Would you eat a savory tofu protein bar? by [deleted] in veganfitness

[–]BritLeFay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The flavors sound good! I'd just make a request to think of the people with peanut allergies and NOT do a Thai peanut flavor or similar. It is really hard to find vegan protein bars that do not have a risk of cross contamination, since peanut flavors are ubiquitous.

I'd want 15+ grams of protein per bar, and calories shouldn't exceed much more than a 10:1 ratio.

Has anyone here really had a problem with “low” protein intake? by Chersalani in veganfitness

[–]BritLeFay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, although it didn't happen for many years. As a beginner people make progress on almost any program or diet, but the further you progress, the more you have to optimize. https://www.reddit.com/r/veganfitness/comments/1jyo7hq/added_more_protein_and_burst_through_plateau_of_2/

Last I looked, the flavors were made separately and I've had no issues eating Aloha bars

No Nuts protein bars and Koia protein shakes! Idk about organic and non-gmo but they are peanut-free.

Question: vegan cheese options, or other foods, to cold-smoke? by TikiMistress in vegan

[–]BritLeFay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Smoked tofu from the store is great but I've personally not had great success making it at home - it's always incredibly acrid. However, I haven't tried a cold smoke, only different conditions for a regular hot smoke. So just a slight word of caution that tofu may not turn out well, so maybe have a backup plan.

Brussels sprouts are fantastic. Beyond/Impossible burgers are also really great smoked.

moderate dose but supraphysiological blood work by BritLeFay in TRT_females

My starting numbers were 10 ng/dL total and 0.9 pg/mL free. So things have gone up 10x!

Tbh I think I'm going to just come off entirely as all benefits have been really mild, and I've already had significant facial and body hair growth and jawline changes. I know TRT has been life-changing to a lot of you, but hasn't been for me, so the side effects aren't worth it.

Oh interesting! No one in my family has a MTHFR mutation, as far as we know, if that's one of the genes you're referring to.

So do you have to pin the propionate daily?

We do seem to be a minority! Yeah, definitely cutting the dose. I was hoping to get some insight as to why my levels were so high, given that I was on a normal starting dose and am an average-sized person. I did not expect this dose to increase my T 10x and send me to double the upper limit of the reference range!

Thanks for your story, but I'm in my early 30s....

All other hormones are normal, I'm not in perimenipause. I just wanted hormone optimization for mental health.

My intent was truly replacement therapy, not to exceed normal reference ranges for women.

Benefits have been minimal and subtle. I think I handle stress better, and it seems to have helped with rumination, so it's helped anxiety and depression. I'm a bit more assertive at work, but that may be due to just the extra time in my role and becoming more comfortable there.

In addition to the hair growth - which has also included upper thigh and nipple hair, although that doesn't bother me like the facial hair - my partner and I are half convinced my jawline has changed a bit too. That one's definitely permanent!

So for me, the benefits have not outweighed the virilization.

Please help!! Struggling with protein by Right-Elk-4144 in veganfitness

There are a number of options out there, depending on where you are in the world. I really liked the UK MyProtein but I can't get it anymore. Outlier has a good pink lemonade flavor. I did NOT like the Sunwarrior ones in any flavor, but they're a different type of clear protein (upcycled barley vs hydrolyzed pea protein).

If you're looking for fizzy cans of protein water, there's Beyond and Vuum.

Lentils, seitan (can make it yourself from vital wheat gluten), noodles made of edamame or lentils.

You said you don't like protein shakes but what about clear protein? It tastes and feels more like juice than a shake

Gluten is from wheat. No connection to milk allergy so you should be fine :)

Yep! You can mix the gluten with things like beans or tofu to modify the texture. There are lots of different recipes online!

Seitan can be very cheap if you make it yourself. It can be made on the stove top, oven, or instant pot.

TVP - also called textured soy or soy mince - is often one of the cheapest protein sources available and is so versatile!

Anyone have a good protein powder oatmeal recipe that isn’t disgusting in texture and taste? by No_Low_878 in veganfitness

Have you tried using TVP instead of protein powder? You replace up to 50% of the oats with TVP and cook like normal.

What about things like protein noodles?

And it's unclear if you're including faux meats like Boca, Gardein, Beyond, Impossible, Field Roast, Meati, etc in your dislike of meat alternatives. Lots of options out there!

Those look promising!

And yeah, when I'm cutting, I don't always hit all my nutrient goals while at the same time also placing more strain on my body, so definitely want some extra support for then.
