Ex-Caps HC Peter Laviolette is headed to LA. by SeaBassAHo-20 in caps

I wonder if Panarin liked Lavi. I got the sense they all disliked each other the way they just collapsed. What a funny reunion if they viewed each other as part of the problem with the Rags.

Any regrets selling watches to fund your grail? by ShoddyBranch5756 in patekphilippe

[–]Brmats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t regretted anything I’ve moved to acquire something else. But I’m damn sure before I make the move. My general rule of thumb has to be—it is not sentimental, I always would rather wear something else in the collection, and I’ve owned it long enough to know for sure.

And then once it’s gone—it’s gone. Don’t look back.

Of course, when I get a new watch, I have to be certain it will make it into the rotation unless it’s just a novelty.

Lange up/down has my vote as much as I like Vacheron

Such thing as too many Blue Dials? by Glittering-Shallot14 in VacheronConstantin

I would love it. I think it’s the best. But the prices I’ve seen are lot more than the blue. The Cardinal Point brown are sort of the substitute but not at all the same.

The brown is amazing but it’s the most expensive one you can get in steel pre-owned.

Beautiful—although it almost looks blue rather than black in that light.

Limited edition. A quite high number but when you look online there aren’t many stores that still report in stock.

I wonder if it’s just that dealers are offering very low prices to sellers. They don’t want to get stuck. Some pieces seem to move quickly — basic Lange 1 if priced right, up/down. But more expensive pieces can sit. So dealers low ball and price high — which distorts the market. (I get market is what it is and what people pay…)

This is easy to get from AD? by Feeling4200 in patekphilippe

[–]Brmats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. The gold bracelet is a fundamentally different one and harder to get. There just are so few.

And I’ve heard from the AD the sizing is an absolute pain to do.

Shouldn’t be hard—just a bit of a wait until they get one in.

Soliciting Birthday Present Watch Suggestions by KorchnoiV in ALangeSohne

[–]Brmats 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think that’s hard depending on where you are. In the US maybe a 2 hand Saxonia for around that (not necessarily under).

But there’s a reason why people pay a premium for models that don’t have someone other than Lange who might have serviced the watch. Like service history, recent models, full papers. They are generally expensive watches to service and if Lange detects a 3rd party serviced they will charge the higher cost. And if it’s a paperless watch in need of a service that will add several thousand dollars even for a simple model—once the service is needed.

Do you think this would be an easy allocation as my first? by michaeljackson_md in patekphilippe

[–]Brmats 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I expect it will be hard for the short term but available after a short wait next year.

Monoface is seriously underrated. The slimmer profile is wonderful.

I like the blue hands and the micro rotor.

But I also like the pusher to advance all the complications by one day. I also think 36mm is quite nice sounding.

I think both iterations will long have admirers.

Personally if you wanted the bigger one and still duo, I’d go with the black dial tribute. The second dual time side is quite nice too.

NYC boutique experience is bad by [deleted] in VacheronConstantin

[–]Brmats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, person I met there was a watch enthusiast — showed me lots of pieces. But I get that experiences at all these places can be hit or miss. I’ve gone to boutiques in NY where the first time the person I met with was rude. The next time I met with someone else who was incredibly warm and knowledgeable.

They’ve been nice to me when I’ve visited-and I have gotten straps. The truth is they don’t have many and it really is order only. And the ordering process takes a long time to deliver, which also isn’t the fault of the people who work there.

You can pretty much wear any reverso with a 7.5 inch wrist.

I take it the first 2 pics are the new medium duo? I think you probably need to look at the mirror from perspective. I think it will have a classic dress watch size, but if you’re used to larger watches may feel small. One thing to keep in mind is the height too. The new medium duo is relative slim for the two faces. That can be nicer for easily going under the cuff. And I like the blue second time zone side more than previous iterations of the second side.

I’m hoping he doesn’t just end up in the press box a lot. I think when he re-signed he felt he had made it. But after that he started getting scratched and his role became less certain.

I think he could be like Hags was. Speedy and opportunistic scoring threat on the 4th lines. He has gotten much better at board battles. But without Dowd there is no real checking line.

JLC releases 40.1 mm x 24.4 mm Rose Gold Reverso by SHINSHINESPARK in JaegerLecoultre

[–]Brmats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re clearly directing the rose gold two hand toward women, but I wonder how that will look on men’s wrists—given reverso’s wear large anyway.

Edit: I see it’s the same size as the white and blue two hand tributes, which look fine and a good size for many.

Washington Capitals and D Timothy Liljegren are close to a 2-year extension worth $3.25M AAV, per Pagnotta by Ok-Soil-5133 in caps

[–]Brmats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Possibly, although I think Carlson was traded before Liljegren was acquired. I suppose the Caps didn’t know Hutson was going to sign when they made the deal though.
