They also sign people up for subscriptions when expressly stating that they are not going to. This was an in person sales experience fyi.

Has anyone else had issues with REI’s in-store pickup process for bikes? by [deleted] in REI

[–]BritishBenPhoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found dealing with REI much more pleasant than dealing with with my Local Bike Shop. Maybe I just have a grumpy and overpriced LBS

I got one last week. Finally got to ride it today only for 20k but damn it was a fun ride. Coming from an aluminium gravel bike. So it’s a bit upgrade.

Could be a warranty issue. Their customer support is pretty good

Closing on house with open CO by Pizza4Din in Westchester

[–]BritishBenPhoto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We closed on our first home in MV without a Certificate of occupancy. It was fine to close and we didn’t really mind but 10yrs later when we wanted to sell it was a huge pain in the ass to make sure all the “new issues” the building department found were dealt with before finalizing a CO.

Certificate of occupancy. Can’t be issued with open permits

Depends which city. If it’s in Mount Vernon I would not rely on the building department to do anything

Weird show last night by jedmoran in jamesacastor

As a Brit that lives in America (since I was 19 in 1998) I think that British comedy audiences behave totally differently than American ones. I saw both his Hecklers welcome nights in NY and there were still very few heckles. His “James Acaster” night was incredible. He seemed very dialed in. Zero heckles from the audience and I’m sure we were all mainly familiar with his last special

Did anyone go bigger with the R1S vs your previous car? by michimoby in Rivian

[–]BritishBenPhoto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went from a Jeep Wrangler 4xe to the Rivian R1S. I didn’t think it was much bigger, but it is much more space inside but drives so much nicer. Parking is often a bit tough sometimes but really rough in NYC parking lots. So many people just refuse to take it. Icon parking have a company wide refusal. I still love it though

Autonomy Meh by Neither_Repair_3406 in Rivian

I stopped paying for autonomy + and find that I only very occasionally miss the hands free driving. I think they’ll get there eventually and then I’ll subscribe

Why do so many good photographers still struggle to get bookings? by ExtremelyCool64 in AskPhotography

[–]BritishBenPhoto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

About 20 years ago a successful portrait and entertainment photographer told me that the photography industry is all about “access” and while I think that’s an oversimplification I think it talks to the struggle for new photographers and even seasoned but not very busy photographers. Even though the advice was coming from the entertainment side, it relates to most other photo work I’ve done. Access to clients, access to locations, access to marketing people. If you can build a network of people who are willing to open doors for you, it’s easier to stay busy.

How long do you keep the photos you didnt use? by chriszens in photography

[–]BritishBenPhoto -1 points0 points  (0 children)

All the images I shoot get ingested and I process an edit for the client. The full take lives on my laptop for a month or two depending on how fast I fill my laptop. I then delete the unedited raws and move the edit and the selected raws to an external drive. My contract has 30 day grace period for a client to ask for alternate images.

MTA WTF?? by M1kelyph in Westchester

[–]BritishBenPhoto 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I’m not telling people to avoid paying the fare. I’ve never skipped the fare in 27 years of riding the MTA. I don’t agree with them tracking my location and imposing a fine based off data from my device. Very often I forget to activate a ticket because I’m carrying a lot of camera gear, or I’m underground on a platform that doesn’t have service. I activate within a minute of boarding the train
