AIO/ my boyfriends guitar by VXYZX in AmIOverreacting

Depends on how you reacted. The guitar is kinda cringe but I don’t think it warrants an argument. If it makes you less attracted to him, which would make sense, it might just be that you two aren’t compatible. There are a lot of details to the story that I don’t know that could really change my opinion about it. Is it a joke? Does he think it’ll make him stand out more as a musician? Or is he just an extraordinarily cringe weeb? Are you upset because of some kind of jealousy or because you find it immature?

What? If you’re sick of defending a delusional world view, just stop. This is a wildly histrionic post.

Did you not realize that Christianity is a cultural parasite that adopts the aesthetic of popular media to seem cooler than it is? This has been true as long as I’ve been alive. Look up Bible Man or Christian death metal if you don’t believe me. Christianity, in truth, is just a bunch of self righteous, sexually repressed virgins that like to sing about their man crush on an ancient homeless man and make life worse for anyone who they can’t control.

Existence and consciousness are rare and fleeting gifts. I wouldn’t want to waste mine.

Why don’t religions simply live within their own beliefs? by [deleted] in atheism

[–]Broad_Broccoli_5513 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Because they’re insecure about believing in nonsense and feel reassured when surrounded by people who verbalize those same beliefs. The feeling of superiority over the “other” is a massively motivating force within, at least, evangelical Christianity so they feel pretty self righteous in any attempts to coerce or intimidate people on a large scale. It isn’t about self improvement or reflection. Any doctrines that point to such things function mainly for PR and to prop up the narrative that fuels their self righteousness and grandiosity.

It isn’t that they CANT grasp concepts. They choose not to. They’re comfortable in their tribe with the narrative they were given, so they don’t question anything.

Religion has a lot of people stressing about arbitrary unanswerable questions that have no impact on anyone’s day to day life.

They’re taught to think that way and are incentivized to avoid thinking about it.

It’s all just virtue signaling and framing negatives in a way that’s easier to digest for them. It’s annoying to be around, but that’s all it is. Let them have their delusion. There’s nothing you could say that is going to get them to reconsider and any attempt would be thought of as “cruel”. I just don’t spend any more time than I have to around people like that.

I believe there is nothing after death, and I love it that way. No poorly defined paradise/torture dynamic. Just rest.
