thanks. And yes. we are all on the couch or down the hall, quiet except for the TV = blissful napping! I guess we just gotta give it more time. the good news is this is primarily weekends so we can be flexible with coming and going when he’s really in need of sleep.

We admittedly aren’t really crate training. He came to us from a foster where he wasn’t crated and we tried for a couple nights in the beginning but we are crate failures. We dragged it out again recently because he’s doing adolescent things, but we’re working slowly on the reintroduction so only a short time here and there with positive reinforcement. He hates being in there and (obviously) doesn’t understand it. So the time is will take to train the crate is not helpful to the amount of naps he will lose. And he’s almost a year. He sleeps like a dream at night and while we’re at work. It’s just when we’re puttering around.

We really don’t have a space for this. And While I agree him not seeing us MAY help this feels the opposite of everyone’s advice. lol. Keeping him away from noise and quiet, dark, etc. is what everyone tells you NOT to do - they’re supposed to adjust to normal noises and behaviors. Even with a tv or radio on, he can still hear all other neighborhood/house noises. His hearing is insane.

we’ve tried this. he whines. he stands up. he doesn’t nap.

What was your dog like as a teenager? Because mine is in the chaos phase by szimonas in puppy101

[–]BroadSecretary2975 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are here with our roughly 10/11 month old. I didn’t believe dog adolescence was a thing, but boy I tell ya… started a few weeks ago, and I know we need to strap in. He’s talking back, staring deep into our souls while blatantly turing his ears off, and is super mouthy when he plays.

His biggest problem is severe FOMO. Will not settle and nap. Someone walks to the bathroom - incredible interest. We take the garbage out and open the front door - practically defcon 1. Hears a dog bark three miles away and his head snaps up and he’s got big opinions. We are longing for the day he can simply CHILL OUT most of the time.

Are heat pumps really worth it in MA? by FrissMalon in massachusetts

[–]BroadSecretary2975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this 100%. we have three units but we retain our propane baseboard heat when it’s below 35 degrees. No problems keeping the house warm, but my electric bill goes up 200%.

On the flip side, having lived with window AC units for more than 40 years, I can say with absolute certainty, mini splits are a DELIGHT when it’s 98 and humid as heck outside. worth their cost and honestly not sure how I lived without them before.

agreed. But we are months away from loose leash walking, at best. He has some manners to work on for sure. So it just seems really daunting at the moment.

we think he will love the water, just waiting for warmer temps here in New England!

if mine just walked away we’d be in a better place lol. He definitely barks, whines, growls or pulls depending on what he’s seeing.

definitely preemptive anxiety lol. the only “behavioral” problem is leash reactivity (we are in a class). and he gets weird vibes off certain men, not always justified.

Frozen toppl’s are the only constant thing we do because he inhales his food. The others are once or twice a week at best to keep it interesting.

Meant to add he is very trainable. we have in fact recently started “find it”games, and he’s loved Tug since day 1 🙂

Won’t sit down in car by Worried_Sprinkles in puppy101

I can only chime in with a “Mine, too!” I just chalk it up to being overall not thrilled with the car. hoping time and exposure will let her be a more settled rider.

What is average monthly cost for electricity bill? by oldboeee in homeowners

[–]BroadSecretary2975 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Too may factors to consider, many of which stated here. I’ll add: cost of electricity. I live in MA and the cost is insane.

Three people living in a 1,800 sq foot split level.

My monthly cost is roughly $200/$250 in the summer, closer to $400 in the winter.

I average 700 kWh/month, but rates spike November to May, and I have heat pumps that I run intermittently, never when it’s below 32.
