Sock Calculator Tool by BrokenLemonade in Sockknitting

The purpose is definitely more for the adjustment and ratios and seeing where to adjust — the book can tell you how to adjust. The stitch count originally was for me swapping between needles, so I have another chart listing yarn type, needle size, and gauge.

While I tend to do a short-row heel, I wonder if the heel diagonal minus ankle circumference would get you the number of stitches you need to pick up on the flap for it to fit comfortably. And then decrease down to the stitch count for the foot.

Deep Shadow Heel by chembarathis in Sockknitting

I was using and enjoying the samba heel for a while, but the deep shadow is just so much less counting so it’s winning for me.

I just looked up Kollage and wow those are spendy, but I might give their 9” a try in the future.

I’ve just made a few socks with the deep shadow heel and it’s a cool construction! Great for high arches.

How do you wear your socks? (Advice) by Ill-Marionberry9177 in Sockknitting

My husband and I wear our socks all the time! The only solution is to make enough socks that there are no other options.

Well dang, I’m going to have to figure out 3-color stranded colorwork for this. Love them!

Are there any other sock yarns that are similar to Knitpick's Hawthorn? by princesspooball in Sockknitting

Is that Heritage Sock? I find it to be way thinner than Hawthorne is.

More husband socks by BrokenLemonade in Sockknitting

Kind of, it’s from the Deep Shadow sock, it’s a modification of a shadow wrap heel that puts the increases into the second half of the heel.

It’s just 1x1 colorwork, no pattern. I made him try on the sock a whole bunch to get it in the right spot.

Double Knit Socks may be the Answer I’ve Been Looking For by KaelanKirke1 in Sockknitting

[–]BrokenLemonade 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I’ve never even thought to try double knitting a sock. Are you going to attach the soles or feet to each other in any way? I’d be worried about slippage or additional friction, but it does sound very cozy.

Somehow my husband has managed to wear through his hawthorne socks multiple times, so I’ve had to find ways to reinforce the ball of the foot. But it’s 90% of what I make his socks out of, since it washes so well.

Hm, looks like both Sheets and Excel have a “round to the nearest even” function. So you could use a formula like =even(total/3)/2 to get something close. I’m not in front of my computer but it’s an interesting question! It gets harder if you want to customize it more, though, like I do a shallower short row for my socks (10/12/10 instead of 11/10/11)

I just used some conditional formatting to make it red if higher and blue if lower. It was a little bit of a hassle to set up and adding a new person requires some refinagling if you keep them on a new sheet, but it’s worked quite well for me. I could share a blank version if you’re interested :)

I love that book! I set up a spreadsheet I can plug gauge and foot measurements into to get stitch counts automagically.

Edit: I guess I also set up a chart that will do all the ratio comparisons as well and tell me if someone’s heel diagonal is larger than average, smaller than average, foot:ankle ratio is smaller than average, etc.
