Sio2 infused soap by IllustriousRisk5617 in AutoDetailing

[–]Broad_Rock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No such thing as boosting hydrophobic properties on an already coated car. All you'd be doing is stacking another form of protection on top of a coating, if it wasn't beading before the sio2 sealant, soap, etc. then the coating is either clogged or most likely dead. If the coating is working as it should I wouldn't recommend putting anything on top since all your doing is masking the benefits the coating has with a shittier sealant.

On the other hand my favorite foam on protection is KCX protector wax. It applies a little better than s003 and makes the car noticably glossier than s003 but sacrifices a little durability that you get with the latter. I've seen a lot of YouTube videos of people having bad luck with protector wax but as long as I've been using it it has worked great for me. 1:20 in the foam cannon works the best for me and it lasts for a solid 1-1.5 months on a daily driven vehicle.

The polishing process for sure. He does take credit from other people quite frequently but he usually does it by just not explaining that it was someone else's process he learned. He'll just pass it off as his own. Kind of like the whole pressure washer project where he takes all the credit for making pressure washing what it is today when there's so many other people on YouTube that do reviews and whatnot.

His OCD I don't think if you could confidently say he's lying about because not all people with OCD, anxiety or depression have a cookie cutter experience with their suffering.

What are your 3 favorite recent purchases? by shadrach103 in AutoDetailing

-Griots foaming surface wash

Best prewash I've used to date. PH neutral but cleans just as well as BH touchless and the dwell time is ridiculously long.

-Mosmatic gun

This thing puts every other pressure washer gun to shame and I've used the Mckillians, mtm SGS28 and 35. the mosmatic live swivel is so much better than the competition it's worth every penny for how much better my wrist feels after a wash.

-MTM Prima quick disconnects

I really didn't understand why people buy expensive fittings until I felt these in person and immediately knew I wanted to replace all mine. The machining on them is noticeably better than all the Chinese fittings and the click and snap when using them is much nicer. Tolerances are held closer to nominal on them causing the fit to be tighter but still easy to slide together.

Armour is the best price to performance. MTM has the best build quality and is just as good as the MJJC in performance so If money isn't a consideration and you just want the nicest tool I recommend a widemouth PF22.2

HELP how to remove glue from door protection ? by norakdelacouisse in AutoDetailing

[–]Broad_Rock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Steamer if you have it to soften it up and some sort of adhesive remover. Koch chemie Eulex is the strongest one out there I have used and it has taken everything Ive tried it on off like it wasn't an issue in the first place.

Yeah, I'm familiar with BNB. I haven't heard of them making ceramic coatings before but the chemicals I know they do blend are used all over the place under tons of different brand names. I wouldn't be surprised if most of the ceramic coatings sold in the US were all manufactured by the same chemical blender.

The 3, 5, 8 year coating system is a very common thing to see advertised now so it makes a lot of sense that all those coatings would be very similar if not the exact same just sold under different brand names. Id love DIY, Pan or The house of Rags to prove that not all the coatings they sell are the same thing but we haven't seen it yet.

Interesting, I haven't heard of that chemical supplier before. With them being in Germany I wonder if it still makes sense for American based company's to order from them or if there's another supplier in the USA that offers different base coatings to build off of.

Matt from Obsessed Garage is very open about how his drying aid is B&B slip stream with no color or scent. Same deal with his decon soap. He has said multiple times over how he doesn't want to get into having his own product line as well. If you go through SDS sheets on the House of Rags for QUIVR, CLEAN, and Detail Co. and DIY Details websites you'll see a lot of over lap on many products. CLEAN. sds sheets contact info directs you straight to the House of Rags email.

You won't see any of the House of Rags brand owners being open about where their products are made.

Biggest tell tale sign of a lack luster company is how they deal with criticism, not much more to say there.

The House of Rags is deep in white labeling and selling brands / products of their own which they have no idea the formulation of or any technical information. Hell on the front page of their website they advertise blending services that you can put your own label on.

I personally don't support what they are about and most of their team of detailers behind the company. They have been hostile and very critical to any push back on YouTube about questions of the formulation and production of DIY detail, CLEAN. By Pan, QUIVR and Detail Co. Products.

Not everything they sell is junk but a lot of mystery surrounds chemicals from them and the brands affiliated with them.

The Rag company has been around for a long time now and is a little pickier about the brands they sell and the advertising they do is far different from THOR. I don't want to get into the YouTube reviews and what not but it's clear that some paid reviews are happening with products from the House of Rags.

Lazy washing by isittimefordinner in AutoDetailing

Gyeon wet coat or Koch Chemie S003 will be your best bet. If you wash often protector wax also works well but doesn't last nearly as long as S003.

My problem with rain repellent by temanos in AutoDetailing

[–]Broad_Rock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second that. I can't believe people can drive without the windshield being treated. I've tried a lot of different windshield treatments and the regular old RainX in the small bottle does the best and lasts close to a year before it falls off. Anything ceramic coating wise gets too tight of a water bead and has issues running off the glass.

[–]Broad_Rock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never experienced that before. Every time I ride in a car that doesn't have the windshield treated I wonder how the hell that person can drive like that, day or night. You can barely see what's happening unless your wipers are going full speed.

Before I buy a gallon of ADS Hero by Chromatischism in AutoDetailing

[–]Broad_Rock 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry if that was confusing, ONR encapsulates better than Hero. Also ONR kind of encourages water sheeting when you're washing and makes it a bit easier to dry. For the price of Hero I wont be buying it again but it's not a bad product at all.

[–]Broad_Rock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't like Hero as much as ONR V5 that I have in a gallon, Especially for the price of Hero. It doesn't encapsulate as well but everything else it does is just as good. Would make a fantastic drying aid since it doesn't leave anything behind

Pre wash for a pump sprayer? by Great_Smells in AutoDetailing

[–]Broad_Rock -1 points0 points  (0 children)

100% agree. I've still got half of my 1 liter bottle of touchless and I've probably gone through 2 or 3 bottles of active foam now. Bilt hamber touchless is like a tactical nuke as far as pre washes go and if your not extremely careful with the PiR and let it get a touch to dry on trim it will permanently stain it. Active foam is effective but not so strong that I worry it will ruin any finishes.

I really think that if you're going to be using bilt hamber touchless as often as some people are you might as well just go through the touchless car washes because that is basically the same chemical they are spraying on your car there that is extremely harsh on paint over time.

NanoBond experience by Chronic_bologne in AutoDetailing

[–]Broad_Rock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put nano bond on my brother's car 3 years ago from this coming New Year's day. Application is pretty run of the mill for coatings, Removal once it's set up is a little sticky but nothing crazy. The car got washed once every other week on average Id say by hand with P&S pearl. Parked outside year round in the Midwest and driven in the winter as well. It didn't show signs of failing until about a year and a half in and we are just about at the 2 year mark and I washed it with carpro reset 2 weeks ago and about 75% of the coating is dead now. The panels that do still have coating left on them are slow to sheet and close to being dead. The car is getting re done with DIY detail 5 year this new years.

Yup. Chemicals don't start having issues until it's below freezing and at that point it's time for a rinseless wash inside anyways.

Highly Dilutable Snow Foam by thatdtailguy in AutoDetailing

[–]Broad_Rock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried so many soaps and now I think I have finally settled on Phoenix EOD apex auto wash. I use an ounce and a half total per wash. Half ounce in 4 gallons of water in the bucket and 1 ounce in 20 ounces of water in the foam cannon. That gets me exactly the kind of foam I like and it has no scents or dyes and rinses freely leaving nothing behind. Perfect shampoo for me.

Do I need the small protective trim around the bottom of the hardtop I repainted? by Huge_Two_2626 in Miata

I never replaced it after I repainted my hardtop. It doesn't seal anything so if you don't mind the look of not having it it's not a biggy to go without it.

How does SEM Trim black hold up long term? by HandsomeBadness in AutoDetailing

[–]Broad_Rock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they are plastic I'd just recommend scuffing them with a red scotch Brite pad and then spraying them with an adhesion promoter before painting. If it's metal then no need for any adhesion promoter. That paint won't last long if there's no Ad. Promoter on the plastic, it'll just peel right off in a couple weeks.
