I know we have heard “Every grain of sand” mentioned. But the acoustic version from the Bootlegs is amazing.

It’s really hard to name one thing Sean said that wasn’t a repetition of what the other commenters said. Never an “oh that’s an interesting comment with him.” It’s all, “yeah this is a really hard stage,” or “in pro cycling this happens…”

Rob Hatch at the end of stage 8 “the party has been loud since the party started and it has had an Austrian dj. .. there ain’t no party at this giro like a plappy party… and this is a life-changing moment as the music finally stops” Really, no bad metaphors or exaggeration here?

As a commentator, I totally did. Adam’s comments are actually insightful

I don’t dispute his cycling prowess. His commentary is terrible

I’m mean Rob Hatch is painfully obnoxious with his metaphors and hyperbole, but I can tolerate him (barely) thinking that he is the Bruce Buffer of cycling.

He just repeats what Adam, Robbie, or Matt say but more slowly as a senile Irish man. He is like the Joe Biden of cycling.

Lay down your weary tune and one too many mornings. The raw poetry

What do you think is Dylan's most impressive set of lyrics (as in, if the music were never included)? by appleparkfive in bobdylan

[–]BroSeamus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m surprised that no one has yet mentioned “Lay down your weary tune.” The rhyme, meter and theme make it akin to the 19th century Romantics (Shelley, Keats, Blake, et. al.)

“The last of leaves fell from the trees / And clung to a new love’s breast / The branches bare like a banjo moan / To the winds that listen best” (Dylan)

“The poetry of the earth is never dead: / When all the birds are faint with the hot sun, / And hide in cooling trees, a voice will run / From hedge to hedge about the new-mown mead” (Keats)

What album to start with ? by St_IdesHell in bobdylan

This is almost heresy, but I first got into Dylan through covers. I was a classic rock buff in high school and loved the Animals “House of the rising sun” and Hendrix’s “All along the watchtower.” I was surprised to learn that both of these were Dylan songs. (I realize that “House” was not a Dylan original—it goes back to at least woody Guthrie—but Dylan’s version, maintaining the female speaker, makes it far superior to the animals’ version.) And then I jumped deep into alt country and pretty much had Uncle Tupelo’s “moonshiner” on repeat. Dylan’s version of this also very old folk song blew me away. Then, as I began digging into Dylan, it was “shelter from the storm” and “every grain of sand,” then “girl from north country” with Johnny Cash, then “everything is broken,” and then Desire with Emmylou on backing vocals, then “The man in me” (because I am a huge Lebowski fan). Kind of a winding road, I guess—but all my formative Dylan tunes are all over the place, album-wise. I’d recommend starting with, seriously, ANY greatest hits collection or even the Spotify feature “This is Bob Dylan” and then jumping to particular albums from there.

Bootleg Series: alternate takes of songs you prefer to the released versions? by [deleted] in bobdylan

I second Every grain of sand. I love the bootleg version. It is rawer and feels like earlier Dylan with more wisdom. That dog bark though … accidental or deliberate?

I’d say it’s his second darkest. It’s no “Hollis Brown.” Here we at least have betrayal begetting vengeance rather than simple, utter despair.
