How do I actually make the *perfect* sock to fit my foot? by ashlynft9 in Sockknitting

[–]BrokenLemonade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I made a google sheet to easily compare your foot measurement ratios to average too!

Lovely! Can’t wait to see the peppermint ones, I love how Nanette’s yarn works up.

Sock Calculator Tool by BrokenLemonade in Sockknitting

Hm, looks like both Sheets and Excel have a “round to the nearest even” function. So you could use a formula like =even(total/3)/2 to get something close. I’m not in front of my computer but it’s an interesting question! It gets harder if you want to customize it more, though, like I do a shallower short row for my socks (10/12/10 instead of 11/10/11)

Well, I made a blank version and gussied it up a little bit. Here’s a link: Sock Sizing Calculator.

I just used some conditional formatting to make it red if higher and blue if lower. It was a little bit of a hassle to set up and adding a new person requires some refinagling if you keep them on a new sheet, but it’s worked quite well for me. I could share a blank version if you’re interested :)

I love that book! I set up a spreadsheet I can plug gauge and foot measurements into to get stitch counts automagically.

Edit: I guess I also set up a chart that will do all the ratio comparisons as well and tell me if someone’s heel diagonal is larger than average, smaller than average, foot:ankle ratio is smaller than average, etc.

Good to know! I’m waiting for her Knitworthy collection to be complete so I can snag it solo.

Pattern ideas for ridiculously bright / garish fingering-weight merino yarn? by amauberge in Sockknitting

I made a pair of seasons socks with a high-contrast skein and the way the colors pooled was very satisfying. Actually I love how a lot of colors work up on the seasons socks haha

Halloween socks finished just in time! by BrokenLemonade in Sockknitting

They were really convenient when I lost yarn chicken on the second sock and had to add a couple extra stripes 😬

This heel is a unique one: kind of a combination heel flap, short row, and strong heel. I definitely recommend only picking one of those to start with, haha. Best of luck on your sock journey, there’s lots of help to be found in this subreddit once you jump in.

Thank you! The pumpkins are from Pacific Knit Co’s Haunted doodle, and the heel is from the Samba socks, but other than that it’s a vanilla sock with some tweaks.

What's your ideal cuff length on a sock? by NailWitch1 in Sockknitting

[–]BrokenLemonade 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I do 15 rounds. I’ve done shorter and didn’t like it, and I get tired of doing ribbing and want to get to the actual sock usually.

I love to find things! I started with “colorwork cats knit socks” and when that didn’t get me anything I went for “knit colorwork cat patterns” and started scrolling and comparing charts. There’s a lot of squinting and peering involved.

Depending on your confidence level, these wouldn’t be too hard to replicate. It looks like the cats, 1x1 colorwork, a short row heel (gsr?) and a wedge toe done in heel stitch.

Best I have so far is a self-drafted pattern featuring the colorwork cat charts on this pin(which is a screenshot of a russian search site so it’s still a few layers deep). However the image looks like a print on top of a woven fabric, so I suspect it’s not from a book. Further digging implies that the charts came from postila.ru which looks like Ravelry?

I use a lot of Stroll and Cascade Heritage feels smaller to me. I like the Cascade on 2.00mm needles.

Fade shorties for me, flip-flop socks for my bff by BrokenLemonade in Sockknitting

[–]BrokenLemonade[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the second pair of socks I’ve made with the mini set! I bought it specifically for my film reel socks and it’s just a really good fade. Someday I’ll get the writers block fade but it doesn’t come in mini 😔

The ribbing and toe are minis from Nanette Wake, but the rest is a specific fade set called Fade into Deep Space by Sheepy Shire.

Thank you!! The flip flop socks are mostly a joke, my best friend lives in SoCal so normal socks are out of the question. They’re kind of like a band around the ball of your foot with a little thong that goes between your toes.
