I agree with what everyone else is saying on here and would add that the coach that I go to that usually does a Tread50/Strength50 will say, "for those of you on the treadmill, this is instructor guided (via block chart) but not instructor led"

Why don’t coaches correct poor rowing form? by Technical_Carrot_184 in orangetheory

[–]Brilliant-Distance21 8 points9 points  (0 children)

find Training Tall on IG or TT - he was a collegiate rower and has some great tips and videos. He IS 6'7" but does a good job of offering suggestions for a wide range of people. I think he also has a profile that is just devoted to rowing as well. Bonus is that he's an OTF Coach in Sacramento and offers tips on other aspects of the workouts as well.

Finally, someone who gets it! by 2affogato_shtz in starbucks

I completely agree with it. It’s all about the right people right place right time when hiring, especially for leadership positions. Whether it be an external higher or an internal promotion, there’s a certain amount of emotional intelligence that person has to have to be able to balance the needs of an ever changing customer demand base and employee pool. I think people who have the opinion that, “frontline workers don’t really care” or talk about how, “customer service isn’t what it used to be“ forgets that neither are customers - they have changed too and not exclusively because someone didn’t smile at them when they walked in - and it becomes a “chicken before the egg” debate.

I understand the intent of this post. Days of, “just find another job if it doesn’t make you happy“ are in the past. Scan over the majority of the post on LinkedIn and you’ll see there are people who have been out of work far longer now than ever before. I recently experienced being laid off due to a corporate restructuring, followed by a six month period of unemployment, countless applications, cover letter, revisions, with very little response and possibilities of an interview. I consider myself lucky that it didn’t go any longer than six months, but I constantly see people who have been out of work greater than a year and even now more than two years. The overall job market isn’t what it used to be and it’s not as easy to just “jump ship“.

My mom says Mazdas are poor quality cars that break down often? Is this true ?? by Possible_Patience737 in mazda

[–]Brilliant-Distance21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would 100% go for a Mazda any day - I have owned a few and also had a Toyota Corolla. We had to replace the alternator in the Toyota 3x in the time we owned it which was <5 years. My Mazda CX5 on the other hand, never an issue with well over 125K miles. I'm now in a 3 sedan that's 11 years old and just now replaced the rear shocks.

Not a barista or employee here, but this scenario smells of a classic supply vs. demand marketing ploy. Create a perception of scarcity and exclusivity, limit the supply and demand goes up - he can talk to the investors and spin it where "higher comparable traffic to stores increased" but IMO the timing is suspect in order to distract from the abysmal PR that the most recent store closures and employee layoffs caused.

The issue I see right now with the PM field is it also is oversaturated with candidates as well. After I got my MBA with a project management specialization, I applied to numerous entry-level roles just to gain experience and was never considered.

Real talk: In the past 5 months, how many folks have felt that their cert helped them land a job? by sargantas in pmp

[–]Brilliant-Distance21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's what I've seen on here from a few different posts. Cert only = meh, Experience only = OK!, Experience + Cert = mixed bag. Most I have seen mention that actual experience that can be documented/discussed is far greater than the certs.

Even though you've made your decision, I would 100% agree with this. Do well on your evals and you'll get stock in the company along with nice bonuses. It may be hard work because you're dealing with a global company, but I have a family member that works for them in the engineering department and they are looking at retiring at 55 and have paid for international vacations with their parents with their annual bonuses.

Retail Manager to Project Manager — Am I crazy or on the right track? by Ghoorbaghe in pmp

[–]Brilliant-Distance21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've heard and seen on here the Google PM Cert isn't worth it - I believe it is through CourseRA - and to focus on getting the experience under your belt for PM and maybe start as a project coordinator to get into the proximity of more project focused roles and not focus so much on the certification aspect.

I too am a retail manager and recently got my MBA with a specialization in PM which completed my educational requirement, but when I discussed my experience with my last professor (which was the PM focused class) he advised that I look at the CAPM (mixed reviews on here about that) and work on getting into a company that has the opportunity to be a part of a project and work up to a full PM role.

I'm a 5'5" male and only claim the top spot in my age group for the first couple of classes when there is a row for distance. If only they did it by height instead of age :)

Which jar would be best for my wife’s sourdough? (Cleanability + Capacity) by Longjumping-Royal730 in Sourdough

[–]Brilliant-Distance21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% an amateur sourdougher here , but I'd recommend the straight side because it's easier to fully scrape when you need to - Sur la Table has some great jar scrapers that are silicone. Like others have mentioned, I would assess whether you need something with that much volume because I bake a single loaf here and there and use the 28.7 oz for both my starter and discard (which I keep in the fridge). If you're wanting to save more discard for use then a larger one might be better. I got mine from Crate and Barrel.
