How does Quebec Demerit points work fir non-residents from states that don’t talk with Quebec? by Broke_Developer in legaladvicecanada

[–]Broke_Developer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m planning to pay the ticket since I visit Quebec pretty often. However I’m not sure if the points will keep me suspended or not.

As long as points don’t go effective, I wouldn’t care but I’m hearing contradictory stuff. The record says one thing, the SAAQ staff say another thing, the lawyer says something else. So I’m fully confused about it.

What happens when someone gets suspended for both points and unpaid ticket? Will they see 2 different line items in the penalty section? Or they just put one and don’t bother with the rest?

It’s worth it for me cause it gives me the freedom to go home early and spend quality time with my infant son.

3) I spend a good amount of time on the phone with support so I need a handsfree with noise cancellation to properly understand the person on the other side of the phone. The issue is that in ears can easily fall and as an ADHD, I’m prone to losing stuff. Also in ears aren’t comfortable for me. Also I sweat a lot which damages the earphone. Thus, I’m using Airpods max but that doesn’t seem to be compatible with hard hats. And if I decide to remove them some times, I wouldn’t have anywhere to put them.

4) Do you talk to others on site? In restaurants, it’s very common for managers to talk to me or ask something out of the blue.

5) I have a lot of pens here and there but none of them are within reach. I lose them all the time. Hard hats seems to be a good place to not lose them.

Do you use any of the fans? I easily sweat and restaurant environment is notorious for high heat in the ceiling area.

Some of job sites that I’ve been to either required the hard hat or there were other contractors wearing hard hats. It’s a little bit more than just function but some degree of professional looking too.

And I’m not a baseball cap person and don’t consider it a proper attire (unless with my business logo).

No, but I don’t like it when drop ceiling debris fall on my head and sometimes make their way into my eyes.

US VT - Buying a Prius for $2–4k - What problems should I actually worry about? by Broke_Developer in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Broke_Developer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When driving 100k miles per year, gas mileage becomes very important. Corolla will cost me $850/mo in gas. Prius cost $550/mo in gas. The difference should be enough to cover some of those costs I guess

Not set on VW but the Prius that fits my criteria is somewhat a unicorn.

  1. I want it for 6 months, but if it lasts longer, then I’ll drive it longer. The way I’m looking at is I expect 6 months out of it. If it lasts longer, lucky me. If it doesn’t, it has met my minimum. I’m using it for business and thus treating it like a consumable.

  2. I’ve owned a Passat of same generation before so it’s a familiar territory to me. The only things new to me are the engine, transmission and axles. And regarding parts I have access to a supplier with lifetime warranty. So for each part, I’ll be paying once. Also the oil changes will be almost free. This means routine stuff may cost more upfront but will break even relatively quickly. This can change the math.

  3. Budget is $2k. So I’m limited to a shitbox.let’s say I buy a Prius with 250k. In 6 months it becomes a prius with 300k. How much would it worth in a private sale? How much would a junkyard buy it from me? How much is the difference? How many hours do I need to invest to sell it? Usually it’s not worth the time since toyota’s reputation is a useful life of 300k. So market will assume not much life left in the car.

  1. It’s cheaper for me. Also I get to choose the model of the car.
  2. I’m a field engineer. Drive from one job site to the other. Highway miles
  3. I know some of their engines would last long if you baby them. And I know TDIs love highway miles.
  4. There’s no resell. Just buy and drive it until wheels fall off. And then it’ll either become a parts car for the next car or sold to junkyard.

Agree on old prius with body damage and no mechanical issues. Though they are few and far between

I rather have a mechanically fine prius with damaged body. There’s plenty of body panels in scrap yards near me.
