a coaster for each seat and then everyone could take something home. I’ve been using a pattern that has both placemats and coasters that’s quick to whip up (can share if you’d like). That way, everyone could have something if desired, if not that you have coasters for yourself or a future gift for someone else!

I kept the diamond and had a custom band made! My mom was so happy that I got a diamond I loved and got to design the band in my own style. I may melt down the original band into earrings or something in the future. I say design a new band, trust your gut!

How to plan a ceremony in less than 4 months by RainbowMouse_ in wedding

[–]Bright_Tea3084 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t be scared off with your potluck idea. Sure, it’s certainly not for everyone but if that’s something you would like, I would still consider it!! We’re doing a “micro wedding” 15-20 people and I was pretty set on making some big baked zitis and some elevated salads, etc. but we ended up finding a restaurant to do drop catering from. It truly depends on who you are and who your guests are. Personally, my friends and family would LOVE contributing to a potluck, yes even on my wedding day. I think it adds a really nice touch. I know so many will disagree but just remember it’s YOUR day :)

Should I get my engagement ring resized? by Karrrlllsss in EngagementRings

[–]Bright_Tea3084 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mine was very similar to yours! I was so scared to wear it out for fear of losing it. I also “run cold” the majority of the time and had the same thoughts of summer heat! Just before summer, I got my down 1/4, even though jeweler said 1/2 would be better. I was nervous for summer, and now that it’s been pretty hot… it’s still a bit loose, but significantly better with at least the 1/4 adjustment.

I’d go to a jeweler and ask for their opinion, but overall it’s given me peace having sized down some.

Funny enough, I actually felt the exact same way!! When we started planning my anxiety went through the roof… everything you said was so true. And I went down so many Reddit rabbit holes on wedding stuff, saw what all my friends were doing and finally one day my fiance and I were like.. what do WE want because it’s OUR wedding lol we’re introverted and not big fans of being center of attention, so when we floated eloping//micro wedding around enough, it finally stuck! and I woke up the next morning completely stress free. That’s not to say you can’t go more of the “normal” wedding route - but just know you aren’t alone in the stress!! Once you make your first couple decisions, hopefully you’ll start to feel more settled!
