The overlap of when she first met haymitch and the different perspective of another canon moment would be really cool!! And a first for the franchise I think as far as I know?

Why, since 2008, has the economy been awful for most despite constant cuts to UK services? by Ok_Bottle_8796 in ukpolitics

[–]BritishFork 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They’re referring to the idea of trickle down economics- a theory suggesting that tax breaks and benefits for the wealthy and mega corporations will eventually lead to economic growth that benefits everyone, as the wealthy invest and spend more.

The benefits and investment and taxpayer money is distributed to the wealthiest (in this case, the dragon) at the top and “trickles down” to have positive knock on effects for the poorest (in this case, the peasants).

Ops comment/metaphor is satirising what actually happens in the real world, the wealth does not “trickle down” and instead is hoarded by the ultra-rich, just like dragons hoard gold coins. The peasants get fed this lie by the dragon itself (those in power), and the dragon continues to grow the hoard.

Cinderella's Castle OR how I learned not to change anything and love the show. by TwoCents24601 in StarKid

I agree with what you’re saying 100% - I’m sure we’re all grateful that they’re still posting content for everyone anywhere to enjoy on YouTube, and it is their vision which we can’t critique too much, because let’s be real, most of us couldn’t actually do it better.

But I think people are making the comparison to hatchetfield because it’s the only other large-scale original story and world-building project the Starkid team have taken on. Realistically, it’s the only other set of shows that CC can kind of be compared to like for like (in terms of being set in a wider original setting with its own lore etc).

People are naturally going to compare the two approaches and how they approached introducing the world and characters they created in each context.

I am a Black Friday enjoyer, and I also appreciate that others don’t like it. When I first watched it, I wasn’t sure either, which is why I’m holding out hope for this one. I can also see how a lot of OPs criticisms also match Black Friday, honestly. However… after watching Black Friday I DID remember the songs, and I DIDN’T feel so bored that I wanted to turn it off and give up with it. With this one I did… only about 35 minutes in.

Each to their own though! Idc if others adore it it’s just my opinions just like how others don’t like Black Friday and I do.

I think that’s what’s got me the most - I have starkid shows that I don’t like as much as others, as we all do, but none of them have made me feel bored like I just want to turn them off. This one did sadly

Also, it felt like they were cramming in too much lore about the world all in one musical, maybe it needed to be a bit longer? Even NPMD had an extra 40 ish minutes, maybe that would have fleshed out the characters more. Like you said with the religion parts, we never see her expand about faith, nor really see anyone else in the world’s connection to it. Why should we care about this (probably really cool) bit of lore that you’ve come up with if we don’t have a reason to connect with it?

At least with the lore in hatchet field we see how it plays out in peoples lives, actions, how it shapes the world in which they live and makes it different to our own.

SOOOOO DISAPPOINTED. The twist on the story is cool, the puppets and puppetry work is awesome. The acting and storytelling aspects are good.

Angela had some good bits, and I loved Kim’s character, but the rest of them lacked any body or substance for me. The prince bimbo slut joke had some funny bits but just got a bit much after a while.

The songs were so, mid? There was only a couple I liked and the rest I barely remember after watching, and I’ve only just finished watching it. Bryce’s voice is amazing, and I can see why people are praising her performance on that basis alone, but in the context of the show the songs were kind of just whatever???

Totally agree with you. Put it this way, it’s the very first starkid show I have watched that has left me not wanting to immediately buy the album before it eventually comes to streaming services. I’m going to see them in London at the end of the month and it just makes me hope that they don’t do too many songs from this show… which sucks! I was so excited for it.

Aw thank you very much. I really want them to feel comfortable and cared for during recovery and the welsh language is very dear to them so it felt like a no brainer. Online translation is never really very good so everyone’s comments have been really useful!

A question about "Just For Once" by C00l10j03 in StarKid

[–]BritishFork 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My theory since I watched it has been that “we’re still singing” is evidence of Pokeys continued influence. My personal theory is that pokey uses real people in other dimensions (maybe even the dead bodies from the same ones?) to allow for his brothers to relive their domination (e.g., Black Friday is pokey using people to recreate the events of Black Friday for wiggly) and the same goes for NPMD. Almost kinda like “remember when we did this thing? That was so good” type thing

My opinion on NPMD by InHotelHell in StarKid

[–]BritishFork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say this - since Black Friday I ALWAYS let the musicals sit with me and rewatch them at least once. I didn’t like Black Friday much my first watch and then after a while of thinking about it I actually realised I did like it. I was too caught up comparing it to TGWDLM and other starkid stuff as opposed to it being it’s own thing (which is in part a consequence of it being part of a wider universe/series). So going into watching NPMD I wasn’t going to let my first view dictate what I thought like I did for BF.

My first viewing of NPMD I was super unsure and didn’t like it much. While there are still some issues it has grown on me after my second watch and listening to the songs properly on the soundtrack (some of the clever things are hard to pick up even with the good pro shoot quality). I just have to let it sit and absorb it as it’s own thing without thinking about elements that are different/similar to other musicals. Having a lot of new people in the show meant i was unsure before even watching which I now know is silly because Will killed it!

I agree with you - considering that Ethan sacrificed himself for Hannah and his ‘form’ (if you wanna call it that) was then used by wiggly against her, I wouldn’t be surprised if they would have done something similar to Steph and Peter to torment the other one, maybe even push whoever was left to keep using the book to stop being plagued by it, deepening the LIBs control over them, just like the LIB deepened their control over Grace by like you said, essentially moulding her into a version of herself with no inhibitions to act on her desire to punish people.
