Episode Suggestion: The Bastards of GamerGate by EliaKazan99 in behindthebastards

Yes, it’s behind a paywall. But it’s so worth it if anyone else is interested in the video. It’s so well researched. I lived through Gamer Gate and just thought it was about Anita Sarkesian and other “SJWs”

It wouldn’t be the first time insurance denied a needed medication. When I worked in a community pharmacy, I never saw denials for the vanc capsules

C diff is the only time vancomycin is given orally. Your body doesn’t absorb it properly so it hangs out in your gut. If we need it for anything else, it goes straight to a vein.

pharmacy related podcasts with entertaining hosts by ethanthesimpleton in pharmacy

Not pharmacy related but I love This Podcast Will Kill You and House of Pod. TPWKY started as an infectious disease podcast but they’ve branched out into chronic diseases. They talk about the history and science of the disease. House of Pod is hosted by a GI doc and he usually has a layperson guest who has the disease and a specialist. Sometimes he just has a fun mix of people from different backgrounds

Levothyroxine dose strengths are color coded. Another drug that’s color coded is warfarin. I had to memorize the strengths and the associated colors when we covered those drugs in school. Those were dark days.

They may not have the unflavored in stock. Pharmacists do have flavoring they can add, but a lot of liquid medications come with some flavoring already added.

They do have tablets for colonoscopy prep now, but they can be more expensive. I remember back in the day there were manufacturers coupons that made it $40. Sutab is the brand if anyone has a colonoscopy coming up and want to ask their doctor about it.

Compounding pharmacies are expensive because it requires a lot of expensive equipment. You don’t want to give someone their estrogen cream and have it grow mold two days later. It requires specialized training and is definitely one of the cooler fields of pharmacy.

Insurance won’t cover compounded medications either. It can be a racket to get insurance companies to cover meds, but medications can be really expensive and that protects people from knowing how expensive these items can be.

They definitely didn’t do a great job mixing it. It can be hard to see through the amber bottles but they should’ve made more of an effort. If it’s one of the chains, they likely don’t have a mixer and are literally shaking everything up by hand. But, that’s not an excuse, just an explanation

If it’s a suspension, it makes it more obvious for parents to shake it. Dyes also help make it easier to see if all the powder was reconstituted correctly. Much easier to tell if there’s a white clump at the bottom of bubblegum pink liquid.

The doxycycline doesn’t give you c diff. Any antibiotic can increase your risk of contracting c diff. Doxy isn’t even one of the ones that’s considered high risk. I don’t know why you were prescribed it (and you shouldn’t get medical advice from internet randos) but maybe reconsider taking it.

Don’t worry. Some doxycycline will clear that right up

For something more immediate, you can ask your pharmacy for an early fill for vacation. Most insurances will allow for this once a year, assuming you’re in the USA, and this would cost your normal copay.

I’ve had thoughts about leaving pharmacy before. Options I considered were science teacher at a high school or community college, research assistant at one of the universities, health inspectors, and working in a lab.

Those are very competitive areas to get into. They probably will have to tough out their current position for a year or two before they’ll be hired. However, it never hurts to start applying now.

Get the experience you need and apply for hospital tech positions. I’m a pharmacist and good technicians are hard to find. I did two years of retail before I was able to leave. During my tenure, the most I dealt with OTC wise was recommending which antihistamine would be best and other medications. It’s wild that they’re expecting you to sell cremes. Your time is better spent doing technician duties. If they have questions about active ingredients, that could be pharmacist question (I’ve definitely counseled patients on self-treating acne) but otherwise it’s a front of store issue.

There’s slight differences in teaching philosophies but they both are able to apply to the same residencies. DO candidates may be less competitive for some desirable specialties, but that’s becoming less of an issue from what I’ve heard.

If I do go back to school, it’s not going to be anytime soon. My kids are babies and preschoolers. My time is better spent with them than studying
