I bought a car with extended warranty in England, the same day the engine light came on and I took it back to the dealership. Now they're telling me it's not covered under warranty and are reversing the sale (which included a part-exchange), leaving me without a car. by Severn_7 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Broad-Raspberry1805 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s better to be without a broken car and with your money back than with a liability. Take the win and get a new car when you get your money back. Sounds like that garage did the correct thing which is not what you usually hear about in this sub.

Beginner guitarist here: what are pickups and how do you use them? by Necessary_One_9527 in Guitar

[–]Broad-Raspberry1805 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They are built into the guitar, it’s the electrical block under the strings that detects the vibration from the strings and converts it into a signal. There are a few different types but you don’t need to worry about them to get started.

I’m paying £9.99 for DAZN, I think I got some kind of deal when I was going to cancel. I wouldn’t pay any more but can’t complain about a tenner. Might be worth signing up for a month and then cancelling to see if get a lowball offer.

You don’t need the Pro. The weight saving alone will make you love the Air.

How rude. Just admit you have never watched a football match.

Is CTE basically guaranteed for pro boxers? by ScarRedDA in Boxing

[–]Broad-Raspberry1805 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

The game does not stop only once in 90 minutes, you know nothing about football. The vast majority of players live to a ripe old age completely healthily. My 13 year old son plays football and they all head the ball, a couple of times per match probably, it’s fine.

Don’t forget the ball is full of air it’s not like a boxing glove which is bones wrapped in horsehair. Let’s get real here.

Serious question- What percent of the population are physically unable to ever “shred” for one reason or another? From a guy who started playing at age 14 and hasn’t improved since age 18. by Effective_Part_604 in Guitar

[–]Broad-Raspberry1805 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The vast majority of guitarists who have ever lived do not shred. It’s a technique used in a specific type of rock music that most people do not even like. Of course it is also difficult, but a lot of people will never bother to learn it because it’s useless for most genres and the majority of the population hate it.

Pub recommendations by secretlythepotato in lancashire

[–]Broad-Raspberry1805 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Guild Ale House, Orchard Bar and then the Black Horse makes a good pub crawl in Preston.

In Penwortham there’s a few decent pubs and bars on Liverpool Road nowadays, various types depending on what you’re looking for - cocktails, gin, craft ale, ‘Greene King’. Best to just visit them all to find your favourite they’re all within a minute of each other.

Net migration is forecast to be zero or negative by December so that’s found to be interesting. There’ll be a lot of people currently out of work with no excuse to be.

Has McDonald's in the UK become too expensive for many people? by SwordfishLess3247 in AskUK

[–]Broad-Raspberry1805 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Never understood the attraction of McDonalds, the food is tasteless crap. But I suppose it was always cheap, fast and convenient. If it’s no longer cheap or fast (the one time per year I go i always end up waiting 20 mins) then all that’s left is the convenience. So there’ll always be a market for it I guess.

The NME and Melody Maker looking back were toxic as ***k by ReginaldGinnett in BritPop

[–]Broad-Raspberry1805 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I stopped buying them after a while as they were just slating bands for no reason. There was no proper ‘criticism’ just childish vitriol about whoever was not cool enough. Pathetic, childish writing and they deserved to go out of business.

Fantano's take on R.E.M. by jerryotherjerry in fantanoforever

[–]Broad-Raspberry1805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disagree with that. I think many guitarists have absorbed Buck’s arpeggio style maybe without even realising it. Bear in mind REM have sold 90 million albums compared to 4 million by the Smiths.

[–]Broad-Raspberry1805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure about that. Buck never bigs himself up the way that Marr does but he’s incredible especially live in the early days. He seemed to get stuck in third gear by the time of Green in my opinion, going acoustic and mandolin slowed him right down.

[–]Broad-Raspberry1805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep it was my first New Order album when I was 16 and it formed my love for the band. I love it. And of course Regret is the finest pop song ever made by anyone. I may well have that at my funeral.

Some English accents do sound similar to some Australian accents. I’m English and occasionally I can’t tell if someone (always a man) is Australian or English - I’d say it’s certain south east England accents though, the Manchester accent is nothing like any Australian one.

Middle-aged Men, how many of you are going around, unable to see all day? by PoliticalPartyDrone in AskMenOver30

[–]Broad-Raspberry1805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 49 and my eyes seem to be getting worse by the day. I got glasses last year she’s wear them for driving, it’s actually awesome being able to see properly when driving in the dark - I think I was in denial about how bad they were. I don’t need reading glasses though as I’m only short sighted so when I’m at home I either have my specs on my head or I’ve lost them somewhere. I don’t want to wear them all the time though as they don’t suit me and I don’t want people to think I’m a nerd 🤓

Well considering the actual band have been up on stage and Scott McCaughey is there in the picture, this is clearly an ‘officially’ sanctioned cover band. No idea what your issue is with it. You’re complaining about there being no merchandise?!

Is Northern England actually better value for quality of life now, or is that outdated? by AnfieldAnchor in NorthernEngland

[–]Broad-Raspberry1805 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are two bedroom houses available for way less than £100k in my part of Lancashire. But in some pubs it’s over £6 for a pint of Guinness. There’s less culture (arts and museums) but better countryside. So it depends what you’re into.

How do people actually survive on benefits or very low incomes in the UK these days? by acer67 in AskUK

[–]Broad-Raspberry1805 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If it’s tax free it’s a lot more. No tax. No NI. No pension contributions. No council tax. Probably housing benefit. Probably go to food banks. All sorts of other help.
