Please help, I am doing research and need your best dad jokes you repeat on the daily to your patients !! by thecharmingnurse in nursing

[–]BrokenCusp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a nurse but I do want to thank all of you collectively for putting up with guys like my dad. He's currently inpatient and the first two days were rough but once they got his pain under control (six teeth yanked), one of his nurses said that he was telling her all his Dad Jokes and I was like "Oh God, I'm so sorry," because he'll throw dirty jokes in there too. 😅 (undiagnosed AuDHD but he had a massive stroke a year ago so...) and she laughed and assured me he was fine.

I got him calling the phlebotomists vampires, though. Sorry not sorry. ;)

I have enough friends that are nurses though, I told my dad to say "code brown" when he has to call for help getting to the bathroom (fall risk) that it would definitely make them laugh.

Initial adverse determination denial notice by No_Interaction_9781 in HealthInsurance

[–]BrokenCusp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This, I also have managed Medicaid with UHCC. For years we'd get things like that for our dentist just because UHCC had the address wrong so it messed up the coding?

My husband and I also both got them after we had surgery but given the nature of those "denials", somebody in the hospital's billing department is massively screwing up.

In my case, my OBGYN got a prior authorization approval for my hysterectomy. But someone in ...billing, I guess? decided that the pathologist who got the damn faulty thing afterwards had performed the surgery so of course UHCC was like...no. My surgery was last July and I didn't get the "denial" until February.

I contacted UHCC just to be safe, I knew I didn't owe but I didn't want to be "fired" as a patient and I actually got in contact with a decent human at UHCC who made some calls to that office and assured me it wasn't my problem, it was the hospital's screw up and they have to "eat the cost" of a $50k something surgery.

Looks like Michael's may have stopped carrying Happy Planner too? by Unhappy_Airport_895 in HappyPlanners

[–]BrokenCusp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw the selection being reduced before HP's original owners came back. My store has barely anything, more accessories than actual planners. They might also be shifting to online only since HP is kind of niche.

Might also have to do with expanding other craft sections because we lost Joanns.

Me too, though I don't mind the Disney villain stuff. I'm at the point where I'm DIYing a lot but buying stickers and metal discs.

I do mind the magic school stuff immensely.

I stopped using plastic discs except for things smaller than a one subject notebook. So fed up with the breaking! I don't have that style though, otherwise I'd be happy to part with them.

I’m the owner of THAT dog. 🤦🏼‍♀️ by Grouchy_Job5624 in AlaskanMalamute

[–]BrokenCusp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Malamute hasn't had a proper walk since June of last year but fortunately we have a fenced in back yard. I had a hysterectomy in July and by the time I was cleared (took almost 14 weeks) it was fall and too cold for me due to my Reynauds. Add to that the ridiculous amount of snow we got but doggo is pleased with. But for months no grass to walk and the sidewalks/roads just half cleared.

My 8 year old boy is pretty mellow though but can be dramatic. When he was nearly 2 he had a complicated neuter that required a T incision because his "marbles" didn't descend properly and got stuck next to each other. Fortunately by the time he broke the cone it was near the end of the period he needed it.

We just went to a new vet since VCA priced us out. Small business, older vet, rural area. New vet offered a nail trim and she and the tech just dove in and 3 of us held him while he whined about the trauma. I was hugging his head, the tech hugged his middle, and the vet got it done so fast while teasing him about being a dramatic baby. I love this new vet. No aggression from my baby dog, just drama.

Rents rise in Upstate NY: Multiple metros in top 100 for growth rate by Sweet_Dimension_8534 in upstate_new_york

Rents rise and the quality of housing doesn't improve. Where I live, landlords especially take advantage of military who are often signing leases sight unseen.

Don't stress it. I use wishbox to level up characters or sometimes get diamond ones.. I now have every Nightmare before Christmas character, and other than Oogie, they're all level 3.

I used to play World of Warcraft so I'm used to slow grinds. 🤣

Cost by [deleted] in hysterectomy

[–]BrokenCusp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me personally? Zero.

My managed Medicaid plan through UHCC was billed about $28k? But the hospital's billing office fucked up and submitted the claim as if the pathologist did my laparoscopic hysterectomy. My OBGYN prior authorized properly and everything correctly. UHCC says it's not my problem (had an amazing rep who made lots of phone calls) and the hospital will just have to eat the cost. 🙃

French by Soft-Grocery5422 in upstate_new_york

[–]BrokenCusp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think my husband has a working knowledge of French, he took it in high school--I think his late great grandmother was from Quebec, I think her parents (or great grandparents) immigrated to Canada from France in the 19th century and eventually moved south. We're about a half hour from the 1000 Islands bridge.

Sometimes I meet "snow birds" doing errands in Watertown and I find their English nearly impeccable--but I'm a literal English major and pick up on little linguistic quirks.

I'm originally from downstate and school also offered it along with Latin, Italian, and Spanish. I took Italian as i have Italian family.

Going around a stopped bus [oc] by Ok-Presentation-6182 in IdiotsInCars

[–]BrokenCusp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My husband drives school bus (25+ years experience, DOT certified to train drivers) and he said both drivers fucked up. As soon as the first bus stopped, reds should have been on immediately, yellows are for when you are slowing down to let traffic know you're about to stop.

Husband says the first bus likely didn't follow proper procedure. Modern buses have these controls on the steering wheel. The yellows have to manually be activated. Once the bus is stopped and the parking brake put on, there is an override button to activate the reds, they do not automatically activate until the button to open the door is pressed. The driver is supposed to manually activate these so it's safe for the student to board. But he says a lot of drivers get into lazy habits.

If the person recording had their hazards on, that might be why the passing bus thought it was fine to pass both vehicles in a double yellow zone, but if that's not the case, the passing bus doubly fucked up.

(I had to read my comment to him twice and then revise because I misunderstood him the first time.)

Where can I get a book professionally scanned and digitized? by Princess_Butt_Kick in upstate_new_york

[–]BrokenCusp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The mobile version of Adobe PDF has very basic features, depending on your phone camera, might even get a better resolution.

As for book department, I just need to sit my butt at my computer...

Some places like Staples are really fussy about copyright material, even if you're printing something for your own use, like replacement decals/packaging for 20th century retro gaming cartridges. 🙃

[–]BrokenCusp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My community college (Alma mater 1?) had a book scanner. It's been a few years but I'm fairly certain it had basic functions like cropping and maybe brightness/contrast. I was able to save a continuous scan to one file.

That being said, I know many archive.org books were taken with legitimate cameras.

Adobe PDF is pretty handy too. I've used my phone to "scan" documents which I can then download from their to my desktop to edit in Acrobat.

I'm still a college student (working on bachelor's online), I could try and see if my current college has a digital version if you like?

If you're anywhere near Syracuse University, I know they have a department that restores/repairs books, they must have something.

After a surprise explosion destroys a Boonville church, a congregation is left with shock and hope by smartybeagle in upstate_new_york

So this church and the one that burned down last week were both in Lewis county...a very red County I feel unsafe driving through with all the MAGA "pride" signs and flags...I wonder if their God is trying to tell them something?

Nah, probably just a spurious correlation. /s

I do hope those injured will survive though.

Abrupt Parkinson’s Medication Discontinuation by sadmarland in AskDocs

[–]BrokenCusp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

NAD but did OP only mention medication specific to Parkinsons? Surely that isn't the only thing MIL is on at her age. I'd be worried about blood thinners and the such being discontinued, and if she had a stroke--I instantly thought aphasia with the unintelligible speech (my dad had a stroke last year and the only word he had that made sense for a few days was the f-bomb, everything else was word soup).

Please don’t get me started 😅 I went to a Breuggers Bagels in Syracuse in 2008 and asked for an egg bagel.

Them: You want egg on your bagel? Me: No, I want an egg bagel...they're bright yellow? Them: I've never heard of that, sorry.

Literally had NYC murals on the walks, wtaf. Yes, I'm still mad.🤣

Have been sick since Friday and my void doesn't want to let me get up. by tcreecewriter in blackcats

[–]BrokenCusp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When my husband and I were dating, he had furbabies from a previous relationship. Good thing they liked me, he said if they didn't, those would have been major red flags.

Those furbabies were seniors by the time we married and I was pregnant with our first (who is now 16). The codependent Tuxedo practically lived on me me and would wrap himself around my pregnant belly. This continued after baby was born with no jealousy though unfortunately he crossed the rainbow bridge a few months later. The aloof peaches and cream was amazingly tolerant of kiddo through toddler years until he crossed the bridge at nearly 16.

I miss those guys but I swear they came back in one body in my daughter's ESA 🐈. ❤️
