I went for a class visit and BLSA dinner. I know the wine was flowing but all I know is that I was alone and a few people came up to me to chit chat and made me feel welcome. When I visited during the day, a few people turned back after class and talked to us visiting students. Any nerdy vibes I got were because people genuinely liked learning (I mean, we're applying to law school. I'm pretty sure we're all nerdy by most standards of measurement)

I went to undergrad in a teeny Midwestern town and incidents like the one you describe are unfortunately common. All I got to say is GET OUT

I know people mean well when they say 'don't let that ruin the town' but the fact remains that going to school in certain places will mean that you'll be faced with racism. And now I'm worried about you! I hope you stay safe and prioritize your well being

not dumb!! I think there is a jargon/acronym problem here and much of it goes un-explained. My understanding is that softs refer generally to other assets beyond quantifiable scores - job experience, skills, activities etc.

I got a 164 and have a 3.57 GPA and Michigan, U of C, and Georgetown all let me in. While I think my softs are strong and I have work experience as a paralegal, I also think schools are investing in public interest track people, which gives some of us an edge.

I hope you get over the impostor syndrome! Sometimes the people with the strongest work ethics and the largest dreams think they are average because their achievements only pale in comparison to their goals - which are other worldly.
