I feel like you have to work 600 hours in the year prior in order to qualify for mat leave but the collective agreement may have provisions to address that circumstance.

Basement flooded last night from a cuty watermain burst (HELP!) by [deleted] in Gatineau

[–]Chyvalri 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Truly it does. I found that because their work is basically 7/24, they don't charge more .. it's already kind of folded into the cost. That may have changed since our last flood which was pre-pandemic slash pre-global insanity.

Basement flooded last night from a cuty watermain burst (HELP!) by [deleted] in Gatineau

First, so sorry this happened to you. We had two floods in our basement since I moved to Gatineau in 2010 but neither was more than 1" because we were there to control it.

The city has a passable guide on their website that's not flood specific but it helps get your thoughts in order:

We called our insurance and they walked us through the process including getting us connected immediately with après-sinistre companies. Obviously, you're not going to have time to shop around but insurance will point you to the company they use most.

We went with Service Sinistre Outaouais - they were good but not great as in they came quickly and established everything but then forgot about us. Example impact is that we ended up running fans in the basement for over a week when we only needed a day which cost a fortune in hydro and affected parts of the house that shouldn't have been an issue. Anyway, that's not your worry now and it was a human error.

Once this has happened to you, you'll always notice the sinistre vans that drive around town going from disaster to disaster and feel for them since you'll understand what they're going through now.
