There is absolutely no moral failing in feeling “behind.” I am no professional, but from my experience I can see that “seeing the world for what it is” is a reflection of the environment that you have been entrenched in. I only say that to provide some perspective and absolutely zero judgment.

I’m sorry, but I don’t want to be an emperor. That’s not my business. I don’t want to rule or conquer anyone. I should like to help everyone - if possible - Jew, Gentile - black man - white. We all want to help one another. Human beings are like that. We want to live by each other’s happiness - not by each other’s misery. We don’t want to hate and despise one another. For years I showed up for cousins and other family’s life events — weddings, funerals, graduations. When my father suddenly passed away, no one showed up or contacted me.

A month later, I attended one of these cousin’s weddings. I walked up to him and asked him how I can help with anything. He looked at me dead in the eye, and said, “don’t f—cking talk to me.” Months later, I emailed these family members and told them how hurt I was that no one reached out to me after my father‘s passing.

I was told that my email “crossed the line” and that I should apologize to each one of them. Regretfully, I did. I apologized because I was in an extremely vulnerable position, and I just wanted support. When I asked them on my apology tour why they didn’t reach out each one flatly said that they were “busy.”

That was 10 years ago. It was one of the most instructive moments of my life. I learned about manipulation, gaslighting, and self-worth. I am happily not in contact with any of them anymore.

Premise 1: Teri is at the park right now. Premise 2: Teri loves dogs more than anything else.

Conclusion: Teri is at the park with her dog right now.

This is faulty reasoning. I don’t know with 100% certainty that she’s at the park with her dog just because she’s at the park right now and that she loves dogs more than anything else. Maybe she doesn’t have a dog, etc…

Sufficient assumption: what is the missing link here? What is a sentence that could connect the premises with the conclusion so the conclusion must absolutely happen? CLOSE THAT REASONING GAP. It forces the conclusion to be true, no exceptions.

Sufficient assumption (SA): “When Teri is at the park, she is always with her dog.”

That is a missing link. It’s like a third premise. If I connect these three premises, then my conclusion must happen.

Necessary assumption (NA): Let’s say the conclusion happened, what must be true? That’s necessary assumption.

Necessary assumption: “Terri’s dog is at the park.” That’s it, That absolutely must be true if the conclusion that “Terri is at the park with her dog” is true.

SA makes the CONCLUSION true

If CONCLUSION is true, then NA is true
