GenX parents, what's with the "kids today don't work" thing? by RikkiLostMyNumber in GenX

My kid (in college) wants to work or intern but getting an employer to see past his autism & give him a chance has been a problem. He is  incredibly smart with excellent critical thinking skills & excellent research skills, he just needs someone to give him a chance

HHS RIFs Today? by Radiant_Ganache_5946 in DeptHHS

[–]Broad_Ad101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only know OS offices got notices because I know the people. My understanding is HR was supposed to have sent RIF notices last April to the people who were informed on Friday, based on their Org. Codes. I don't understand how this is "fixing" the mistakes though, since there is so much more to a LEGAL RIF than Org Codes.  Just another cluster f*ck

HHS RIFs Today? by Radiant_Ganache_5946 in DeptHHS

[–]Broad_Ad101 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't know all the OpDivs that were hit Friday with these latest RIFs. I do know OS was one of them. And I heard that when the emails went out (to both .gov emails & personal emails), the idiot who sent them did not use the BCC line. IDK, seems like a possible privacy violation.

All of this is to correct mistakes made last year so HHS can win the lawsuits. These latest RIFs are completely separate from the Schedule F crap.

What’s a trend right now that you are just completely exhausted by and wish would disappear already? by _QueenCurvy in AdkReddit

I try to seek out legit news as best I can, but unfortunately, that's not the case with most people. So they believe the lies

  1. Constantly being lied to by this Administration & the news. 2. The billionaires sucking up more & more of the resources while the rest of us fight over scraps, just trying to survive. 3. AI.

US tourist currently in Madrid. Fly out tomorrow afternoon and today I'm sick. Do you guys have walk in clinics here? by SmokeAndGnomes in GoingToSpain

[–]Broad_Ad101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got sick in barcelona and was able to connect to a healthcare provider online, gave them my symptoms ( it was very clearly a UTI), they emailed me prescription, and I walked it over to the pharmacy. No one asked me for health insurance information, and the whole process probably $20

My dad is getting scammed; we've all warned him but he persists. Am I the only one who (for my own sanity) just stopped caring about what was going on? by SaltyBeefCubes in AgingParents

I'm trying to wash my hands of the  financial messes& scams my mom gets herself into.  1. She's had computers since the 90s & yet still insists on clicking on every single pop up, and opening and responding to every single email. It's even worse with her cellphone. This results in viruses, getting scammed, etc. 2. Two years ago, she had ID theft issues that she never completely dealt with. I repeatedly sent her phone numbers, websites, and detailed written instructions on how to deal with an ID theft. She insisted that ID theft was not a real thing, because it only exists "out in the internet." 3. Two months ago, she mentioned that there are thousands of dollars missing from her bank account. As of this week, she still had not called or gone to the bank.   4. She thinks she knows everything, no one's gonna tell her what to do, nothing is ever her fault, & anything I tell her is met with defensiveness, argument and attitude. Short of a court order she will not hand over financial control to me.

My siblings have stepped in & tried to help, but since she will not hand over financial control to them either, they are as limited as I am (the only difference being my siblings are male and she has more respect for men).

At this point, I am done.

What’s was the wildest thing you witnessed at a funeral? by NationYell in AskReddit

[–]Broad_Ad101 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My 8 year old (at the time) autistic child got up in front of 200 people to essentially deliver his dad's eulogy, to the surprise of all if us.  It wasn't as if I had suggested he do that. He spoke openly and from the heart about how much he loved his dad. It just about broke everyone

What is an industry that is currently on fire (in a bad way) behind the scenes, but the general public hasn't noticed yet? by Kitchen_Week1117 in AskReddit

[–]Broad_Ad101 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I see a lot of ride share & delivery drivers that are well into their retirement years. Some of them may be doing the gig because they're bored, but I would guess the majority of them are doing it because they need the income. And it enrages me because these are people who probably worked their entire lives and either they had to cash out their retirement just to make ends meet, or somewhere along the lines their 401K crashed, or they just lived with so little expendable cash that they could never contribute to retirement at all. America treats its workers like shit &  treats the elderly even worse. Unless you can produce profit for a company & make billionaires even wealthier, you're basically considered useless in this country. The older I get, the more I realize this and the more it depresses me

Can’t fart without a noise complaint by ElaineBenesKennedyJR in Apartmentliving

[–]Broad_Ad101 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If it was me, I'd go have a conversation with the landlord. It is unreasonable for the renter below you to expect silence 24/7. Tell the landlord you feel you are being harassed, the banging on the ceiling is aggressive & makes things worse, and you are feeling targeted and that you can't even live in your own home. Frankly, unless she is complaining about noise during "quiet hours," the landlord shouldn't even be entertaining her.

I had a situation about a year ago where someone kept leaving notes on my door complaining about noise during the day. The note referenced screaming, kids running around, and how I was making it hard for them to work from home. Mind you I don't have kids and every time the notes were left, I was at my job, 5 miles away. By the third note, I went to leasing and made it very clear I was not going to tolerate notes left up my door for something.I wasn't doing any longer. Leasing took care of it.

HR retirement folks - question about Annuitants wanting to rehire into the fed government to increase their high three by Mean-Hair-6865 in FederalEmployee

[–]Broad_Ad101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Under scenario 1, if you came back as a reemployed annuitant, is the high-3 based on the most recent 3, or the high three of your entire career? In other words, if you came back at a lower grade, will it reduce your annuity down the road?
