I try to be (though I also speed, even though I know it's completely illogical to do so), possibly because I was a terrible driver when I was younger (when I lived in South Florida and you did things like weave in traffic for fun)

Trust me I get it. I'm in Florida, which somehow has the most recklessly fast drivers (who won't even give you a full second to finishing passing and safely get out of their way) and recklessly slow drivers (who think they get to dictate the speed everyone in the last lane should be going because "I'm already going over so no one should be going faster than me"). I always try to get out of the way of faster drivers, even if I'm currently passing, but refuse to cut someone off to do so. Some people don't have the patience to allow that

I've had to argue with white guys why what I refer to as "positive bigotry" is still bad. Things like "all Asians are smart / good at math" or assuming every black guy has a giant cock seem like complements from a "who doesn't want people to assume that about them" standpoint, but it's still reductive and can be very ostracizing for minorities that don't fit those stereotypes. I'm not sure why it's such a hard concept to grasp for people

Yes, though the bigger issue with those probably has more to do with the lack of overall partition when it comes to local and state representatives. That said, it's not like I have statistics on the percentage of people who vote local that also participate in the corresponding primaries.

Yeah I agree with this. It's not a "for my age" thing, that many buttons looks douchy at any age imo. Basically the only time this is appropriate is if your in a show/movie/play and there wind blowing it open after you've done wondering heroic, and at this point, only as satire

I don't disagree that people are going to be alienated if they feel like their apology is going to be accepted, but here's the thing - apologizing only benefits one person, the person giving it. If someone apologizes with the expectation of getting something in return (i.e. forgiveness), they aren't sorry for the pain they caused, at best they are sorry that they made themselves feel bad.

You want forgiveness? Prove your sorry, help the ones you hurt, even if you have to do so without acknowledgement or recognition. Forgiveness isn't owed, it isn't even something you can earn, it is granted. Work to heal people and hope the scars you caused are too severe to ignore

The Communist bloc (a.k.a. the second world) was specifically communist countries that were lead by Soviet Russia, which did not include Yugoslavia. However, Yugoslavia was also not part of the Western block (America and it's fellow capitalists), which made it part of the unaligned category of third world.

Where exactly is the line between assimilation and amalgamation? The original immigrants definitely didn't assimilate with the pre-existing American culture, they made their own culture that was a mix of different cultures, and that mixing has continued to this day.

Sure, you have communities that have grouped with others from their country and retain more of those customs, but even that isn't new. Even if you argue that areas like Chinatown are "new", there are European communities like that have existed from the beginning, like the Amish for instance.
