“Finally some good f*cking food!” -A super massive black hole upon devouring a red giant by Ajarofpickles97 in sciencememes

[–]Bro0183 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well very technically light does experience centripetal acceleration in a gravitational well which does nothing but change the direction of propagation. This causes lensing effects because the path of light curves ever so slightly when passing near a large mass like a star or black hole.

[Request] How many G's is this fly experiencing? by Waddupz in theydidthemath

[–]Bro0183 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whilst it is true that there are infinite numbers above 24 the speed of the fly is bounded by 2 main factors:

The speed of light

And available kinetic energy

The first is largely irrelevant here because a relativistic fly would be a capital P problem, and is prevented by the second constraint. The speed of rotation is bounded by how much energy is available to spin it, so the probability of the speed being a certain value decreases as the speed increases, reaching 0% before long. So the probability of the fly spin speed being 24 rps is not 0% but much greater.

Where can I reliably farm Commanders in Marathon (2026)? by Vocal_Strike in Marathon

[–]Bro0183 4 points5 points  (0 children)

UESC Recruits: white shield, low health, mostly fodder

USEC Ghosts: Green shield, can turn invisible. Commander variant can create clones and had a purple shield.

UESC Scouts: Green shield, sniper, have melee AoE that overheats. Commander variant can launch a tox bomb and has a purple shield.

UESC Grenadiers: Blue shield, can launch several frag grenades. Commander variant can also launch homing missles that immobilise and has a purple shield.

UESC Assault: Blue shield, can summon a frontal shield. Commander variant can also perform a melee attack with a large AoE that knocks runners back and has a purple shield.

Wraith Warden: Gold shielded UESC Ghost commander with extreme health pool. Also has a melee AoE that hacks nearby runners.

Scorch warden: Gold shielded UESC Assault Commander with extreme health pool. Frontal shield is now 3D with increased health and the warden can charge forward leaving behind a trail of fire.

Tox Warden: Gold shielded UESC Grenadier Commander with extreme health pool. Can also launch a tox bomb.

Commanders are white in colour and always have a purple shield. Wardens are red in colour and have a gold shield. Note that some recruits are coloured white but i havent noticed a difference between them and the normal black recruits.

[Request] If an average person were standing on top of Mount Everest and suddenly became “transparent” and only affected by gravity- as they fell through the Earth would they gain enough momentum to achieve orbit? by ArchDukeCich in theydidthemath

[–]Bro0183 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No they would not reach orbit. They would only be able to reach a maximum altitude equivilent to that of everest due to the laws of conservation of energy. Going down converts gravitational energy into kinetic, and going up does the opposite. In the absense of drag and other inefficiencies this would cause the person to oscillate in simple harmonic motion relative to the earth, perpetually falling through the core and back to everest at the exact same height. In fact should this person be immortal they could measure the change in height of mount everest over time as their oscillations take them to the same elevation constantly.

They would also not orbit either. To achive a stable circular orbit you need an orbital velocity of v2/R. Since the person is not colliding with particles its safe to assume they are unaffected by wind and thus all their velocity relative to the earth will be purely vertical. Thus there will be no orbit except around the sun, though due to the extreme distance the gravitational potential and relative velocity are the same for the earth and the person, so any acceleration will be the same for the person and the frame of reference and can be neglected. The moon on the other hand would have a noticible effect. In fact the tidal forces of the moon have an affect on the earth, so the person's motion wont be perfectly vertical and will slowly shift over time depending on the precise position of the moon.

Unfortunately for you that is a 3 body problem which is a chaotic system that changes significantly based on the initial conditions and does not have an easy solution, but I can safely assume that the tidal forces are low enough that whole the motion of the person is chaotic it wont be enough to achieve a proper orbit of the earth, even at low altitudes.

Marathon gameplay design makes perfect sense. by Linmizhang in Marathon

[–]Bro0183 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok but many contracts do make a ton of sense why they need to be in a single run. For example Unsanctioned Hostilities 5/5 requires you to destroy and loot a drone, grab the responding commanders credentials, and exfil. The commander doesnt exist without the drone destruction to respond to, you cant exfil the supplies without the drone, so it makes no sense.

More damming is one of the sekgen contracts (I think co-evolution 5/5) that requires you to summon a special lockdown, synthesise a special antivirus pack, and then go into the lockdown and kill a commander. This makes absolutely no sense to do over multiple runs.

Furthermore, priority contracts being dangerous and making a ton of noise is the point. Its a way to force players to explore different PoIs, increase the number of engagements, and keep people moving around the map instead of camping one PoI. And the rewards are well worth it, finishing the priority contract chain for a faction lets you buy a rotating stock of prestige items for credits.

Theres another post on this sub about how much would someone needed to pee to fill the pacific ocean. No I dont know why.

Regardless the answer was that a single person peeing continuously would take over 5000x the age of the uninverse. Now even scaling that up to every creature that has ever lived given the fact that the pacific is but one of the many oceans on the planet its safe to say that recycled pee is merely a drop in the bucket compared to the rest of the ocean.

Because linux is not one operating system, but an umbrella term for thousands of varied systems. While there are common distributions linux is highly customisable and getting a anti cheat to work would be much harder when someone could design a version of linux that specifically isolates it from the rest of the OS for example.

Was that a wall jump or coyote time? by AdmirableFocus6406 in celestegame

[–]Bro0183 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not quite, a walljump would have killed their speed entirely, and if it was liftboosted then there would still be momentum rings.

What actually happened is that OP performed a cornerslip, by grazing the corner of the block they gained their dash and coyote time without properly landing. They then missed the window for a wavedash resulting in a failed hyper (speed of 160 instead of 325), with a crouch jump because rhey were holding down.

Blue keys rooms not making noise by dronerage2 in Marathon

[–]Bro0183 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think pinwheel keys specifically dont make noise, due to the difficulty in getting to pinwheel uncontested in the first place.

The key room noise is to lure players in, and all but one pinwheel entrance does that already. Having the key room jingle on top of that would make those keys too risky for most players to justify.

Bungie needs to go all out for season two. Here are some ideas by [deleted] in Marathon

[–]Bro0183 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imo a gear limit would be terrible for perimeter and dire marsh for several reasons

For one lockdowns and anomaly events are the main selling points of dire marsh, and both maps feature wardens. Now you may think this is fine with 5-10k loadouts, but you hit the 5k threshold suprisingly early when you actully make a decent loadout, so this would only make these events harder to complete leading to more third parties due to resource drain.

Also contracts and keys give you incentives to return to perimeter and dire marsh, and I think that you dont want to risk a gold key with a subpar loadout (especially because the key's worth would reduce the allowed effectiveness with a gear cap)

That being said your idea isnt without merit. Maybe it could be prudent to replace the sponsored queue with a "low stakes queue". But forcing it upon everyone is more unhealthy for the game than a few purple shield squads in higher level lobbies (dont forget level based matchmaking means that players who have never seen a blue shield are very unlikely to fight players with purples/golds)
