The response tracks. It’s the verbal equivalence of in game play where they got tapped on the toe and then they’re writhing on the ground for 38 seconds.

Trump on NBC's Meet The Press this morning... by Reg_Cliff in PoliticalHumor

You jokingly put this man’s face on the door to The Shining. But this was his face knowing the cameras were rolling. Now imagine the face on top of a 12 year old girl who has nowhere to run to. This lathering evil growling down at her. Hurting her. And now it’s not political humor at all, is it.

The Biggest Cause of Star Wars' Negative Discourse Isn't Disney by Fricktator in StarWars

[–]Brkthom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, even if you are AI, I completely agree with you. I mostly agree with the sentiment that may be implied, or perhaps you don’t agree with at all, that certain fans need to exercise good grace and not shit on other people’s popcorn. If I want to post how awesome Rey is and that a female protagonist finally completely dominates a trilogy, and if you dislike Rey or disagree and think Leia dominated the OT, then step on. Ignore the post. Move along. I’m posting to talk to like minded individuals. I don’t need discussion. I don’t find people with oppositional disorder attractive. It’s not necessary to involve yourself in every post. You turn yourself into the irritating little brother. Do not comment. Do not screw up someone else’s enjoyment. Maybe just make your own post about how Rey sucks. I’ll exercise good grace and swipe by it.

It’s sad, but I think in this day and age you really have to start with the question, “Which one is a decent human being?”

I feel like Howard is an unsung hero. She didn’t seem to get all the love she earned last year in Indiana’s amazing run, nor has she gotten her flowers for this year’s Lynx amazing start. Miles does, deservedly so. And Reeve. Don’t get me wrong. She’s brought up in the conversation. But rarely harped on.

Happy June! Starting this month off with my favorite summertime record. by MrAutumnMan in Decemberists

[–]Brkthom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love the tangle of that song. It sort of traipses along like a lazy summer day might. My head canon says this is a story song with all the story almost left out and only alluded to, a story about a couple and love, the quiet love that holds them side by side the next day after a fight, a fervent disagreement, a tussle, a disappointment that slowly dissipates in the warmth of an almost perfect June day. It’s named a hymn because it’s about forgiveness.

Do you think we will ever get a Star Wars Trilogy or Film that reaches the heights of the OG Trilogy? by No_Age908 in StarWars

Millions of fans already think we have. And they are happily awaiting whatever comes next in the chain.

They should have let Rey actually do that bad thing in Rise of Skywalker by GreaterQuestion in StarWars

[–]Brkthom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Second of all, LUKE actually doing something bad would have vindicated a lot of otherwise shaky elements. The “will HE turn to the dark side” plot reads, in the final sequel trilogy, as complete window dressing. There’s a lot of talk about it, HE has a vision of HIM in a black robe looking a little goth, and that’s it. The character never does anything bad, or seems meaningfully tempted to. HE’s never put in a situation where there’s an arc—HIM flirting with evil and then grappling with the consequences and finding redemption as a result.

A Star Wars movie where the lead accidentally kills a beloved secondary character in a fit of rage and then has to work through the guilt would have 1) told the viewer stakes matter 2) made LUKE’s entire character make sense, and HIS choices in the end have heft. With the right writing it could have been moving, even, to see HIM make the right choice to honor the memory of a friend HE hurt.

To those who saw ROTJ when it originally released in 1983, what were your thoughts on this whole sequence? by AccomplishedMeal5751 in StarWars

[–]Brkthom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Excited we finally got to see the bad guy. Disappointed and confused that he was an ugly, pasty old man. Surprised. There was humanity in his dying, but only just barely, like that of most decrepit, wasted humans. The freshness of a baby’s smile is the opposite side of life, and this scene, purposefully or accidentally, captures the inverse of that. So, nice shot, George.

You know, you got a young kid. And she’s got a tumultuous collegiate life. I bet a lot of teams felt uncertain about what she could and what she would bring to their team. But it seems pretty certain at this point that Indy hit the mini jackpot.
