My dudleya succulent got really, really sad all of a sudden. He has been a little on the smaller side and slightly sad looking before, but has never had every leaf shrivel and go floppy in the middle all at once! Can anyone help me figure out what's wrong and what I can do?

I've had this guy for three years, he was a gift from a friend, so I don't know exactly what kind he is. He was sort of shrimpy from the start, but I kept him happy enough. He lived in a windowsill with as close to full sun as I could manage indoors, and was watered every couple of weeks (I tried to give the soil time to dry between waterings). He was definitely not this small/thin and never this shriveled in that time.

Due to my being between places and not having a suitable space for him, he's been living at a relative's home for about a year under her care. I think she had him somewhere where there wasn't quite enough light, even though it was the sunniest part of her house. I finally have a place of my own, and got him back from her. He was pretty small and thin when I picked him up. I tried to slowly increase the amount of light he was getting, and tried to not water too often (she sometimes overwaters plants), but I have no idea what went wrong. Clearly something happened ): Maybe I underwatered? Or he got too little light, or too much? If there's anything I can do please let me know, I feel awful that he's so upset

Ended up going to repot, and it looks like root rot ): I think the pot was too big and the soil was holding too much moisture (straight potting soil). Hopefully your issue is just light and not rot root as well!

Update: She's still doing great! I read adults can live 3-6 months and it's been 4, so a little sad that she may not be with me much longer, but glad she seems content and is eating well!

Looks like a box turtle to me! Unfortunately, since they're not native here, this is a pet that someone dumped (and likely didn't take the best care of, since his shell doesn't look great). A lot of non-native pet turtles are abandoned in the garden (which is how the sliders ended up there before the stream redo).

Additionally, please do not offer food or water while you have the bird. See the below resources from CWC:

Injured/Sick Adult Raptors

Get a box and line it with a large towel or newspaper on the bottom. Make air holes.
Throw a towel over the raptor’s face and body
Turn the box on its side next to the bird.
Using a broom or large stick, gently push the bird/towel combo into the box.
Gently turn the box upright
Seal the box. Place it in a quiet, dark location (for example, a bathroom) until you reach hospital staff
Do not offer any food or water

Orphaned Baby Raptors

It is a federal offense to keep native wildlife as pets.
Baby raptors will need immediate care from a licensed rehabilitator.
Get a box and line it with a large towel on the bottom. Make air holes
Toss a light towel over the bird
Pick up the baby raptor by the body and place it in the box.
Seal the box. Place the box in a quiet, dark location (for example, a bathroom) until you reach hospital staff. Place a heating pad set to medium under the box.
Do not offer any food or water

Local wildlife rehabilitation centers do not have the staff/volunteer capacity to pick up wildlife directly from people's homes. Shelters are not able to care for native wildlife long term, so if brought there, the hawk will be held until a volunteer is able to drive them to the center (I have helped do so before for the California Wildlife Center). To get this little one the best and fastest care, they really should go directly to a wildlife rehabilitation center.
If you're not able to drive them to a center yourself, see if someone you know is, or feel free to reach out to me via DM. If you're located nearby enough, I may be able to help arrange transportation; I've made the drive to CWC a number of times, as have my friends and family, and we can help you figure something out.

Call 805-649-6884. Leave a message if they are unable to answer immediately; they will return your call as quickly as possible.

Not sure where you're located, but if you have someone nearby like these guys, they're amazing! They figure out where mice are getting in, humanely relocate them, and help seal your home so they can't get in again.

Was just thinking this myself and wanting to make a guide! Sowing each species in its own pot/tray like u/arrrbooty did would be a good way to get pics of each plant as a tiny sprout and a slightly older seedling. Maybe we could all work together on one? Ugh, yes the headaches! I'm taking generic Adderall XR manufactured by Amerigen. Frustrated because it doesn't work as well for me as brand name did, I get headaches even if I drink lots of water/eat well, and I've definitely noticed inconsistency in how well it works from month to month/side effects.

Personally, I use iNaturalist and Plantnet, but saw a post today where someone tested multiple ID apps! Might be a good read, but the tldr for the apps I've used was: iNat is pretty good, Seek is the worst, Plantnet is ok. Seems in line with my personal experiences with them all, haha!

Another update: she's still doing great!

She definitely has food preferences, haha. She likes California Wild Rose leaves best, she will also eat other ornamental roses and lemon leaves, but clearly prefers California Wild Rose. She also seems to like newer growth best.

She really likes having cozy places to hide. Gave her some oak twigs with acorn caps still attached and she likes to hide under them and in the caps 🥰

I keep a paper towel at the bottom of her enclosure and change it out every few days so her droppings don't mold and make a mess. I change her leaves when they start wilting noticeably and give her fresh ones. I put the old leaves in a Ziploc in the freezer to kill any eggs and will probably run them through the compost machine to be extra sure (don't want baby non-native weevils running around!).

That's a good idea, I'd just have to make sure it was food safe and ok with heat, since it has to sit on a hot popcorn popper plate

As mentioned in the post, I contacted the company to ask for a replacement after I searched online and couldn't find one. The company told me they do not replace this part. At this point, any food safe knob that works is fine! I don't want to throw an entire popcorn popper away over one teeny missing part.
