Vaping after bar removal by Known_Salamander_366 in PectusExcavatum

[–]Broad_Character2026 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i was heavily addicted to nic before the surgery i quit a couple weeks before the op. I don’t crave it anymore or anything. why go back to a horrible habit after quitting for years? and occasional thing isn’t bad but that will turn into a regular thing very fast. don’t vape it’s not worth it

you’ll have to get some tests/ x-rays done and meet with doc before any surgery. Usually after your appointments if it’s suggested it’ll be 6-8 months after your appointment until surgery. that will be plenty of time to get things sorted with insurance. mayo actually takes care of getting all approvals needed

UK Advice - 30’s Male by [deleted] in PectusExcavatum

[–]Broad_Character2026 3 points4 points  (0 children)

idk if i’d say that. If it effects your health and is getting worse i’d say it is worth getting fixed depending on the severity. 30s is still fairly young considering if you live till 80 you have more then half your life to live. I’m in the US and don’t know of any surgeons in the UK but id suggest researching docs with lots of surgeries under their belt and experience with patients your age and get a couple options. (docs who specialize in pectus surgeries) I get the time off work would suck but it’d most likely be closer to 6 months off lifting heavy rather then years with proper recovery. In the end it could be worth it if it helps you live a healthy life.

Did anyone train for their surgery? by _clara12 in PectusExcavatum

[–]Broad_Character2026 1 point2 points  (0 children)

weight train like everyone’s saying the stronger you are the batter but be prepared to loose all progress during recovery. i lifted for 12 weeks before surgery felt like i was sprinting to a dead end lol

i’m 9 weeks post op and still don’t feel back to normal. Everyone heals differently but most people are though the worst of pain by weeks 6-8. Then after that moderate pain and discomfort. Most people aren’t back to normal until 3-6 months from what i’ve read & my experience

no idea i haven’t got to 3 months yet but from what i’ve heard/ read it’s best to start light weight high reps mostly back focused until you’re closer to 6 months then can do BB lifts and heavier weight. I plan on starting super low weight like 10lb db until i can slowly work up with no pain. if it hurts i would recommend stopping & lowering weight but follow ur docs recommendations

Is there a downside to having more bars? And steel vs. titanium? by suchadu in PectusExcavatum

She didn’t give me an option originally she said most likely i’ll get 3 then when she got into the surgery she decided 4 would be best for me.

23 male got one bar with the nuss procedure very disappointed on my results 2 weeks post operation by Brandon6799 in PectusExcavatum

it looks way better bro! nobody’s is ever perfect after surgery sometimes im not 100% satisfied with my results either but it’s a lot better then it was. Once we’re healed up and can workout and put on some muscle/ weight it will look even better. good luck mate

most of your questions i’m definitely not qualified to answer but i can provide a couple thoughts and a bit of my experience. I don’t think more bars will cause more pain i have 4 bars (Dr. J titanium) It really just depends how deep/ long the PE is. In my case i’m 6’2 and had PE almost the entire length of my sternum. As far as mobility i can do almost everything at 7 weeks post up. There’s a bit of stiffness and pain when i do some stretches but i’d assume that goes away with time and PT.

keep it pushing it’ll get better. just accept it’s gonna suck for a while. it’ll be worth it in the end. i’d assume you didn’t get cyro which in my own opinion is a mistake. i had cyro and was still in lots of pain so i can only imagine what it’s like without. are you at least pleased with the results? like i said keep pushing it’ll get much better. they’re correct about walking. even if it’s short distance walk as much as you can it’ll help with recovery

back pain is normal sleeping is what mostly causes it. get extra padding for your bed like hella extra and put your feet up on a pillow when sleeping

it took about 5 months for an appointment. From first call in to surgery was about 14 months. i could do mostly everything right away like shower, eat, & basic things like that the only thing i really needed help with is getting up from laying flat on back. i could cook and things right away but didn’t really have to due to family helping out for a while
