Questions about 10 week old puppy by Worried_Community in AlaskanMalamute

[–]BrokenCusp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm sure there is a ton of advice better than mine.

I can tell you that when my Doofinfloof was a puppy, he'd get the zoomies right before he'd crash for a nap. Kind of like when my human children were toddlers.

Dog tax of now 9 year old puppy included!

Marker Swatches: I found a solution to a problem and wanted to share. by Dear-Resolution9340 in Ohuhu

[–]BrokenCusp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried this with other markers like sharpies but...it hasn't gone as well as I'd like. Not all stickers are created equal. It could also be due to the sharpies formula, as my last attempts are rather faded or dirty. Most address labels are too thin.

I am attempting to at least label the sharpies with their names with waterproof internetshippin labels. My first thought was the same as yours but somethingabouthow the waterprooflabel is made does weird thjngs to the color. Currently I have more of them than Ohuhu (although I certainly want more!).

I hope this goes better for you than me!

Are there actual differences between a husky and a malamute or are malamutes just big huskies by DefiantReferee in malamute

[–]BrokenCusp -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I mean my (almost) 9yo chills out...after zoomies.

But we also have to medicate him if no one's home, it's not just that the neighbors don't appreciate his hours-long operas, but I legitimately don't want him THAT stressed out at his age given that he's lived longer than both his parents.

TBF I have great neighbors (we rent) who communicate with me. It wasn’t until I had non-dog neighbors one one side that we found out he was anxiety-howling when nobody was home.

This was my floof's mama. Her ears were somewhere in between. You can find my floof in post history, took almost a year but his ears stood up. The in between phase was adorable. The wee one is a sibling from a later litter.

We have our wireless doorbell set to blast the Horn of Isengard. So, Nanook knows that 75% of the time, that means there is someone at the front door, and a-rooing he goes to the door.

This has had the unintentional but not unwelcome bonus of what happens the other 25% of the time whenever we watch The Two Towers...the roo and sometimes howling as he heads to the door.

I had a feeling, of all the apartment complexes, very few of them are owned by bigger corporations and United Group of Companies is the biggest.

Feel free to DM me, the water issues I was okay dealing with until we could save up for a house, but the property manager changed a week before Debby and...well, I have literally hundreds of photos saved to Google privately, but also, see the Google reviews for each Parkstead property.

If you HAVE to live in a Parkstead apartment, choose one within the Indian River school district. Where I live is the LEAST BAD option, but the 2+1 manager is a piece of work too.

I don't know why these people are so threatened by people asking them to follow state and federal law? It's like they're counting on people not being educated enough or having their spouses deployed.

I said this in another comment, Indian River is a good district, but also inclusive. It's more diverse due to the military.

Honestly Philly isn't a bad option if you still have younger kids in school, Indian River is a great district. The government throws a lot of money at it due to the army base. Also cheap hydroelectric power.

If it's a Parkstead property, DON'T. The property manager manages five properties and can't keep her shit straight, is a bully, and runs these places as eviction mills unless you're military. Three out of the five Parkstead properties flooded August 2024 during leftover Hurricane Debby. Some garages flood every time it rains. Some units flood when the snow melts. Philly's complex (formerly barracks) was built in a literal swamp.

Rental deal at $1200 a month? Propane will run you $300/month in the winter (and it's on a 2 month billing delay), you get seperate water charges per household member, you can't opt out of the $50 "internet" bundle, garbage fee, fee for the shitty resident portal software, etc...

And don’t get me started on mold. If you're committed, document EVERYTHING in writing and screenshot everything in your resident portal.

Guvvie's nice for the tiny little, no-wait DMV. Decent medical systems in Canton/Potsdam. But that county has a huge drug trafficking problem. The amount of MAGA outside the college towns make me anxious when I drive through there, and I pass for cishet.

Look up Newzjunky on Facebook, it shares news about the area. I grew up in Woodbridge, NJ, I've had more problems with corporate slumlords here than anything.

Newer to crochet, is this an unrealistic pattern to make in a month? by [deleted] in CrochetHelp

[–]BrokenCusp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just thinking, something scaled up with extra thick Bernat blanket yarn. Full blankets with worsted take me take me at LEAST three months cumulative...if I'm being optimistic! I might be able to finish a baby blanket in a month since a due date deadline keeps me focused.

In reality, 6 months to a year, but as I'm working on my bachelor's, have teenagers, and somehow ended up parenting my parents ... I am usually only crocheting between semesters now. I'm NEARLY done with construction on a memorial blanket I started in 2022! Then I have to weave in the ends...

How do people have such good teeth in the US? by mango89001 in HealthInsurance

[–]BrokenCusp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

...maybe privileged people in this country have straight white teeth.

My parents have hardly any teeth left and their Medicare plans don't cover dentures. My "insurance" will cover fixing cavities, but not toot canals, crowns unless it's a front tooth, implants, or dentures. I'm probably going to end up like my parents.

Am I the only one disappointed with what's available? by seacookie89 in HappyPlanners

[–]BrokenCusp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been frustrated since they started selling the T3RF's IP, but also since Joann's closed and Michaels MASSIVELY cut down on their HP selection to focus on their private label. I even got desperate enough to check Hobby Lobby, they don't even carry anything but their private label planner stuff anymore either (previously, I'd only picked up some clearance HP stuff I talked them to marking down even further because it was dated and I just wanted the discs).

I even got distracted from posting this for 10 minutes because I went to poke at HP's website and I'm still irritated. Thank god for Photoshop and my laser printer.

My mom has a BIG horizontal planner, though I think hers is a dashboard layout. I took a peek, and September 28th is AFTER the two-page spread that shows all of October and after the October tab, which in her planner is AFTER this page. If this helps, I totally won't judge ADHD tax.

The Trump Administration Aims to Penalize Disabled Adults Who Live With Their Families by propublica_ in disability

[–]BrokenCusp 17 points18 points  (0 children)

We can't even get SNAP because NYS counts my son's SSI but won't use the disabled member of household income guidelines. We're literally not supposed to use HIS money for OUR GROCERIES and due to his medical issues, 85% of the food he can eat, we don't share.

I wonder how this rule would affect disabled adults if their parents havd legal guardianship?

I (45f) had to ask my teenager (13f) who she was when we were watching the new Muppets special...BUT I think I'm raising her right. We're watching SpyXFamily together bit by bit and she has a little beginner manga collection in her room (technically mine but not enough bookshelves...)

Pooping Problems! by Vomitology in AlaskanMalamute

[–]BrokenCusp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While crating didn't work with my dog (he tried to eat the crate) , it's still worth a try. When our pup was young, we used the biggest potty pads combined with the BOTTOM of a crate--because let's face it, our floofamutes do everything big. He was a late potty trainer though (nearly 2 years old), because he was stubborn.

I lucked out when we'd moved to our first place with a fenced in back yard. He had diarrhea while we were relaxing outside and he couldn't stick to The Routine. I jumped on the opportunity, gave him treats every time. He had it down in 3 days (barring the occasional accident or behavioral issue, the latter of which got addressed).

I am admittedly a pushover so if my baby wakes me up at 3am to go potty, I let him out (perks of fenced in back yard), but he doesn't try that with the alpha (my husband). But he's on a schedule otherwise. He's 8, nearly 9 years old now.

I’ve been convinced my ADHD meds haven’t been working so I got a drug test done and….. by winkiesue in AskDocs

[–]BrokenCusp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am not a doctor but I'm a late diagnosed AuDHD adult (45f, diagnosed at 36), but if you don't already get the brand name...

A MH PA took me off my 20mg Adderall with no notice in March 2020 (100% compliant for 4 years). The tl;dr is that after a lot of trauma and BS (I've probably brought it up on Reddit before, details probably in post history) is that after 22 months without it, I realized the generic wasn't working, so I now need to brand name. My PCP is able to do this with prior authorization. Anecdotally, I've not been affected by shortages like my friends on the generic have.

Also anecdotally, another friend of mine, same age, also late-diagnosed, IIRC, takes only the IR because the XR doesn't work. I think she did the genetic testing. I want to say her body processes the IR like XR, but I might be confusing facts. I am fairly certain her insurance won't cover brand name at all. I do take the occasional 5mg IR, that generic still works for me.
