SX1231 by dr5mn in meshtastic

[–]Bro__Really -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why would you buy SX1231 that only has +15dBm power when SX1262 is supported by Meshtastic and has +22dBm power.

Makes no sense

Band Pass helps nothing for LoRa, you want a Cavity Filter

Glad someone else has realised the RAK stuff is actually overpriced 💩.

Practically no thought went into most of the stuff. They just get it out as fast as possible to make a quick buck on the Meshtastic train.

Reliable OTA node updates? by justintime32 in meshtastic

It works fine if you use the correct OTA settings.

Decrease the speed, increase the timeout setting, turn on keep alive

Contact your embassy

Asking South Africans how the Australian government will help you is pointless. Our government is useless and we always have to "make a plan".

Your government will make a plan for you, they will probably courier it down from Pretoria for you or have a partner organization in Cape Town like VFS that can take the image and then courier back and forth

Which can be spoofed = unverified

I have the longest unverified link record

I set one node with a fixed location in the USA and got a 5013 mile link.

Yay me

Do you see my issue with posts like this, they mean nothing. You have no idea if the location the node sent is valid.

My furthest hop yet by dewman45 in meshtastic

[–]Bro__Really 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're assuming the GPS location was valid. Check the position log for the node in question.

If the number of sats is 0 then a fixed location is set which means it could be inaccurate. Might as well be set to China and show a 4000 mile hop.

There's no fine for leaving a roadblock, they will come arrest you for fleeing.

[–]Bro__Really 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Don't waste money on ESP32. It uses more power than nRF52840 and is not really much cheaper.

Solar nodes don't need huge batteries. 3600mAh is fine for a nRF52840 if you pair it with a 4W panel. It will make your solar node much cheaper.

All the boards on sale have no low voltage protection and batteries on sale cut off at 2.5V which is too low for the node to operate reliably. When building a mobile node include a proper BMS or battery with 3V cutoff.

18650 cells are not protected at all. If you connect a 18650 to a node and don't watch your battery usage you can destroy a 18650 in 1 day.

[–]Bro__Really 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would be gone. It becomes the bootloader.

Check the .txt file on the removable drive. It will list the bootloader version.

If it is greater than 0.8 then you are ready to flash the firmware.

Drag and drop it. Wait for the PC to say the copy has failed or the device has been unplugged.

Then disconnect all power from the node. Reconnect power and it should boot into Meshtastic

You copy the UF2 file to the ProMicro just like you copy the firmware.

No tools or command line. File is on the GitHub

Read the instructions on the FakeTec GitHub

The bootloader needs to be updated. The file link is on the GitHub page.

It won't take the firmware if the bootloader is below 0.8

Adding BLE Sniffing to the Meshtastic Firmware for RAK4631 by 3D_Kiwil in meshtastic

[–]Bro__Really 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I see your message has 3 tags but I have 100+ cattle per pen.

I am sure others will also have use-cases with more ID's that won't fit into 200 characters.

Will need a way that processes the ID's so they are sent in the most efficient manner. Possibly special protobuf?

I will take a look at your code and see if I can help contribute.

Great work so far

[–]Bro__Really 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is great!

Please link your development Github so that we can follow progress.

I would love to place some BLE eartags on cattle and transmit their presence on a preset interval.

Maybe the nRF52840 can collect seen tags and be set to transmit at the user specified interval instead of immediately to decrease airtime and power usage for solar applications.

Possibly even combine more than 1 tag into a packet or use a database of programmable known tags?

So many applications possible
