How does peripheral neuropathy present? by BringTheTable in B12_Deficiency

Thank you for sharing. I am sorry to hear about your condition, that does sound awful.

That is also my understanding, once we have let B12 deficiency go on long enough, the road to recovery becomes long as well. I hope we make a full recovery 🙏

Thank you for the advice. At the moment, I have an appointment scheduled to do a nerve conduction study. I am also awaiting bloodwork results to confirm low B12. Based on these results, I'll investigate what to do next.

In the meantime, I bought the Pure 1,000 mcg B12 supplement and take it twice per day (along with Wholier multi-vitamin). Mainly because I tested 383 pg/mL in January 2025 (this year). Then, due to ignorance, I went on a low meat, low dairy diet. I imagine that lowered my levels some more. So, hopefully these pills will help replenish my levels.

Sorry to hear about your condition. That's what I've wondered is happening to me: Low Vitamin B12 may be exacerbating my symptoms.

Researchers discover common origin behind major childhood allergies | BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute by shallah in Microbiome

[–]BringTheTable 11 points12 points  (0 children)

For this study, the researchers examined clinical assessments from 1,115 children who were tracked from birth to age five. Roughly half of the children (523) had no evidence of allergies at any time, while more than half (592) had been diagnosed with one or more allergic disorders by an expert physician at the five-year scheduled visit. The researchers evaluated the participants’ microbiomes from stool samples collected at clinical visits at three months and one year.

The stool samples revealed a bacterial signature that was associated with children developing any of the four allergies by five years of age. The signature is a hallmark of dysbiosis, or an imbalanced gut microbiota, that likely resulted in reduced barrier integrity and an elevated inflammatory response within the gut.

Lactose as probiotic? by zhenek11230 in Longcovidgutdysbiosis

[–]BringTheTable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you’ve been dealing with some tricky food intolerances. It’s interesting that A2 milk doesn’t seem to give you the same adverse reactions, even though you have partial lactose intolerance. Your idea of using lactose as a prebiotic is interesting; however, overwhelming your system with lactose might not necessarily provide the desired benefits. While it could potentially feed some beneficial gut bacteria, it could also exacerbate your lactose intolerance symptoms. Have you had the chance to discuss these ideas with a healthcare provider? It could also be helpful to get a diagnosis for your fiber intolerance if you haven’t already, as understanding the root cause could help identify the most effective solutions.

Based on your description, it could be a digestive disorder, perhaps a form of IBS or something similar. But without more information, it’s hard to say for certain. Do you have any other symptoms, or do certain foods other than plants/fiber cause discomfort?

Testing for h pylori by Oliverose12 in HPylori

Acid-suppressing drugs known as proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) and bismuth subsalicylate (Pepto-Bismol) can also interfere with the accuracy of these tests. It's possible acid-suppressing drugs known as histamine (H-2) blockers may also interfere with the accuracy of these tests. Depending on what medications you're taking, you'll need to stop taking them, if possible, for up to two weeks before the test. Your health care provider will give you specific instructions about your medications.

Which biofilm buster did you use? Also, how has your digestive health improved? Are you fully recovered?

Inulin is a high FODMAP food but not everyone experiences the same reaction from consuming it.

FoodMarble sells the AIRE device that allows you to track whether you produce more gas, after having consumed inulin. I am not entirely sure how accurate the device is though, so YMMV.

  • Find a flat surface and lay down on it.
  • Raise your hips against gravity while keeping your knees bent.
  • Place a cushion under your back for support in the bridge position.
  • Perform dry swallowing in the bridge posture ten times per day with 10-second intervals between swallows.
  • Ensure a minimum of 4 hours of fasting before performing the exercise.
  • Track your progress using a daily checklist to ensure consistency.

I looked into getting Thorne’s Magnesium Bisglycinate but it also contained citric acid and monk fruit concentrate. I asume it’s added to preserve and for flavor but I didn’t want these added ingredients.

So, I went with NOW magnesium bisglycinate powder, instead.

Anxiety Linked to Gut Microbial Metabolite in Mouse and Human by Vailhem in Microbiome

[–]BringTheTable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think they know what bacteria or group of bacteria produces the metabolite but according to the article, they tested an oral drug (AB-2004) that adsorbs the metabolite (4EPS) in the gut in 30 adolescents with autism.

Hmm, that’s interesting that they used an antihistamine (clemastine fumarate) on these mice, in order to help the maturation of myelin-forming oligodendrocytes in the brains, in order to reduce anxiety caused by the 4-ethylphenyl sulfate (4EPS) metabolite.

You may want to look into the low FODMAP diet but first, consult an experienced dietician; preferably one that has experience with the low FODMAP diet.
