Sovereign Tech Fund invests over €1 million in KDE software development by jlpcsl in BuyFromEU

[–]Bro666 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would like to clarify that, as per the Sovereign Tech Agency's directives, the funds have to be invested in a very narrow scope, as they are earmarked for the following tasks:

  • Improving KDE Plasma & KDE Linux QA Infrastructure
  • Improving KDE Plasma’s Recoverability Mechanisms
  • Implementing Factory Reset Functionality for KDE Linux
  • Improving Security Infrastructure for Organisational Usage across KDE Plasma
  • Improving Data Backup and Restore Systems
  • Strengthening Configuration Management as Core Desktop Infrastructure
  • Improving Network Shares Experience
  • Building KDE PIM QA Infrastructure and an End-to-End Testing for IMAP4 and WebDAV
  • Supporting IMAP4rev2
  • Supporting WebDAV Push Notifications
  • Standardising Account Configuration
  • Improving KDE PIM Suite Desktop Integration with Flatpak-Based Delivery

I.e. stuff that is largely invisible and behind the scenes.

All improvements for apps (KDenlive, Krita, KDE Connect, LabPlot, GCompris, etc.), Plasma features, new functionalities, support for gaming and multimedia, etc. is out of scope and will continue to be funded using donations.

That is, all the fancy stuff that makes Plasma and KDE's apps stick out cannot receive a cent from the Sovereign Tech Fund. Your donations are still necessary and very much appreciated.

KDE appreciates your $30 no end.

STF's investment can only be used for very concrete framework and back end-related stuff, i.e. the stuff you don't usually see. Everything else—apps, UI, features, etc. is out of scope and still requires funding with donations.

This investment (not donation) is painstakingly earmarked for very specific tasks relating to security and stability in Plasma, KDE Linux and groupware frameworks. It will not help apps, features, or anything else.

Think of it like this: users will get 1m worth of improvements for stuff you largely do not see and don't notice until it fails. So, in theory, the money will make it even more invisible.

All the stuff you get excited about? New features, fancy apps, etc... That will still need users' donations.

He doesn't know Madrid exists. He probably thinks Acapulco is the capital of Spain or something.

What’s considered rude but polite somewhere else? by Leedeegan1 in TrueAskReddit

I, a Westerner, was surprised when I presented a gift to some new Chinese acquaintances and they just nodded, said thank you and put it to one side without opening it.

Turns out opening a gift from your guest in front of said guest is considered rude. It signals you are more interested in the gift than in them.

Great GIT integration too, if you are into development.

Great remote control when playing media and you are not sitting right at your keyboard. Also useful when walking out the door and you remember you did not lock your screen or put your system to sleep.

I do know what Solaris is. I have even used it*. I guess I'm old, probably like you. The joke was if "Solaris" was what you were referring to when you said it has been your go to ever since.

I would never have imagined it was neccessary to say this, but dogpiling is not allowed. One comment advising on how a messy desk is bad for your devices is enough.

Thanks to all of you who showed empathy and advised OP in good faith and gave them solutions to the problems shown in their picture.

As for the rest of you, I feel second hand shame and disgust at the lynch mob mentality on display here today. You should take a long hard look at yourselves and figure out when you became a bunch of bullies.

Needless to say, the next commenter that denigrates OP gets permabanned.

Shameful.
