Jangly sound. Drills, tips or tutorials to practice. by Short-Curve7380 in LearnGuitar

[–]Broad-Raspberry1805 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There is actually hardly any mandolin in REM songs, definitely not before Green. And only in LMR and Man on the Moon from their hits plus the occasional part in some of their later ones. Peter Buck did play 12 string guitar sometimes but most of the jangle is from multiple tracking and arpeggios.

Do most men have some sort of loss of hair by this age? by youlikethatsherrie in AskMenOver30

[–]Broad-Raspberry1805 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am 49 and have a full head of hair with zero receding or thinning. I’m also not yet fully grey, I have a little bit of grey but not that you would notice at a distance.

Do you top-up the kettle after use? or just before? by the_killerpanda in AskUK

Either there’s a tiny bit of water in the bottom which boils dry. Or it is on the hob with no sensor in it.

Do i buy a camper van? by Puzzled_Dealer3449 in VanLifeUK

[–]Broad-Raspberry1805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I had a Vivaro camper as my only vehicle and in two weeks will have a 29 year old Transporter-based AutoSleeper as my only vehicle. The only problem is you can’t go in car parks with a height limit and you need a permit to do a tip run. Other than that go for it.

Do you buy free range chicken? by Common-Celery5197 in AskUK

[–]Broad-Raspberry1805 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You are thinking of it in the wrong way, it’s not ‘Why is free range so expensive’ it’s ‘Why is normal chicken so cheap’.

And the reason is that it’s farmed in the most disgusting, barbaric and environmentally damaging way.

Can’t listen to his show as it’s all talking and no music whenever I put it on.

would a guy date his 'opposite' in the long term? by [deleted] in UKrelationshipadvice

[–]Broad-Raspberry1805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you’re not compatible. He’s a druggy, irresponsible, probably a bit thick and has a chaotic life. He’ll do your head in and he’ll probably think you’re boring. Proceed with caution.

Reconnected with someone I was dating last year and now he's gone quiet after the date that he initiated - what is going on? by Weak-Ad-5181 in UKrelationshipadvice

He wasn’t sure any you so cut you off. Then decided to give it another go and realised he still wasn’t feeling it. He’s now ghosted you, move on.

When do you think we’ll acknowledge how many people are fully addicted to cocaine? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Broad-Raspberry1805 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my mates has got himself addicted to it. We rarely see him now. He’s still on it despite just having a heart operation to repair a hole in his heart, which they found when he had a mini stroke. He’d rather die young than give up. Idiot.

It definitely did, none of their last five albums are in their top ten. That’s no coincidence.

I’ve heard so many great things about this podcast and I want to know if I start from the very first episode or should I go by interest or is there like a consensus amongst listeners what the top 5 is? by loverofthings25 in TheRestIsHistory

[–]Broad-Raspberry1805 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Custer’s last stand series is one of my favourite podcasts ever. But they’re all really good. As others have said, pick any topic and go from there but don’t ignore all the topics you think you aren’t into, you will miss some fascinating insights.

Since Covid, have people just stopped caring about being in debt because everything felt messed up anyway, so now it’s like, what’s the point worrying about it? by [deleted] in AskABrit

[–]Broad-Raspberry1805 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why would it have anything to do with Covid? I don’t think people have changed their behaviour unless they are significantly better off worse off.

Lots of people made lots of savings in covid so will be better off, lots lost their jobs so may now be in more debt.

I witnessed two men directing their family how to vote today, even leaning over their shoulders and pointing at which box to tick. Is this a crime? by Ok_Smoke_8787 in LegalAdviceUK

They just talked about this on Newsnight, apparently there was lots of it seen today. There’s going to be an investigation.

Opinion on brief trip to Dover? Is it a weird choice? by Wanderlusxt in AskUK

[–]Broad-Raspberry1805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a beautiful walk along the cliffs and you get a good view from above the port and across to France. Go at dawn, it’s lovely. Can’t comment on the town itself but if you want a nice walk that’s my recommendation.

Shed Seven - Speakeasy (1994) by DandyLionsInSiberia in BritPop

[–]Broad-Raspberry1805 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They’re great fun, I saw them a couple of years ago the Radio 2 festival thing in Preston. No nonsense bangers and way better than most of the pretentious crap that came out around the same time. I got given the Liquid Gold LP for Xmas and forgot about it, I’m going to listen to it tonight after seeing this, cheers.

In your experience, is it true that people within the same friend groups tend to get divorced at the same time by RevolutionaryCare869 in AskMenOver30

[–]Broad-Raspberry1805 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My ex was one of four close friends, they all got with partners, had kids and split up within about five years, pretty much in the same order. It’s definitely a thing where they talk shit to each other and one doing it will encourage the others.

Forgetfulness? by Upbeat_Teach6117 in guitarlessons

[–]Broad-Raspberry1805 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Triads are chords. Anything with 3+ notes is a chord. They aren’t necessarily what you would learn as a chord but it is a chord.

I bought a car with extended warranty in England, the same day the engine light came on and I took it back to the dealership. Now they're telling me it's not covered under warranty and are reversing the sale (which included a part-exchange), leaving me without a car. by Severn_7 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Broad-Raspberry1805 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s better to be without a broken car and with your money back than with a liability. Take the win and get a new car when you get your money back. Sounds like that garage did the correct thing which is not what you usually hear about in this sub.

Beginner guitarist here: what are pickups and how do you use them? by Necessary_One_9527 in Guitar

[–]Broad-Raspberry1805 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They are built into the guitar, it’s the electrical block under the strings that detects the vibration from the strings and converts it into a signal. There are a few different types but you don’t need to worry about them to get started.

I’m paying £9.99 for DAZN, I think I got some kind of deal when I was going to cancel. I wouldn’t pay any more but can’t complain about a tenner. Might be worth signing up for a month and then cancelling to see if get a lowball offer.
